JoyHouse coffee, belonging to Evangel Church in Bismarck. This is a big church with constant movement, but it's really such an enjoyable spot to hang out and get work done. The best thing about JoyHouse is that they have crepes!!! Crepes are something I absolutely cannot resist, and I was so excited to see they make them here. Also, I sat in the shop so long that the adorable girl working offered me a free tea! It was so nice and I would for sure come back here again. JoyHouse is rightly named!

We ordered 3 different pizzas on gluten free crusts and paid for extra cheese on 2 of them. Not sure there was any cheese. Barely any ingredients. Some slices had nothing! Crust was like cardboard. Pizza wasn't even cut! One of the photos is from after we cut the pizzas. What a disappointment for what we spent!

We were greeted right away as there was no one else in the restaurant. Its an open floor plan with two rooms. Im guessing its quite lively in the evenings. We shared the chopped salad and the Daisy pizza. The salad was good, though not a traditional chopped salad--it used that trendy wild greens mix that so many restaurants are leaning on these days. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but the menu did specify it, so that one's on me for not paying closer attention. The pizza, however, was absolutely terrific. The crust was soft and chewy with just the right amount of char from the stone oven. The combination of the sauce, cheese, and fresh basil was spot on. They also drizzle a flavored oil over the top--we couldn't quite pinpoint what it was, but it added an extra layer of flavor that really elevated the pizza. We devoured the whole thing--three slices each! At around $20, the pizza might feel a bit pricey, but it's clear that everything is fresh and made from scratch, so it's well worth it. Service was attentive, though we were the only ones there at lunchtime. I imagine this place really comes alive in the evening. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu--and next time, I'm not sharing my pizza.

Didn't live up to the hype…read more Maybe our timing was partly to blame--we arrived just as they were transitioning from the breakfast/lunch menu to dinner. But that wouldn't explain why the Bolognese sauce on my pasta tasted burned. Before that, I had a Kale Caesar salad made with some of the strangest kale I've encountered. Instead of the more familiar curly or Tuscan kale, it had broad, flat, very chewy leaves. I'm guessing it was Portuguese kale, but whatever the variety, the texture was unexpected and just didn't work in a Caesar salad. Based on this experience, I don't see much reason to return, especially with so many other restaurants in Bismarck to try. The only place I've liked less so far was Firepit BBQ, which was simply awful.

Their snack/bakery items are little sacks of chips and granola bars so we were disappointed there weren't any biscotti or scones.
