If I could give this place less than one star, I would. This is a cautionary tale, so buckle up and read on. My Mom was admitted to Glenview Terrace from the hospital in late February of this year. She was sent to Glenview Terrace for "rehab." The idea being, she would receive the physical therapy she needed to get back on her feet, she would receive radiation and return home. Luckily, I was able to be there with her, Let me first say that the Doctor in charge of her care was Dr. Jindayl. He saw my mom only one time the whole time she was there. I received ZERO communication from him the ENTIRE time my mom was a patient there. The first and only time I ever met him, he wanted to start taking certain medications away. He wanted to cut her blood pressure medication off, cut back her diabetes medication and lower the dose of her coreg, for heart failure. I realize my mom had been given a terminal diagnosis, but with radiation, the oncologist had said she would get pain relief, and more time (maybe a year he said). They are severely understaffed. The nurse that is the palliative nurse at Glenview terrace (Julie I believe her name is) came in one time, the first day she was there. Said she read my moms records and insisted my mom had brain metastses (she did not, they did an MRI before she went to Glenview) and that she had pulmonary embolisms (news to me since this was never diagnosed at the hospital). I had arranged for a palliative nurse from the hospital to help with her care and when she came, she was to change the medications because my moms pain was not well managed. I went in the following morning, saw that my mom was in terrible pain, went out and asked the nurse to bring the pain meds and she told me the order was never changed. I had to go down to Alpa (the charge nurse on the 2nd floor) and put her on my cell phone with the palliative doctor to get the order correctly inputted, only to have the order hanged again one week later with not one person able to explain why it got changed or who had done it. The physical therapy is a JOKE. They come in maybe for 5-10 minutes and half the time, they don't even give the PT. It wasn't bad enough that insurance will only approve the care on a week by week basis, so there is that stress, but they aren't really helpful in getting the patient on their feet. They did not give my mom a shower, we had to complain after 2 weeks to get that done. The food is terrible and the orders are never right. On the weekends, one day the lunch was over an hour late, when we asked why, they said they are short staffed on the weekends. One morning, they laid my moms bed down flat (she was on oxygen and should never have been flat), pinched the oxygen canula in the bed frame so nothing was coming through, and nobody came to help her. When my husband got there, still nobody had come to help her. The next morning, my moms blood pressure was 220/140, she was very ill, they sent her back to the hospital, and suddenly her troponin was elevated (indicator of heart attack). They got her stabilized overnight and sent her back. At this point, I was told that her insurance would not pay anymore and I had to pay 7K to keep her there, and apply for medicaid for her. I went home, did research and learned that I did not have to pay, as her daughter I was not responsible for her medical bills, that they could NOT discharge her and that the only thing I had to do, by law, was apply for medicaid for her. When we confronted their business manager and case manager with that information, they had to agree that we were correct. I suddenlt became scared to leave her there after that, concerned about retaliation. Her roomate had fallen one night in the bathroom, I ran to get help, and when the CNAS came in, the curtain was closed and I heard them say, "I am sick of her shit." This woman had some dementia, but she was active and talkative. The next morning I came in and she was practically comotose. She stayed that way for 3 days until they moved her to the 3rd floor, which from what I am told, is a place you never want your loved one to be. At that point, I realized that my mom would be dead if she stayed there so I decided to take her home. I took my mom home 3/14, my mom died on 3/21. To this day I believe the oxygen being pinched sent her into a tailspin and did damage to her heart. She had been given a year by the oncologist, I believe Glenview Terrace's negligent care caused damage to her heart and lungs and she was dead in 4 weeks. She was a mother, a grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, her life mattered, having her for a year mattered. She wanted to LIVE. Glenview Terrace doesn't give a damn about the elderly, or the sick, those they are entrusted to care for and I was with her 75% of the time she was there. So, please heed my sad story of my mom. I will miss her until the day I die. read more
