It's spring now and sheep have just had their lambs. You'd see 1 sheep with a baby hanging out. We saw magpies (birds). There is a stream in front of the house. The home is very clean and Zell greeted us warmly. The room we had was large (#5) and had a large bed with 2 twins. The shower was great. There was a hot water pot with tea and coffee. The internet, because of their location, works only downstairs in the main room. There was a black wood burning stove roaring and a nice view out the windows where we would eat breakfast. Liam talked to us a bit I. The evening. Breakfast was Irish with the sausage and black and white pudding. I don't care for it. The woman that served did not understand much English but she was kind and cordial. There was yogurt, cheese, ham, cereal and juices. Overall, I'd stay there again.

Located just 15 minutes walking from the visitor Centre of Glendalough, the two owners will welcome you in the best way possible. They keep your stuff when you arrive even if the room is not ready, they give you very useful tips for your journey, and they can even book a table at the restaurant for you !!!!! There was a cozy den downstairs with books and a fireplace that you could relax in. We were disappointed that the fire wasn't going when we arrived because we were so cold but it was going the next night and we hung out there a bit before dinner. Breakfast was delicious and because we had to catch the train early our last day Daphne kindly made us to go bags of breakfast, extra tricky because I am gluten free and my daughter is vegetarian. Rathdrum is tiny but Stiraboutlane is within walking distance of a grocery, a few restaurants, the train station and Avondale.

It boasts being recognized in the top 100 restaurants by the New York Sunday Times and is in the Michelin guide. Quite possibly one of the most cozy, welcoming places one could find off the beaten path in Ireland. Gorgeous, old-world interior with wood stoves and fireplaces in every room, deep padded armchairs you can lose yourself in. Sink into one of these, accompanied by an excellent cup of tea, crusty buttery croissant with fresh made grass-fed cow cream and admire tons of fun little Tchotchkes and handmade crafts, many of which are for sale. Also, it just so happened that Wednesdays are "Pizza Night" so we went to the pizzeria/mini grocer connected to The Coach House and ordered our fresh, delicious, pizzas that were delivered to us back at the bar. The breakfast is everything you can dream of and we could never finish all our food. The lunch packs provided on demand are perfect to take on a hike or day trip to the coast. The house is beautiful and our room was very comfortable and well equipped (the bed was particularly amazing, we hadn't slept that well in months!). It looks like the whole house was redone recently and all the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. We immediately loved the place when we got there! The house is a bit out of the town, in a very quiet road and is ideally located if you want to hike on some of the trails in the Wicklow Mountains: one of the trails goes just across the road from the house and will take you to the information center (where the other trails start) in just 5 min. Being exactly 1hour drive away from Dublin airport, we are really hoping to make the Derrymore House a regular stop when travelling from the US to France.
