This review refers to the company, not this particular store: After paying off my vehicle financed through GCU, there was essentially a double-charge/overpayment of $450. Although my direct payments were on time every month for 36 consecutive months, they told me they would have to mail me a check for the refund of $450. Fast-forward nine weeks and I still have not been refunded. NINE WEEKS. After escalating it as high as I could, the customer service rep started mouthing off to me about how there was "no magic button", things "get lost in the mail", and they weren't going to acquiesce to my request after "I reach some kind of boiling point". They wouldn't allow me to make extra payments to pay off earlier/ go towards principal so I ended up going with another CU. .7% higher but I'd rather be able to make extra payments at a higher rate than to be with this garbage company. Not to mention the interface on the app is just garbage. We might as well use AI for the engineer jobs here because the everything about the site screams 2010. They cannot help their customers when a payment on a car loan has already been made... they use a third party portal that if you don't call immediately after the payment is made...then they cannot help you.. the payments don't even go through them.. then when you call in, the first round of customer service is rude.... They also treat their co-borrowers differently than the first borrowers on the loan... you can't access the account without the main borrower... but they would hold you just as accountable if payments weren't being made. read more

Worst bank I've ever experienced. They interrupt you, don't listen, give conflicting information depending on who you speak to, and their management just doesn't reply. Not a single employee can tell me what accomodations they offer to disabled people for access, and when I've explained my needs, they act like I'm not making sense and try to document that I didn't state them. They consistently spew microaggressions against disabled people as if they are trained to do so. The president of this bank has a phone number listed on the Global website that goes to a voicemail of a child named Reese. I have always had great service with Alaska Federal credit Union, now that their Global credit union, I'm not sure. I can't find my bank account number on the app. .So I called the customer service number. They tell me for security reasons they don't list my bank account number on my app. OK, but I called today to get that number so I can make a transaction, they say the whole time is 10 minutes, well, that 10 minutes turned into 25 minutes when somebody finally got on the phone with me. I answered all their security questions, but she was not able to give me the account number, and transferred me to the help desk. 35 minutes later, the helpdesk calls me back to ask me a laundry list of personal questions before they could give me my account number. I could've driven to the branch and back in rush-hour traffic to get what I needed. It was an hour just to have someone provide me with my electronic bank acct number. Torn on rating, because the branch location has no control over the major mess corporate made in this ridiculous name change. Being from Alaska, it was very convenient having Alaska USA branches in Arizona, so I could still do local banking without having to switch everything. So I really appreciate the multiple locations here, State-side. (What I don't appreciate is their name change has screwed up just about everything including online login- it's all just a hassle of a "global" issue.) This branch, in specific, was probably one of the most pleasant I've visited. Kind of hidden in the Tempe Marketplace complex waaaay in back right off the side of Rio Salado. It's pretty much the only entity in that corner, so it's easy to find & parking is abundant. The facility is very clean inside. I was one of two customers so there was no wait time- crazy for around lunch hour on a Tuesday. All of the reps at the counter were eager enough to wave me over! Better busy than bored, lol. The clerk assisting me was very professional & polite. I needed a cashier's check. The entire process was quick & easy. ...but of course their signature pad was malfunctioning. They update EVERYTHING else, but not the crucial electronics or website logins. She managed to maneuver easy enough by basic troubleshooting jerking the Ethernet cord out of it & reinserting. Did the trick. I was in & out less than 10 minutes. And I appreciate that! But, I'm still peeved, more than annoyed with their terrible rebranding decision. This branch earns the stars, but I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to tolerate their "global" functioning before I pull out to a more reliable credit union. I initially joined because of the access to my Alaska account in Arizona, being able to have a branch no matter what State I'm in, since my main financial institution does not have a branch up there. But, the headache of their rebranding is proving that it might be time to move on. With everything being electronic, this is the first time I've even visited a branch in a LONG time! I have several other accounts but TCF is so subtle to garner more of my business. just a reminder here and there coupled with the very best lobby service in my life. We went there from out of town to deposit a large cashiers check and cash out some US Savings