In general, my travels have found that the really good places require effort to find in the UK. Coal Grill & Bar was a surprising change from these sometimes scary ventures in which I've gotten lost more than once... This place is either in or near the mall (can't quite recall anymore), so my expectations were low. For any American readers - I was expecting a British version of TGI Fridays or Applebee's so I was just hoping to find something worth eating after a long flight in. To my surprise... it was pretty darn delectable! We ordered the firesticks - I think we tried all flavors except the tiger prawns and were super happy with our choice. You can mix & match to try different flavors, which makes it fun if you're a bit of a foodie. The blue cheese sauce was AWESOME. This was in December so there were plenty of holiday parties going on, the place was busy but maintained quality service and all parties were well taken care of. My friend had the 6oz beef, Cheddar and onion rings which look equally delicious and somewhat mouth watering! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the service was faultless. I really like the decor, clean, crisp and modern with no gimmicks which is a refreshing change to some other burger places around. They have an out side decked sitting area at the front, which considering this place is on a bustling high street really catches your eye and quiet inviting. I selected the Small Farmhouse breakfast which consisted of sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, mushrooms, baked beans and a slice of toast with butter and jam. My husband selected the Farmhouse breakfast which had the same ingredients but twice as much. Of special note are the sausages which were very meaty and that the breakfast was cooked to perfection with none of the grease that can often be present. They also serve a full range of hot drinks so I was able to select a decaf latte. The menu includes some sandwich-type options and there were a few scones etc. for those who don't have our appetites. We arrived soon after they opened so only about 4 tables were already filled, so I cannot speak to service speed when they are busy, but they looked to have plenty of staff on duty.
