Worst manager I ever encountered anywhere. Was going to buy 3 pairs of shoes and simply asked if there was any possible discount, senior citizens, Black Friday sale, cash, etc. Was abruptly told that no discounts exist and that they work very hard (as if I don't?) and then cut me off from asking anything else and went away. Ended up buying only one pair and found the others online 20% less with no tax or shipping. STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT THIS STORE BE AVOIDED. The owner of the store should consider firing the manager. Globe Shoes is a family business that has been around for about 70 years. I've purchased my shoes, especially dress shoes and boots, here for over 30 years. Thirty years ago, shoes stores were ubiquitous. Globe then focused on having an unusually large range of shoe sizes with 50,000 pairs of shoes in stock. Now it is one of the few brick and mortar stores left. Add it seems to be the only one that handles unusual shoe sizes with a large selection of shoes. As the proud owner of size 11W feet, Globe is the only game in town in NJ. Now the pricing is list, nothing special. When you have an unusual size, you're just happy from find shoes in your size. Sales for my 11W footsies are a foreign concept. Globe has always had a lousy return policy - seven days, unworn and you only get a store credit. I always had more problems with the seven day limit than the store credit. I live an hour away, which meant I had to take my life in my hands to go to Route 17 finding the turnaround to get a store credit. I personally didn't mind the store credit because I was always buying shoes there. But if you aren't, this can really be difficult. And sometimes people don't either know the policy or think that Globe will bend it. They won't. So why go there? Where else can I try on seven pairs of black heels in 11W from three different manufacturers? Or find attractive dress winter boots? The sales staff is very experienced and not only find the shoes you've selected, but recommend shoes and brands, you hadn't known about. This aspect of customer service is stellar. It is worth the journey, now to Ramsey but it's still on Rte 17. But the customer service otherwise is nearly hostile. Returns are designed to be hard. Disputes over problems with shoes - ex. a strap that breaks - are handled adversarially. I've seen women near tears when they realize they're getting a store credit. Why did I go back? Selection of shoes. Ability to try on shoes. Staff fitting shoes are superior. I know the rules and will deal with them. Why won't they improve their return policy? I suppose because they don't have to. Maybe Globe has lasted for 70 years because they don't take returns. (But they do take returns on the mail order shoes! Probably because there's more competition on line, and they can't say you did try them on). So if they had better customer service for returns and problems, it would be five stars for simply having such a large selection and such good staff plus being a brick and mortar store. the salespeople seem to genuinely care and try to do a good job as they have for about 30+ years for me. I just purchased two pairs of shoes two days ago. At the last second I switched colors on the same shoe and didn't try it on. When I got home I realized it didn't fit right. I drove back and they won't refund my money. Just a store credit. Roger, the manager, claimed there is an absentee owner that would NEVER EVER bend on this. It felt like my money was stolen. I don't say this lightly. Untouched unworn shoes. They don't fit. No time has passed. No refund. That is a truly ugly way to treat the community. And, yes, they pointed out the sign that says no refunds. My bad for not seeing that. Nobody pointed it out to me beforehand, but they might have covered themselves legally by posting it, but not ethically. What a sad way to treat customers. To make matters worse, they have a separate and more humane policy for "internet purchases", but a customer cannot use their store credit for internet purchases. The internet refund policy is: "You may return your website purchase in unworn condition, in the original box, for a full refund within 7 days. Additional shipping fees are at the customer's expense. Globe Shoes management misses my point entirely....or just doesn't care. A No Refund policy is BAD POLICY. There's no other way to say it. A customer has the right to change his/her mind. A store that pretends to care about customers should step up and offer refunds, just like every other store. I don't want store credit. (when I was there, most of the shoes I asked to see were unavailable!!). I simply want my money back. Globe Shoes needs to do the right thing. As for "signage," I