Bonds. Chose this branch as it was closest to the airport. Had a pick up there. Dealt with Jordan. She took care of the deposit quickly. Also dealt with Savings Bonds quickly and efficiently. It was a relief as we have been to other credit unions where no one has done Savings Bonds. When this was TCF Bank, they were great. Tellers were always nice, helpful and friendly. Once they sold out to Alaska they started nickel and dime-ing every last thing. You can't even use the coin machine for free, even if you're depositing the money. Before the bank transition took place they sent me no less than 8 requests via phone, email and mail to confirm my info for the transfer. I confirmed every one of them and they still didn't have the info. I had to call in because I never got a confirmation. This happened with my daughter's teen account as well and we just withdrew the money and closed the account. It wasn't worth the trouble. They told me not to change my direct deposit info with work and assured me they did it for me as a courtesy. Guess what happened? They lost my direct deposit! I would have changed banks after that but I'm in the process of buying a home and didn't want any confusion. I called today for basic info on a wire transfer for escrow. I just needed the cutoff time and fee amount. The rep who answered took all my account info and then transferred me to "someone else". I sat on hold for 10 minutes before I finally hung up. Why is a rep qualified to answer the phone and take my bank account info, but apparently not qualified to give me basic wire info?!? If a bank can't even provide basic information on their services, what is the point of me banking with them? This bank is beyond frustrating and their customer service is non-existant. Once my home purchase is completed, I will be closing my 2 remaining accounts with them. Please remember that your customers have many other options for banking. Just because you took over our accounts, doesn't mean we're stuck with you. Update: My husband went to a different branch on McKellips hoping for better customer service with the wire transfer. He got there at 1. The wire transfer cutoff is 1:30. I googled it because I couldn't get anyone on the phone to give me the info. Instead of providing the service we asked for, the teller argued with him for 10 minutes, and then went to the back to ask a manager, who confirmed the cutoff time is 1:30! Anyway, because of another incompetent branch and more untrained employees, we missed the wire cutoff. Thanks, guys. Not sure if I just lost the home I'm trying to purchase because of you. TCF Bank will close your account because you didn't respond back within 30 days to their questionnaire submitting your residential address and answering other nonsense and invasive questions. The only reason I decided to open up an account with them was because they were close and offered "FREE" Checking Account. Catch is, you have to pay $19 for some checks that nobody really uses in this time in age. I wasn't even going to continuing GIVING THEM MY BUSINESS considering they are a small BRANCH but I went along anyway & opened an account I now regret. First of, I was told since I opt for online statements I wouldn't get charged a fee. I did, twice. I called TCF Bank about 4 times within 2 months of being a new customer and each time got lied to with them saying they were going to stop charging me the fee & reimburse me, never did. Then, I receive so much JUNK Advertisement mail that, WHO REALLY sits & read their mail from a corporation from a BANK? Well, I don't & I didn't so because of that TCF closed my account. I called again, 5X, was told that because of the Terrorist Act of the PATRIOT ACT that because I didn''t respond back to their mandatory questionnaire, they were acting illegally because they could not verify my residence & because of that closed the account. I said I want my checking acct & fees reimbursed & the teller for TCF told me that I would have to reopen the account by SUBMITTING the questionnaire or sending in a electric or other utility bill of my resident. I was a fan of TCF Bank back in Illinois. They had them in the major grocery chains and they offered free online access and no fees back when the other banks were charging for that. In Arizona, however, their branches are quite scattered and it's a pain to find any. This one in particular is a nightmare to get to due to its placement in Tempe Marketplace. And because there are no branches to be found, there are no free ATMs to use either. As for the fees, they recently started hitting me for $9.95 a month with no explanation why. When I closed my account, citing the fees as the reason, the teller replied "You know, all of the banks will be charging fees soon." Yeah, I can see how important I was as a customer. I told him I bank with ING Direct, who charges no fees for anything, and he just replied "Oh." And here's another kicker; if you opened your account in another state, you can't use any of their ATMs in any other state for free. Apparently TCF is a regional bank, despite having locations nationwide. Their systems aren't linked either; if I didn't have my account number with me, they would have to call the Illinois branch to get it, which was never a quick process. Sure I could have opened an account in Arizona, but what's the point of doing that when the bank is so inconvenient to use? I'll stick with the truly free online banking through ING Direct (complete with free ATMs nearly everywhere) and stomach Chase for my local branch since they don't charge me anything to bank with them. They also have free ATMs and a lot of branches available nationwide. read more

