The food was pretty good. I got the vegetable rolls, egg rolls, and the firework sushi roll. My husband ordered the chicken hibachi. His hibachi was a bit watery and had way too much squash in proportion to the chicken and rice. No complaints on my end. read more

I was so excited to visit Ginger Cafe for the 2nd time today (this time I placed an order to go). 15 minutes after 3pm on a Saturday; two couples dining in & myself. Such horrible customer service! Erica handled my transaction but not before ignoring me completely to answer a text message & immediately did the same after my transaction. As I sit near the entrance (across from her) I can clearly hear her discuss the method of payment used from one of the couples that dined in. & made it very clear to her fellow coworkers that they "tipped really good". Such a shame this wonderful establishment with amazing food loses value due to poor customer service. Lesson learned: next time I will call in my order. Ordered two lunch bento boxes (kung pao & sesame chicken) & we enjoyed them. A little sad that they didn't have brown rice but still devoured our food nonetheless. We agreed that it wasn't the best dishes we ordered but it's a decent place for lunch in the Atascocita area. Chicken was freshly fried & the sauces were flavored. The food cane out piping hot. They have updated the place and enlarged it. The interior is now easily 4 times bigger. The food has changed ever so slightly in that they have pulled a few combinations apart, like veg tempura and shrimp tempura. Other than that, the food is the same wonderful food. I missed it while they were closed for remodeling. The only drawback to the remodel is that now they are churning a lot more food out of what may be the same sized kitchen and the help is not as fast on the draw as they were when there were 6 tables. BUT, they are improving. I hope the trend continues. This is still the "default" place for my hub and I to go to eat. We know it will be good, the people will be nice, and we will leave happy. Ginger is a hole in the wall in a strip shopping center that is always, always busy. Five tables and the sushi bar inside, three or four tables outside (who the heck eats outside in Houston?). So we try to go at odd times. They have excellent sushi and some darn good Chinese food as well. Our go to joint for when we don't feel like cooking. read more

The food was really just OK. I had the orange chicken Bento box and the orange chicken was very soggy. The flavor of the chicken was ok but the sauce had a slight manufactured taste. The wonton soup was good and the appetizer of fried calamari was just OK. read more

Hard to find a good Chinese food place around here in my opinion. There's a lot of cheap choices that are made from cheap ingredients and seemed to be covered in msg or just deep fried. Ginger Cafe is different. Everything here was fresh and awesome. The miso soup had a robust flavor. The crab wantons were delicious and taste house made. We decided on the banto bowls. I had the sweet and sour and my wife had the general tsos. Both were phenomenal. The rice was nice and fluffy, the sweet and sour chicken was very fresh and had no complaints. The restaurant was very clean and had a light music playing in the background. Everything looked modern and the service was right on time. The wait staff put our food in front of us with perfect timing. 5 stars, will be back. read more

We recently moved to Humble and working our way to discovering our neighborhood. Ginger Cafe had high recommendations through our Nextdoor app. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked it, comfort feel to it, welcoming, casual decor but nice. Friendly staff. Erica our waitress was very knowledgeable with the menu. We ordered 4 salmon skin hand rolls, asked if they can put masago (fish eggs) inside, they were happy to oblige. Wish they had the right stuff to make it the way we love but small steps. Forgot names for the two other rolls we ordered, but it was really good. Will update this review once I remember the names. Ordered General Tso chicken to go for our daughter, it came with white or fried rice, egg roll, and salad. Their rolls are not big full of rice, overall it was a good ratio, tasty sushi rice. I'm new to the West lake Houston/Atascocita area and was in the middle of moving when my stomach started speaking to me. I started asking friends what they recommend in the area and Ginger Cafe seemed to be number one spot so I had to try it of course. Ginger cafes menu consist of Asian inspired rice and noddle dishes and they also make sushi. I ordered the Japanese fried rice which has smoked salmon, crab and shrimp. The rice was a bit salty for my taste I guess it was seasoned with just a tad too much soy sauce but the seafood was fresh. I also ordered a volcano roll and the Houston maki which contains spicy tuna. I won't go out of my way saying it was excellent because it wasn't. The volcano rolls were as big as nickels. The Houston maki although average sized just Tasted average as well. If I have to say one thing is that customer service was great. From my call all the way to pick up everything went smoothly. For its convenience and good service I can see myself returning to Ginger Cafe. read more

I tried this because it was voted Top 5 Humble-Area Restaurants. Incredible food, just.. everything. I go here at least once a week, even through Covid-19. Always busy. It's basically an Asian Fusion restaurant with a Japanese menu (and sushi) and Chinese. The Bento Box is always great. I am addicted to their sesame dressing on the salad (I asked, but they don't sell it by the bottle). People come from miles just for the sushi (lots of variety and always fresh, plus you can watch them make it). Overall, this is a real gem in Atascocita. read more