didn't see a thing. IF there really is a 3 foot by 3 foot sign behind the register, then I missed it. I love this shoe store. I have wide, flat feet and they have a very nice selection of shoes and a range of widths. The sales men and women are very friendly and willing to help in anyway possible. I happen to get the manager Roger as my salesmen and he was just amazingly friendly and helpful when it came to the style of shoes I was looking for. He didn't hesitate to make sure everything was fitting correctly and if I was happy with it. If I wasn't he was willing to go back and find something I liked. I walked out with 3 new pairs of shoes and he even was nice enough, as the manager, to give us 20% off each pair of shoes even though the sale doesn't start until the next day. Back in the day when I was a young lad my mother would take me to Kates Bros in Hackensack to buy me shoes. I remember walking in and there would be clerks who had actual training in how various shoes fit and which ones would best suit my needs. He would actually measure my foot and make suggestions to my mother about which ones to buy. Sadly, in the world of DSW and Marty's Shoes, this type of treatment and buying experience has all but ended. The job of selecting something that actually fits, suits your needs and, in many cases, actually finding your size now rests firmly on the shoulders of consumers who are often clueless. Fortunately, Globe Shoes retains the tradition of the great shoe stores. Their staff is more than knowledgeable about their inventory and are experts matching client with shoe based on requirements and preference. Are they the cheapest? No, but there are certain times when it's wise to seek something better even if you'd going to pay a bit more for it. I am on my feet at work quite a bit and my shoes weren't quite handling it. My feet hurt and I went home feeling tired because of it. Went to Globe and explained to the clerk that I needed dress shoes that felt more like sneakers. Without hesitation, he recommended a few pair by manufacturer Neil M who's specialty happens to be awesomely comfortable dress shoes. I walked out with a pair and returned to buy two more. The employee assisting me brought everything I asked for, and requested a lot. He did try to upsell a few times, but he quit after a few attempts. After spending over 100 dollars on a pair of work shoes I wore them for a day around the house. Not being able to stand the pain I went to replace them. The employees were polite but had no understanding about how you can't tell by a one minute walk around how a shoe will feel after you have actually worn them in the real world. A basic polite FU . They were wide in the shoe but a narrow steel toe. An obvious problem. And although I didn't want a cash refund the do not offer them. Please don't risk buying from globe. No help. No understanding and no refunds! Update! I was able to go thru the manufacturer and send the boots back to get something that fits. The company, Wolverine was very polite and helpful . I will send the boots bac to them and get ones from them that fit. Apparently I bought the right shoes at the wrong store. When I got the shoes back, they were defensive and kind of rude. I have wide feet, EEE to be exact, and at Globe you can find sneakers and dress shoes to "fit" your needs. Prices are on par with average width shoes, which is very nice. Just wanted to put in a good word for these guys. One caution, the GPS does not find this place automatically. I had to call them to get directions. Great selection across all price ranges! I took advantage of their 20% sale on President's day and bought not one, but two pairs of Allen Edmond's shoes. The salesman was very helpful and willing to wait until I made up my mind. He walked multiple times to the back of the store to get me pairs of shoes that were not on display. Although he made remarks like "these shoes are made in the US, not in some Asian country" (for the record, I find that only amusing and not annoying. Personally, I have experienced the best and worst in both places.), he was generally amicable, chatty and willing to work with me. Granted, I was a sure shot customer (believe me, the sales folks know how to differentiate a guy who is just loitering vs. a guy who means to buy), but still you do not get this kind of customer service any more. And, they have a put up a sign right near the cash registers, which clearly states that there would be no cash refunds and all that. So, if you are not O.K.with that policy, you should not buy from them. For me, that's a trade-off if you are looking for convenience of location, lower price (without tax) and discounts. But, I do see how that can be a problem for some. read more