Well read the other reviews of this bank. They are not good. However, i have always had a very good experiance here. True they are spread out,not too close to where i live or work. However, you can do a lot on line. I have been in here several times and always had good customer service. Maybe i am lucky i never had to deal with Mrs. Torres.....They at this time will give you a $100.00 if you open an acct. very much like Chase. They are not, all employees we met with when we opened the account have been replaced a couple of times. I've had an account for about 5 or 6 months. Today I plan to close it. The idea of extended business hours pulled me in. However what they don't tell you is the operate on midwestern hours so when you bank after 3pm local time things are posted as being done the next business day. The issue I have is I saw my account was in overdraft and raced to cover it before the close of the local business day. However I was informed I would still be charged the $37 OD fee on a couple of dollars mishap. I thought at a previous occassion that the amount was $5 or under I would not be hit with an OD fee for any bank but learned that was not the case with this bank. Today I discovered my mgmt company hacked my account to collect a $25 fee I refused to pay. I have never paid them with bill pay. I have only hand writtenb a check or paid with a money order. TCF refuses to accept these facts and wants me to pay $32 stop payment or to allow the bill pay check to go through and then dispute it. As I told them I am not working and $25 can create a nightmare of OD fees for me in the meantime. My only resort is to close the account. Cancel the legitmate bill pays I have in que and to pay my bills via a different bank account, MO or cash. And to eat the cost of the checks I ordered when opening the account barely 6 months ago. Along with the 3 unfair OD fees for accounting errors I tried to correct in the 1st 24 hours of noticing them. The staff is not friendly at this location andeveryone claims their hands are tied buy bank policy or the time difference when I have an issue. Also please note I can seldom get the online statements to open! As is the case today. read more

I was extremely disappointed about my first visit to TCF. I went April 1st 2016 at 5:30 pm with the intention of opening a checking account. The teller, a younger woman in her late 20s, a brunette with blue eyes was the employee helping me. I wanted just a checking account and brought in enough cash for the minimum deposit. She explained the process of opening accounts and told me I would need to open both a checking and a savings account each with a minimum deposit. I reluctantly agreed. She told me that I would need to order checks for $20. I asked if I could skip the checks as I never use them. She then looked at me like I was stupid and asked how I pay my rent. First of all, it's none of her business. She acted rude and mouthy the whole time like I was a huge inconvenience to her. I was having trouble getting money from their ATM for my opening deposit on the savings account I didn't want. I asked if she could charge my card for the deposit amounts. Again, she responded quickly with a no like I had asked a ridiculous question. I grabbed my ID off the counter and walked out of the branch. I am only giving this review 2 stars and not 1 because I believe that one employee does not reflect the organization as a whole. Update: I went in the next day and opened an account with a gentleman who was great and provided wonderful service. It turns out that the woman had lied to me, and it is no problem to open just a checking account. So from the very start I was lied to by an employee of the bank I want to use. Great first impression. I also did not need to order the checks that I didn't want. That woman was a bad reflection on their image. I will be avoiding her while I bank at TCF. I banked with TCF for roughly 5 years while I lived in Arizona. I initially selected them because they opened a branch near my home, and 7 days a week is a big draw. Add to that little things like a free coin counting service and they are very appealing. I have had two negative experiences with TCF. The first occasion was when I had just moved into a new place and I went to a third party atm so that my roommate and I could put money together for a money order to pay the rent. That ATM malfunctioned and never gave me my money so I took my receipt and went into the bank to resolve the issue. For whatever reason the receipt had a different time stamping than what was in their system and they refused to correct it and I had to pay a late fee on my rent. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off. Other than that, the only problem I have had with them was when I moved out of state. I recently moved to Washington and of course I kept my bank account with TCF while I was making the move so that I didn't have any issues while I was driving for 4 days. However, when I got here of course there were no local branches so I had to get a new account. When I attempted to close my TCF account, they refused to do so over the phone and informed for me that I had to send a notarized letter to them. I think this is complete b******* . My best recommendation to you would you be very careful how you deal with them they have great services but they are very local bank and if you run into any issues with them they're just going to make you wait. By the way, I was unable to use my debit card in the entire state of Oregon unless I use a pin code. That means, I was unable to use it at any gas station. Pain in the neck. I should also mention that their customer service agents in Minnesota can be very difficult to understand and they are rather ignoramus. The last one I spoke to sounded like she had marbles in her mouth and just went on and on with endless details I did not need to hear while I attempted to get the pertinent information out of her feeble mind. read more

