There are certain advantages to growing old in Manhattan. New York City is pedestrian-friendly,…read morethere's accessible transportation, half-priced fares ... and as I recently learned, the Lenox Hill Neighborhood Association. (This review focuses on Saint Peter's Church; part two of my assessment falls under "Lenox Hill Neighborhood House.") The church is attached to the Citicorp Building. Enter on East 54th Street and take the steps or elevator down a level. The first time there, I was blown away by the number of people gathered in the main area. (It's a good thing when residents access community resources.) There are discussion groups, various exercise classes and miscellaneous programs, ie opera appreciation, mah jong, karaoke. The calendar changes monthly. They offer a healthful farm-to-table lunch, served weekdays at noon for $1.50. To sign up, bring proof of NYC residency and age -- you have to be at least sixty -- to their facility on East 70th Street. You might call to find out if you can register at the church -- the number is 646/306-4492 -- but once you're in the system you can participate in programs at both locations. Importantly -- it's FREE!!

I highly recommend Sunnyside Community Services in Queens, which covers the 11369 area. My mother…read morehas dementia, and I've been working with Sunnyside since 2022. I honest and truly have no complaints. Recently, I required 7-day-a-week coverage for my mom while I was on disability for three months and unable to care for her myself. During that time, Sunnyside sent me three exceptional PCAs. Destiny Walker handled the 40 weekday hours and was absolutely amazing with my mom and all of her care needs. Tiana Singh covered Saturdays (8 hours) and was also exceptional and very attentive. Margi Neablas, who worked Sundays(8 hours), may not be fully fluent in English, but she consistently went above and beyond for my mom, and was able to understand enough to make it work. I no longer need home care services now that my health has improved and I'm able to care for my mom again. However, if I ever need services in the future, I would be adamant about requesting Sunnyside Home Care--and specifically these three wonderful ladies. They will be sorely missed. Thank you to Destiny, Tiana, Margi, and Sunnyside Community Services.