They have a wide variety of brands famous for supportive and design shoes. I got very excited when I saw brands I was always looking for and exploring other nice brands. But the customer service was just way too horrible! I asked one guy if they had shoes for a specific size & width (women's 5W), and he just told me to look around. Not helpful at all. He tells me I'm trying a shoe (that was on display) that's too small for me, but doesn't ask me if I wanted to try another size in that style. I looked all through the store myself for about 45min and was ready to leave so I started to wear my jacket, and another guy approaches me if I needed help looking for a shoe. No, I already got your coworker's helpless help. The only reason I gave them 3 stars is for giving me the chance to actually wear and try the shoes. We originally went to the Globe Boot shoes across the street, (which was wonderful), and our daughter/son ask to go see if they could found something across the street. As soon as we walked in, there was someone to help us. Not pushy in any way, just helpful. My daughter was able to found Ugg's in her size (which is hard, she has a small foot). Prices are great Store has so maybe Named Brand shoes..We were back in Queens in less then an hour, as you know shopping in the city requires alot longer, and thats if you found what your looking for. read more

Explained the different styles, brought out a few samples to try and measured his size. Quick and Kevin left with exactly what he needed. I have wide foot (ladies 8 WW) and they do have a wonderful selection of wide width shoes that are"sensible" - function over style. It was difficult finding shoes for a fancy dress for a wedding. I did manage to get something thanks to the genuine concern and determination the sales associate had to find something for me. I have had several outstanding sales people and some that were marginally satisfactory. I've only had two that seemed to "strongly" suggest additional purchases. One of the male associates should be told not to wear half a bottle of cologne --- I have asthma and had to avoid him. Overall, if you need wide widths and looking for everyday shoe this is a good place. I used to also buy at Marty's until they went out of business's because the shoes were much cheaper and only a little lower quality. I would like to find another source for wide widths. read more

These people are EXCELLENT, PROFESSIONAL and KIND and PATIENT. Not only were they a really big help with my mother but I observed them giving wonderful service all around the store. My mother has had such a hard time finding shoes that fit her width. They discovered its because her left foot swells more than her right so they promptly adjusted the left shoe for her. Now, I don't have to deal with her constantly returning shoes she bought from a catalogue. I don't have to search in vain at shoe stores that don't accommodate customers with special needs. You may find their items are pricey but, its well worth it in terms of comfort and being stress-free when wearing dressy shoes for nice occasions. I absolutely LOVE them!! Will NEVER Go Back! Went to Globe today for in their website it stated a sale for a particular pair of Ugg women's boots for 149.00. Entered store, found boot. Saw that it was marked regular price of $219. Salesman asked if he could help. I explained what was on website and that's what I needed. " it's not that price, only 10% off ". I told him it was on their site for Black Friday sale and I can show it to him. Very gruffly, " go speak to my manager over there " and turned and walked away. So I walked out. Iv been a loyal Glober for over 3 yrs. Iv bought a few pairs of their shoes and have liked the style and fit. But I have a bad experience with their customer service and this is why I am abandoning this company. Customers obviously don't matter to them. I have been buying my shoes at Globe for the past 15+ years. With each purchase, staff has always been professional and courteous. ( always Florsheim shoes ). In the last couple of years, 2 pairs of shoes were defective ( the 1st time the bottom sole came off and was flopping - I returned the shoes and was given a new pair, however, the Manager made me feel as if I caused the problem ) the 2nd time, the heel of the shoe started coming off, this time, the Manager told me " this is the 1st time this has ever happened " Reminded me that I brought back a pair of shoes in the past and made me feel like I was trying to pull a quick one ( I wasn't ) This time they didn't give me a new pair, they told me they would send it back to Florsheim for their review ( July 6th ) I had to travel about 20 miles, get a spare pair of shoes to wear and bring back the defective shoes as I was wearing them when I brought them in ( they should have given me a new pair of shoes and dealt with Florsheim on their own in my opinion ). Today ( 8/23 ) after getting American Express involved in the dispute a few weeks ago, they gave me a new pair of shoes ( the Manager was a nasty and said " this is it, no more exchanges " ) again, making me feel like this situation was caused by me. To summarize, if you are buying/ spending money, they are phony nice- if you have a problem, they were accusatory and became professionally nasty- I will not be going back and will let others know about this experience read more

Horrible customer service. You can buy same shoes in extended sizes with a much better return policy @ Zappos. Globe offers sales a couple times of year. If they don't have your size in stock, they say they will order. Price structure of sale was buy 1 pair get 10% off. Buy 2 15% off. You pay upfront only to be called that one of the pairs you bought is out of stock for many months. Who is going to wait many months for a basic pair of shoes??? Globe will NOT honor price of the one pair unless you wait the 3+ months for the second with your money being held by them. This is their fault and they will not honor price??? How is this right? With all the many options for extended sizes out there there is no need to shop at Globe. read more

