He Pulled the nerve for me, which was an inexpensive fix and I went back to college to find the cash for my root canal. Saved my molar when others wanted to just extract it! Fillings, root canals and caps! He is a caring , thoughtful and gentle doctor. And I'm lucky to have found him . They even have parking round back! I can't say that he will do the same for you I can just tell you what he's done for me. And he's changed my life with the dental work that he's done. For a very reasonable amount of money.

The trauma was such as a child that my mother would never tell me when we were going to the dentist. However, when we turned that corner and realization struck of our destination all hell would break loose. I would scream all the way to the dentist, in the dentist office, on the dentist chair and all during the appointment until we left and I was sure we were not going back. My phobia for the dentist did not improve through the years and my reluctance impeded my ability to do preventative oral care. I visited the dentist only when I had no other alternatives. Hence my visit with Dr. Nguyen on September 8, 2017, I. Had. No. Choice. I developed an infection in a broken root canal. The infection further advanced into a fistula and erupted draining into my mouth. To say I was in pain doesn't cover the half of it. The teeth had to be extracted, it could not be saved. Dr. Dang another fabulous dentist who did my initial exam referred me to Dr. Nguyen. Dr. Tom Manh Nguyen was fantastic. Number one, he listened while I blah blah about being terrified. He took the time to explain the procedure step by step. He told me what to expect in terms of discomfort. I elected to use laughing gas (nitrous oxide gas) and forgo Anesthesia which was too expensive. Dr. Nguyen went so far as to explain what the laughing gas will do, how it would feel. The only thing i felt was a slight pressure from the needle into the gum after that nothing. I know he was working on my mouth because i was conscious and could hear everything. He would reassure me periodically, "you are doing fine," "you are doing a good job," and will ask intermittently how I was doing. When he was finished I was surprised. I asked incredulously, "you're done?" He smiled and says, "Yes, I am all done." To say I was impressed would be an understatement. I sat through that whole procedure without a peep. I was able to get up with no pain and take myself home on the subway! Am I singing Dr. Nguyen praises, hell yeah! He did a fantastic job. Most doctors don't realize that outside of their procedures how they handle the patient is everything. You go in scared out of your mind and it does a world of good when you encounter a doctor that can reach you on that human level and let you know you will be alright. So if you have a phobia like I did and scared spit-less like I was then get a referral to Dr. Nguyen at Bloor Dufferin Dental on 1108 Bloor West, he'll take good care of you. My husband insisted that I needed to go and found a local clinic, Brock North. "Don't worry," he said,"I'll be there holding your hand the whole time." Dr. Fernandez was very supportive and understanding of my panic (the result of a lifetime of truly horrible dental experiences). He told me that I needed a root canal, and I screamed (according to my husband), "Just pull it out!!." He insisted on saving the tooth. The root canal, 16 years later, is still brilliant. And 16 years later, I am still a patient. They didn't have any problem with my husband joining me for my appointments during the first four years, and my husband, son and daughter also became clients of Brock North Dental. All I can say is Thank You, Brock North Dental and Dr. Fernandez. For anyone with any fear of dentists, I urge you to give Brock North Dental a try. It's not scary, I promise! Also, Dr. Fernandez set me up with a great dental hygienist, named Donna, and the receptionists know that she generally does all of my cleanings. Donna is not only a great hygienist, but also an interesting and compassionate person. While my teeth are aesthetically straight, I always had a hunch that my alignment was off and she was the first to point it out and the reasons behind, giving me a referral to another specialist as a health concern, rather than for aesthetics. I feel like most dentists try to sell you on additional treatments just to make extra money but she really seems to bring out concerns I had for a while and explain what options I have. She is very knowledgeable compare to the dentists I've tried in the past through gift card recommendations on sign up. She was kind to do my first dental cleaning as well as the consultation. While it could be because the dental hygienist couldn't make it to the shift, she explained she actually enjoyed doing it for the first appointment, so she can assess the teeth closer. She's really personable and easy to talk to and learned a lot about how she got in the business and her family. I'm sure she can put even those most reluctant at ease. The clinic also follows full COVID protocols, you'll have to sign forms online/in-person. Pens are sanitized between uses. Appropriate barriers are in place. They also followed up with me and asked if I have developed any COVID symptoms since I've visited. I wish they had an automatic charge on my insurance like some other health providers. That would've saved me the trouble of dealing with admin work of submitting my receipts.

