Nathan H Pekar, MD - Dr Pekar

Nathan H Pekar, MD

Please avoid Dr. Nathan Pekar if you have any interest in living a quality life. He has been among…read morethe worst doctor's that I have ever had the misfortune to have dealt with for the following reasons: - Rushes the appointment - General disinterest - Does NOT fill your prescriptions In my initial appointment with him, he attempt to make an effort at listening to me however the entire appointment felt extremely rushed and he made nearly every attempt to end it within 10-15 minutes. Following this, it was nearly impossible to get a prescription filled by him to the point that in the last two months, my prescriptions were filled by other doctor's (despite significant efforts including calls, online messages in the portal, and online messages on the Victory Medical Klarna messenger ranging from 10 days up to day of). The staff was also deeply unhelpful, letting me know that in order to get my prescription refilled, I should use the online portal, but if I sent in my prescription request earlier than 5 business days, then it would be ignored. If I sent in later than 5 business days, it was also likely to be ignored. And when I did send it in 5 business days, it was still ignored. I have left several online messages, following up each day, in an attempt to just get a response, and in the past few months I have received none. And god forbid you have multiple prescriptions, because Dr. Pekar will maybe fill one prescription and completely ignore the others. They also look to charge your insurance as much as possible. By state law, practices can but are not required to drug test you for controlled prescriptions. Most doctors range somewhere between once to twice a year. Dr. Pekar will force you into doing a drug test EVERY month. So, not only is he an uncaring and lazy doctor, he also wants to take as much money from you and your insurance by pushing needless tests on you as often as possible. In sum, please do NOT see Dr. Pekar if you want quality care.

From the minute I stepped foot the entire staff was welcoming and friendly, made the entire experience fantastic. Dr. Pekar himself makes you feel like you've known him forever and has fantastic medical advice and really listens to your concerns. The facility is lovely, clean, and has loads of parking (something I always worry about) and there is a pharmacy for convenience right downstairs in case you need the prescription directly following your appointment! Highly recommend!

I had a sciatic nerve injury at my job that had healed after a month off and I just needed a doctors note to return to work. I called around to a few different places after searching for inexpensive doctors in Austin. This place was the most expensive. They were going to charge me around $190 for a 5 minute appointment. I went to Premier Family Physicians...walked out the door with a doctors note for $80 after being checked thoroughly.

He is also the only doctor I have ever had that does not act like he needs to be somewhere else. When you are in his office he is absolutely present with you and will answer any and all questions. I bring in a long list of questions for checkups and he has always been very thorough and very patient in answering every one of them. I had a recent health scare and he was very reassuring yet straightforward about possible results for some extended bloodwork and what we would do in a worst-case scenario. My problem with doctors in the past is that they would be very dismissive or just plain scary with no counseling skills. You know you have a good doctor when you think about getting a diagnosis for a nasty disease and you think, "Well, at least Dr. Brode would be the one to tell me..." The first review is also spot-on. I told him I was breastfeeding when my daughter was two years old and he said, "Whoa. You're a rock star."

I really appreciated the extra effort & thought put into the decoration of the mammogram exam room. It was decked out in pink decor, including soft pink lighting that created a peaceful atmosphere & had a calming effect as you're getting your mammogram done. There was also pink decor displayed that reminded you of the importance of getting regular mammograms done for early detection of breast cancer. I didn't have to wait long in the patient waiting lobby before getting called back to get my mammogram done & the mammogram took about 30 mins or so. My results were sent to me afterwards through my ARC My Chart account after the doctor reviewed them. A few helpful tidbits about this ARC location: - - mammogram services located in the building closest to hwy 3828, 1st floor - - private parking lot for patients Till next time!

I've been seeing Dr. Babcock for years and he is really an excellent doctor and I hate having to switch from him. However, SAMC recently switched to One Medical (Amazon), meaning you have to pay a $200 subscription to even be able to read messages from the doctor, book an appointment, view/ refill prescriptions, etc. You can get a 'free' version if you're ok with being on hold for half a day but all that gets you is the ability to login and view messages when you owe them money... not doctors messages. They no longer have a direct number to call even though there's usually 2/3 people working at the desk every time I've been in there. This is truly saddening as again, Dr. Babcock has been a great doctor for me but this model is truly terrible. As bad as health care is in the US I can't believe we're straying even further in the wrong direction with subscription based health care! When I told a rep I did not want to pay for the app she tried to sell me an Amazon Prime account because there's a discount...

Well-run office with diligent attention to detail--COVID-19 care has been well-run, with due concern for everyone's safety. Never had a problem with parking; office is well set up. Exam rooms are clean and well-equipped. Blood can be drawn on-site. I rarely, if ever, have had to wait long before my appointment time; I'm surprised, as medical problems don't necessarily fit into nice reliable blocks of time. Getting through to talk to reception can be a challenge at peak times--but I suppose that is true with any office.
