Toured the barn and learned more about Stan and his property. His property and hiking paths along the marsh are wonderful. His own art and those from others are spread throughout the property and are interesting and well laid out. The signs in front of each piece are whimsical and Stan's sense of humor is apparent across the property. We spent almost 3 hours on the property and still didn't see everything. Everyone I spoke to regarding the wedding planning with the venue always said to keep in mind that most venues arent very personable, you are just a number...that was the furthest from the truth here. These ladies all knew who I was, what we loved, and everything about our wedding! FDC is a 'needle lady'. No, that doesn't mean she likes to be annoying (though she does...she is my…read moresister after all!), it means she loves doing needlepoint. It's her principal form of relaxation. I don't needlepoint, however I have always enjoyed strolling around shops with her looking at all the beautiful patterns and finished works. She swears though that I have an 'eye' for a good pattern, which I think is just flattery because otherwise why would I go? No matter. So it's no surprise that on our beautiful spring Hooky Day that we would go by a needlepoint shop. Scrim Discovery is tucked away on a side street off the main 'drag' of Ocean City - 9th Street AKA where you come in off the main bridge to the island. You enter through a lovely awning covered porch of a mixed retail/commercial building - they share their building with a plumbing business. Inside there are needlepoint patterns all over, some even on the ceiling. They're more or less grouped by theme, with an area decorated like Christmas, beach themes, some other patterns, sports, etc. They have a framing area and a section devoted to threads and needles. The store is clean and bright, and there are some comfy chairs for people to sit and do their work in if they like too. The owner is a woman who clearly understands and loves needlepoint, so much so that she told us that this doesn't even feel like a job to her, at the end of the day she almost doesn't want to leave. It shows in the way she's curated and merchandised her store and the service she provides. FDC chose some beautiful hand painted designs to work on, and we were sent off with good wishes and smiles. The prices are in-line with what she expects to pay for hand painted quality patterns. I'm certain we will be back.

We always get an ornament when we travel someplace new and this is where we found our ornament for Sea Isle. They had some unique items that didn't just look like your typical ornament. Would definitely recommend stopping in and checking the place out if you are in the area!

Wow, so there's an art gallery amongst the chaos and crazy of Atlantic City. This is a phenomenal…read moreway to spend some time and enjoy some cool AC. I was aware of the Arts Garage by the outlets but went to the Noyes Arts Garage located in Claridge for this first time on Saturday. They had several sections filled with art collections from a bunch of different artists. The main room was huge and there was also an upstairs and downstairs section. The Claridge used to be a casino, so I think this area used to be a convention hall. While it's not a museum, if you took your time to look at each piece, you should easily kill a few hours. The collections varied, giving a little something for everyone. It looks like certain collections and exhibits are only there a certain amount of time. It's free to the public, and open until 7pm daily. I'm so impressed that this gallery is here and recommend anyone in AC looking for a break from the slots and parties, to get there art on at Noyes.

The only thing is because they don't own their own parking lot you and they are part of the Outlet Parking garage, you still have to pay for parking. I feel like if they gave those who visit the museum free parking there would be more people visiting it, it was basically a ghost town in there. The place is still cluttered and you don't know if something's part of the art display or not. I feel like they need to invest more on their signage because most of the art pieces are described on a piece of paper printed out and taped onto the wall. Barely any of the artwork have the dates on them, which I feel is an important part to the art, especially if you're going for a school assignment. Overall it needs to be reorganized and although it's a free art museum to go to, the parking fee makes it difficult for people to even want to go there. They do however have a deal for if you spend $25 you get free parking, but that doesn't entice people to come. Workers are extremely nice and very informative. But I feel like with the city being as vacant as it is, this museum won't survive for much longer without more crowd to it. This is extremely sad especially since it's a school funded museum and as a local I want the city in general to thrive.
