I took lessons here for a couple of years. After several months it became evident the owner did…read morenot care for his horses or the horses that boarded at the facility. Horses' waters and troughs were often filthy, or the water just about nonexistant. During the winter the horses' water froze. The farm hand broke the ice a few times, but eventually there was no water in the troughs. When informed of the no water situation the owner said that it was the farm hand's job to check and fill the waters. They showed no concern. The paddocks are not picked so the manure builds and builds. The feed is tossed onto the filthy paddocks. There is no fly control in the summer. Because the manure is nor removed from the paddocks there a swarms of flies. Some of the horses are allergic to the fly bites, and their bellies become inflammed to the point of bleeding. And, you guessed it, the owner dles nothing to ease the inflammation. The owner is so disagreeable that all his instructors quit. If something goes wrong or a boarded horse owner points out a lack of care he blames anyone but himself. Here is an example. A boarded horse shelter cover blew away. The facility owner did not replace it. The boarded horse owner eventually bought a tarp to cover the shelter so that the horse had sun and rain protection. This owner also picked their horses paddock and took care of their horses water, as, of course, the facility owner didn't. When the owner asked for the paddock weeds to be cut (the boarded even offered to cut them if they could use the mower) so that they could pick the manure up the facility owner made the boarder feel guilty. Amazing, as the facility owner wasn't even giving the basic care the boarder was paying for. Consequently, the horse owner left. He has caused students to quit because of his mean comments. In my opinion the only thing the owner cares about is the money he makes from kid camps and lessons. It is evident he doesn't give a toss about the animals. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was that I fell in love with one of the horses. I looked after her as best as I could.

We LOVE this place! I cannot say enough or emphasize enough to people when they as that learning horsemanship is a million times more than RIDING a horse. Learning how to communicate with your horse, care for it, work as one, have it trust you, before you even get on is key. The horses are very well cared for, have plenty of room to roam and have horse friends. Jim makes sure that any horses used for lessons or camps have the right temperament and he matches riders to the right horses. He also makes sure that my daughter is not only pushing herself in learning new things, but making sure she remembers all the basics and doesn't just pass those over even though she is an experienced "rider". He is also the most patient person! Jim has also been helping us find the right potential horse to own for my daughter. Again, very careful at looking at temperament and training, but what will fit my daughters personality as well. As the place name states - HORSEMANSHIP is the key. Not horse RIDING. We will support this establishment forever!

The camp includes a range of activities to keep campers busy and an optional overnight camp out day where kids can feed the horses, enjoy evening activities and dinner is prepared over the camp fire. Tom has been a wealth of knowledge and patience and his life long love of horses is evident every time he steps in the barn. I have worked with 3 trainers over the past few years and have found Toms quiet but firm method to be very very successful with the Arabian/Saddlebred horse I am riding. Additionally, my 5 year old son who has been around horses all his life begged for lessons. Tom agreed to give him a half lesson and has been wonderful with my very talkative boy who spends at least half the time in the saddle telling the horse how much he loves her. It takes a patient and kind person to manage that. He trotted for the first time last week very nicely, is sitting properly and has a great position in the saddle. Amazing. This stable is not the newest, fancy place you can find but the facilities are always clean, secure and the horses are happy. (Frankly, all of the horses I have been around at the stable have had great manners etc.) I would suggest that anyone looking for a family friendly barn with a great expert trainer check out Mt Si Stables!

They care a lot about the safety of the horse and the rider. The horses are treated GREAT here. They have chiropractor, acupuncture, and massage appointments, are shoed regularly, groomed, turned out every day, fed high quality food, and are kept in incredible condition. The retired horses often go to the Northwest School of Animal Massage for students to practice massaging on. 2. If you don't have your own horse, they have lesson horses. This was one of the hardest things to find when I moved to Washington because I don't own a horse. The lesson horses are super high quality and not over worked at all. 3. You have to take ownership in what you do here. Some other barns will tack up the horse for you and have it waiting once you arrive. At Legacy, you're responsible for retrieving your horse from its stall/paddock, grooming, tacking up, untacking, and cleaning the tack. This is great for some of the younger kids because they learn the basics to taking care of a horse. 4. They host their own fun shows, giving the riding academy and training program students opportunities to compete in a fun environment. The training program is really successful and the students involved are often traveling for horse shows in the warmer months. The facility itself is located at the old Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center in Woodinville with some trails behind it. There's an indoor and outdoor arena for when it's a nice day out. I came to Legacy…read moreat 14 and head trainer Shelly Kerron worked with me to help me truly understand and be able to execute the fundamentals of proper riding and brought me through the ranks to competing at a national level. Shelly's teaching style is a combination of explaining concepts of riding and then creating exercises that encourage riders and horses to demonstrate the concept she is teaching, weather that be straightness, smooth turns, or proper position. Shelly is an excellent horsewoman and Legacy horses all receive impeccable care and training. One of the most notable aspects of Shelly's program is how she teaches proper horsemanship and leadership qualities to young riders and encourages everyone to be involved with the local equestrian community. Many of us who rode with Shelly as juniors became captains or presidents of our college equestrian teams and served on the board of the Washington State Hunter Jumper Association, which puts on shows in the area. Lizzie Kerron, Shelly's assistant and younger sister, is also an excellent instructor and is wonderful with younger kids as well as adults. Lizzie's teaching style compliments Shelly's by her ability to help a rider mentally break down an exercise and explain what riders should be feeling their horses do through each step of the exercise. Legacy also has a lesson program with some of the nicest and well trained lesson horses I've ever encountered. The lesson program always has top quality instruction to teach the basics and offers summer camps and fun shows throughout the year. Horse care at Legacy is a top priority, and many of us call the barn "Spa Legacy" because of all the services and amenities offered (equine massage, chiropractor, therapeutic equipment, equine treadmill to keep horses in shape, just to name a few). If you're looking for a place to learn to ride, take lessons, or compete at the highest level Legacy is the best in the Seattle area.
