They always greet me when I come in, have given me free T-shirts, and never complain on the days I can't pay.

Yes I am a fan! I…read moredid not necessarily go here for their services, but I have been here several times while I was in an internship, so I just felt that I should give them recognition. I am not really go in to detail about what they do, because you can see all of that information on their website, but I will give brief info. The Bronx Defenders is a non-profit organization that provide a service in defending people's cases...basically like lawyers/ attorneys. They help represent people who cannot afford the services of lawyers. I can tell you that the individuals that work here do 100% care about what they do. I remember doing my intern in the summer of 2008, where I several other interns, and a few of the Bronx Defenders went to several communities and interviewed tenants in those neighborhoods. At the end we presented our findings to the people at the Bronx Defenders. It was a great experience overall, because we all met different people, as well as learned about their stories. I have to admit, some of the people that we met in the communities were a bit crazy, but interesting to no limit. Some people invited us into their house, which was a bit scary to do, because I did not know them, and they did not know us. I don't know if they were skeptical of us or not, but to invite us in their house...I would never do that - no way possible..lol. Great experiences.

A friend of mine is opening a small artisan consignment shop, and we were able to find amazing store displays--stand shelving, a bench, and several other pieces that helped create the perfect rustic yet chic, neutral look she was going for. The staff and volunteers were incredibly pleasant, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. Parking is free, and I highly recommend going early during the weekday to make it easier to find a spot and less crowed. This place truly carries everything you could need for your home--sofas, bedroom and office furniture, bathroom items (from sinks to toilets), pots, home décor, light fixtures, shelving... you name it, they likely have it. They are constantly receiving new donations, so you never know what you'll find on a daily or weekly basis. Every time we thought we had found everything we needed, we decided to take one more look--and each time, we discovered even more great items. On top of that, it feels especially good knowing that your purchases support such a meaningful and worthwhile organization. If you have furniture or home items to donate, this is absolutely a place to bring them. I will definitely be back and highly recommend stopping in--you never know what treasures you'll find!

She also mentioned that they have a moving company to help you transport purchases for those of us who are car-free. * friendly helpful staff * clean * large inventory * transport available

I traveled for over 12 hours. They knew about my disability and sent me to a facility that wasnt suitable for my disabilitie. The staff was rude. Consistently on their phones making clients wait until they were done texting. Some staff wouldn't even respond when asked a question. Totally ignoring you. They are not organized at all. I used to work for dhs many years ago. And this behavior wasn't acceptable! Find staff that are serious about helping the clients. They walk down the hallway talking horrible about the clients. Which is supposed to remain confidentia. They have no compass ot empathy. Many people struggle with making decent money. Some people live check to check. They are only a few steps ahead of us. They could find themselves in the same situation any time. The staff needs to do better. The facility is in bad condition.