Thanks to Mel's review, I finally found a restaurant that I don't have to drive downtown for that has awesome Chinese food. I have been craving hot and sour soup lately and had to check this place out. This restaurant was the purfect solution to my craving. I think I could've drank a bucket of the soup, it had the perfect level of heat and that twing of sour with a flavorful mix of vegetables and tofu. They know how to balance the combination of hot,sour,salty,and sweet! I rounded my meal out with the other cravable appetizers including an amazing eggroll, crab wontons, and my all-time favorite of crispy and chewy potstickers. Perfect! This place is small and unique with such a wide range of flavorful and satisfying dishes! I almost didn't wanted to review it, because I wanted to keep it to myself. Having just moved to Houston from New York City, I'm always trying to scout out unique good little spots here. I live inside the loop, but I made the trek out to Humble the other day to visit with a friend. We met up for lunch at Ginger Cafe. Ginger Cafe is a little Japanese restaurant that is pretty comparable to the little Japanese restaurants you see littered all over New York City. Their lunch specials are on par with NYC's, as is the (great) food quality. Regardless, there are a few very specific things that make Ginger Cafe a slight notch better than all the others in my book. So read on! 1. The Sushi Roll Combo Lunch Special The 2 roll combo (at a standard, inexpensive $8.49) includes a side salad with that delicious ginger dressing we all know and love (seriously, what do they put in that stuff?!) AND a miso soup. Not to be confused with OR a miso soup. And. As in both. And to top it off? Lunch is served EVERY DAY. That means Saturdays and Sundays. Maybe this is completely normal for Houston, but it is very hard to wrap my fresh-off-the-NYC-boat brain around what is happening here. 2. The Hot Teas they serve you are GINORMOUS Yes, I ordered hot tea in Houston in July. Guilty as charged! But you don't understand - I will literally die if I have sushi without hot tea or sake. And, as I was having an adult lunch in the suburbs, a small part of my brain managed to do its job and fire a signal to me that said No! Sake isn't a good option for 12:30 on a Sunday!! (Thanks brain!) So I went with tea. And it was the largest mug 'o tea I've ever seen in a Japanese restaurant. Mind blown. So even though their seaweed salads are minuscule, the extra large teas definitely make up for it. 3. Their Amazing Crunch Stuff You know how when you ask the wait staff at Japanese places to add "crunchy" to your sushi rolls, you get standard bits of fried stuff on top? Not so with Ginger Cafe! I have NO idea what it is they do that is so different, but their crunch stuff is incredible. It's crunchy, but moist, and so much more flavorful than the normal crispy stuff. It is a complete mystery to me, but believe me when I say it is pure magic in every bite. 4. Their peppered salmon WHOA. This was the first time I noticed this on the menu (or any sushi menu for that matter), so I ordered 3 pieces of peppered salmon sushi. Ohmygodsogood. It was an absolute delectable party in my mouth. The next time I'm there, I'm ordering 27 pieces of it, promptly getting some sort of mercury poisoning, and never looking back. If you're a sushi fan, and you find yourself in the Humble area, Ginger Cafe is definitely a great place to go. Especially if you're wanting to catch up with a dear friend whom you haven't seen in a while. With all of the chain restaurants around (I mean, don't get me wrong, I could without a doubt live at Chili's if given the option and metabolism), this quiet, small, privately-owned establishment with a very friendly staff is definitely worth a visit. My husband and I absolutely love Ginger Cafe. At one point, I was eating here once a week because I would crave sushi. Now I am no sushi connoisseur, however, I think this is some of the best sushi I have had in the Houston area. The fish is always fresh and the presentation is nice. The waitstaff is always friendly and attentive. This place is very small (5 or 6 tables and a sushi bar) but we like this about the place. I LOVE this place. I take my friends to eat here all the time whenever they come around my part of town! It is the best place when we are craving asian food without having to go all the way downtown for quality food! Yes, we would drive all the way downtown just to eat good asian food until I found this place! Their Chinese and Japanese selections are both great. Neither of them lack in what I have tried, though I typically buy from the Japanese selections. The service is great in my opinion. I frequent asian restaurants however, and their service seems to lean more toward allowing you to enjoy your meal in peace instead of being the Alfred to your Batman. I've gone when they are on their laptops too, and simply by making eye contact, they were quick to my table. We have been going to Ginger Cafe since we moved to Atascocita in 2006. We also been to 838 and Wazabi, which are also good, but Ginger is our favorite out of the 3. First, there is a great selection of sushi, sashimi and rolls that are freshly made. Second, for those that aren't into sushi, there is a good selection of bento boxes, tempura dishes, etc. Back to the sushi... the three things I look for when I eat sushi are: must be odorless, the color of the fish must be vibrant and the taste must be "fishy" but not sour. In all the years I've been going to Ginger, sushi meets that criteria. Hand crafted by a Japanese Itame. With the renovation/expansion, Ginger is now a bit fancier than what is was... perfect for casual dining or to celebrate a special occasion. The service is very good... prompt and polite.