I asked for a second opinion from other dentists regarding some of the procedures which they said no to. When I brought this up to the dentist, I was essentially told "oh, what do they know". If you are ok to tell them that you don't want these extra things done and please don't ask again, you will have a great experience.

The…read morewaiting area was very simple and friendly and the dental working area was filled with pictures of cute children and artistic photography. Dr. Parnes was not wearing a white lab coat, which gave him a very down to earth feel and he talked to me as if I was his equal and not in any way, talking down to a patient as I have had done by previous dentist who have lectured me about flossing and such. He was very thorough with my check-up and his prices are very reasonable! He also treats a wide range of patients, including a lot of immigrants from various countries and people with disabilities. His receptionist is very relaxed and non-pretentious and same thing for his dental assistant. The phones are always answered and I rarely get the answering machine. They are very sensitive to dental emergencies and try to fit people in as much as they can, though there may be a few weeks wait, unless you are put on the cancellation list. I waited about 15 minutes after my appointment and was guided in, so not too much of a time delay compared to other places I've been. I was worried about having a lot of dental work needed, but he was honest and told me that my teeth looked mostly fine (with a few things he could do if I needed it - sealant for my wisdoms to keep bacteria out) and that I just may need to change my stinky old night guard (as per my own request), which he could make the soft one for 45$... man, so reasonable!!! He also called me the same evening (himself and not his secretary) to let me know that my x-rays looked fine and I had nothing to worry about - who does that in this day and age? - what a responsible and approachable professional! I called a head asking for prices and if my insurance fully covered teeth cleaning. The current place I visited had full coverage, I didn't have to pay anything at all. I told the receptionist this. The receptionist at this dentist office confirmed to me that I had full coverage for dental cleaning and procedures at their clinic too and I did not need to pay anything when I visit. So I decided to get my teeth cleaned here. On the day of my appointment, I didn't fill out any forms before getting my teethed cleaned. I filled out the forms after my teeth were cleaned. The hygienist and receptionist was really pushy with making me get my X-rays done even though I told her I would like to only get the X-ray to check for wisdom teeth. I did not want to get the X-ray for cavities as I already took them at my other dentist a few months back. She proceeded with the cleaning but I felt like she didn't clean my teeth well. She would scrape a little and then rinse and then scrape and rinse some more. I felt like she spent most of the time rinsing and sucking out the water rather than actually cleaning my teeth. Overall, my teeth did not feel as clean as expected when you visit a dentist. Besides that, when I was done. The secretary made me fill out all the necessary forms and then charged me for the cleaning. I was not expecting this because when I called a week prior to my appointment they told me that my insurance fully covers the cleaning like my dental hygienist and I did not need to pay anything. The secretary told me the plan changed, but my insurance goes by yearly. So clearly they lied to me. There's no way that my plan changed in a week. They obviously are not full coverage but state they are. Pretty much lied to me and tricked me into coming to get my teeth cleaned here and the charging me. I even brought my boyfriend to get his teeth cleaned here too. In the end, I ended up paying around $70, on top of that they also charged my insurance. My boyfriend ended up paying around $80. I tried talking to the manger but she was not in that day. So my mom called to complain for me a few days later because it was their mistake. The manager offered to send me a credit. It's been about month or more since then. However the credit of about $70 never came in the mail. Clearly this place is a SCAM. The people here are not honest or trustworthy.