I've been going to Globe Shoes for most of my life and I could always count on superior quality. I am disappointed with my last purchase. Bought a pair of sandals (Walking Cradles) in June and it only took two months for the cushioning of the shoe to wear away from the heel. Needed a new pair of hiking shoes. I had bought at least 3 pairs of shoes there in the past 10 years. The only shoes that worked worked were actually NB sneakers. I paid what I thought was a lot for them but I really don't have time to shop for the best deal. That being said, I went home and looked up the model of sneaker I bought and found an ad for Modells less than a mile from Globe for the same sneaker. Seems that Globe had charged me $10 more than list price! And the ad (from Modells) was for $10 less than that! I called Globe to complain and they told me to bring in the receipt. When I got there I was told they would honor the "list price", but not match the competitor. They refunded my $10 to only charge the list price but I am sure I burned that much in gas just bring the receipt down there. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING ELSE AT GLOBE. The salesmen were really nice but the checkout staff really needs an overhaul! A few things happened while my friend and I were checking out. First, there was a coupon available that was not applied to my order. I was told that the coupon expired the previous week and it couldn't be used. A different customer had that very same coupon applied to her bill by a different cashier. Second, my friend's purchase was declined at the register. The cashier simply said it was declined, then stepped away from the register. She said she wasn't told what the reason for the decline. When asked to ring again, she refused. Third, while waiting on my friend to contact her bank for the decline reason, I decided to join the rewards club. Now granted, I was previously asked to join the club and I declined, but there is still no excuse for any cashier to act like she's doing the customer a favor by enrolling them in a program that they offer. Programs are meant to boost sales. Since my friend could not resolve her issue with her bank, I paid for her items and we left. After leaving, she tried her card at an ATM and was able to withdraw funds. The reason for the decline at the store was due to the cashier's error - she keyed in the wrong amount. Had the cashier been willing o review what she did and make the necessary correction, it would've saved us the unnecessary embarrassment and frustration of being served by people who clearly didn't want to serve us. Wake up Globe Shoes, Paramus! People come in all colors, and the sales you want are all green. Treat people differently and you will see less green. I am going to tell people of color that they will be waited on by professional salesmen, but their checkout service will be facilitated by backwater rubes. read more

No customer service- beware. Will never go back. Nice until you need something that is not routine, then they tell you to jump in a lake. I bought $773 in merchandise last week. Big mistake. Two days later I got an offer in the mail that if I spent $500 in shoes I would get 2500 miles. So I went back with the receipt and proof of the offer today and asked them to refund on one card and charge another. The cashier got the manager, who told me his name was Dave , and he refused to do it. He tried to tell me it was impossible under their system but then admitted it was their policy not to do it. I asked for someone with more authority- someone who might understand the benefit of a customer who spent $773 at one time. He said there was no one higher than he was. He then admitted that there was a way to process it but and that he would not do it. As this would not have cost them anything, and I was obviously a good customer, clearly they don't care about customers after they walk out the door. Personally, ii would rather spend my money at a place where they appreciate my business and want me back and are willing spend ten minutes to make a customer happy. read more

SO disappointed in this store!! I went in to buy a pair of nursing shoes on a weekday evening. After trying on the ONLY pair they had in the store briefly with a pair of peds, I decided I would take them home to try with socks and walk around a bit more. As someone else noted, it is hard to gauge whether shoes will be comfortable for 12 hours of work based on a few minutes in the store. I asked the sales associate (who seemed tired and was not very helpful) if I could return them and he nodded and replied simply "You have 7 days". So, I bought them for $110 to give them a try. After determining they were rubbing uncomfortably, I decided to bring them back. However, once in the store, I was met with an extremely defensive manager who told me I could exchange only and that there was a sign over the register that I should have read. I also encountered the salesman from the previous day and asked him why he didn't inform me of this policy. I was unsure of the shoes to begin with and since they were the ONLY pair of all white nursing shoes in the store, I certainly wouldn't have bought them if I knew I would be stuck with them. He replied "You didn't ask". As someone who has also worked in retail for years, I am appalled and disappointed by this store's approach to "customer service". Not once was it mentioned that I could not return the shoes (not by the associate or at the register). If a store is to have such a stringent policy, it would help to at least mention it to the customers. ESPECIALLY, since I made a point of asking the salesman, which leads me to assume he purposely did not inform me. How hard would it have been to add 2 more words "Exchange only" ?! I felt attacked when I tried to make the return and really let-down by the staff's actions.... like I was viewed solely as a source of commission or a dollar amount. Needless to say, in the future I will be taking my business elsewhere, where I am treated with respect and properly informed by the sales associates. They are the worst shoe store in Paramus. After spending &400.00 on shoes that were supposed to be comfortable, I found myself returning them because they caused me great foot pain. Upon my arrival I was greeted by Anthony, a very rude , store manager, only to be told that I could not exchange them or get a refund . He accused me of wearing the shoes and was not going to exchange them. I told Anthony I wore the shoes around the house, but he did not seem to care. He told me he would not allow me to make the exchange. Globe shoes will never see me again and I will never recommend anyone to buy from them.