I have had saving accounts with this so called bank for years, dealt with the same banking person all of the time. Then I sold my building, machine shop and all of my personal property. All this money I have that I worked all of 45 years to earn. I then deposited it all into this bullshit bank. This pit invited me and waived twice all the fees to put this money into a higher paying liquid savings account called the performance account that pays 1.9% interest. Then after one month I receive a letter from this two faced bank headquarters that they are closing my account. The branch did not even know this was happening??? WHAT??? They will not give a reason for doing so. WHAT??? WHY??? This is my whole life savings. In all my years and dealing with many banks and load company's I have never been treated like this. I can only believe that they are leaving the state of Arizona or completely CLOSING DOWN and I was fortunate enough to get my money out before they did. Be VERY VERY careful with this failing bank or all the bullshit they feed you!!! They do not even have any more open seven days a week and the open hours are cut back. I've banked with TCF for 2 years now. I have had absolutely no issues with them. They have free coin counting, which i use quite a bit since the abyss of my purse collects 10 lbs of change in no time at all. they stay open 7 days a week, which i tend to only like to go to the bank on Sunday so this is awesome too. ABOVE ALL, TCF has the option when you sign up to opt in or out of overdrafts. Opting in, means they will pay merchant or check recipient for your overdrafts but charge you a fee, or Opting out meaning when you run out of money, your card stops working so you don't rack up 3 overdraft fees for your $6 Starbucks Lattes if you're anything like me. TCF has truly been a godsend. I will never bank with anyone else! read more

I banked with them for about 4 years and every experience with them was less than impressive. The customer service is godawful. Even talking to management was a disappointment. They act like you're a waste of their time and your business isn't wanted. When I left they didn't ask why or offer any apologies for my repeated negative experiences. Instead of "Hello! What can we do for you today?!" You get "What do you want?". It's no wonder they've gone down hill since the management change over a couple years ago. Bad move guys. As banks go, TCF has been a pretty typical experience for us. That, unfortunately, isn't saying much because our experience with banks over the years has been more negative than positive if it's been anything at all. We have always chosen a small, neighborhood oriented bank over the large national or multi-nationals because we like being treated as a human being and a, well, a neighbor. We chose TCF initially because of the hours. They were very friendly and welcoming at the beginning. They were open on Sundays and weekdays until 7PM. This really helped us out because of our crazy work schedule. They also gave us the Opt out on debits so we wouldn't be charged an overdraft fee if we accidentally used our debit card without enough funds, in other words, the card simply wouldn't work if we tried to use it with insufficient funds - at least, that's what we were told would happen. It frequently didn't happen that way and we had to contest the charges every time it charged us an overdraft. On most of those occasions, we put up enough of a stink that they relented and reversed the charges. Not always however. Either way, we shouldn't have had to deal with it given the plan to which we signed on. Then they changed their hours and were no longer open late on weekdays or on Sundays at all. There never seemed to be the same people working at the branch, indicating that it was either poorly managed (leading to a high turnover) or used as a training branch. In either case, no one ever really got to know us and it devolved into our usual "meh" banking experience. The only time they ever got overly friendly was when they were pushing some kind of home loan or credit card deal. We finally opened an account at MidFirst bank and have been so delighted with the experience, we are in the process of closing all of our TCF accounts (our family had a total of 5 accounts there). The account executive we've been dealing with at Midfirst has been at the same branch for six years, and they always greet us as an old friend when we visit. Here's hoping some megagiant doesn't buy them and turn it into the new Wells Fargo or Chase or whatever. We finally feel like we found OUR bank. TCF wasn't it. Not by a long shot. read more
