From day one we were starting to practice on each other and then about two weeks in we started working on clients! Starting to do services on clients that early in the school year really gave me confidence for the rest of the year. However, I learned more than just the practical part of esthetics. I was taught everything from the history of esthetics and the full human anatomy to chemistry and electricity. The theory part of the schooling was simplified, even when learning chemistry and anatomy (not my strong suits), the content was taught to us in a way the whole class could all understand. The teachers in the program are some of the kindest, most genuine people I know. Sabrina and Heather were so nice and I always felt supported. The whole class was treated equally and with respect. Any issues within the classroom between students were resolved fairly and with discretion. They are truly some of the best people I know. The same can be said about the entire staff at JCI. The school itself is beautiful, very clean, and modern. The owners are very friendly and hands on. Everyone from the school including administration, admissions and financial aid make you feel welcome and like part of the family from day one. I had such a great experience at JCI and I would not only recommend, but push people towards taking any program at this school!

However , the reason for my one star review ; One of the staff members (teachers) I witnessed did not hold any ounce of professionalism or respect when dealing with both clients as well as students. In my time spent in the salon I watched the students doing their best to handle the fact that their teacher was being un necessarily rude about the critiques she was giving them and when giving critiques didn't even have the respect to pull the student aside rather decided to berate these poor students in front of their client embarrassing them over small mistakes that were not even noticed by myself or the other clients in my surrounding area. She did not demonstrate any of the tools of a good supportive leader and I hope the Blanche Macdonald school seriously considers a different position for her within the school away from students and clients. Or seriously re evaluates her position at the school. As no client should have to see her treat people this way , people deserve respect in all regards and it is important to remember that these young people are learning. When I showed up she questioned me as to whether I had actually booked an appointment which was clearly marked on her calendar. It took well over 15 minutes to finally sit in a chair. I've been to the school on a number of previous occasions and was always very well received and happy with the overall experience. This was a first time incident and the young woman who was apparently chief instructor, was unkind and unprofessional. I brought this up with the instructor who oversaw my haircut and she reacted negatively as well. That said, the students were helpful. So I have to say that this was a very bad day all around and I prefer to not return.

Tragic(it lasted me only for a week). I stopped by to request a booking. The salon was very packed and busy. A lady(who turned out to be the owner) came rushing to help me book an appointment. Unfortunately they have no more room for the day but she booked me for another day. I half sniffled-held up my broken nail finger and asked, "what should I do in a mean while?". And she gave a dramatic gasp and begin to file that *bleep* down for me. Pro. I returned the next day and it was dramatically different. There were no other clients in the salon and I was only one. I was greeted by Hannah & Cindy duo. It took me a while to try to decide what I would like for the colour change. They didn't rush me. They chatted and laughed along with me, making me feel very comfortable. Sure, it helps that I was the only one in and it was a down time. But I stayed getting my nails done until they were closing off the salon. And they never made me feel like they want to get rid of me as quick as possible for some relaxation of their own. Hannah in particular was the one who worked on my nails and she was so thorough and detailed. I'm not an expert on all these nail things and she took her time to answer all my questions. Including none-related cooking questions. I hope Hannah & Cindy are still around. They were such a great people to be around and made the whole experience great. My visit was 3 months ago. And I'm still writing this review. This should show how much of a great experience I've had in this location thanks to those two!
