Gilbert did an incredible job on my 93 1/2 year old Godmother's four black vinyl kitchen chairs! She had no idea how to restore them or if it could even be done so I went online to find someone reputable and local. I was so lucky to come upon Gilbert's company. He took the time to listen when I called, looked at the photos I emailed him and confirmed he could put new vinyl similar fabric on the cushions. They came out beautifully and my Godmother was thrilled. Honestly, my 10 year old son saw them right before my Godmother and I don't know who was more excited, him or her. Gilbert is extremely professional and he treats you like a friend, not a customer. I wish I could give him ten stars! I am going to have him reupholster our three Pier 1 barstools that are sadly covered with bonded leather and have started cracking. I know Gilbert will restore them beautifully as well! I needed to have two banquette cushions redone. The last time I had them made the company that did them did a terrible job and I have been struggling with these two cushions ever since. I called two companies this time: one in my area (outside of SF) and Gil's. The company outside of SF wanted a small fortune just to come measure and the same fortune to "install them". Gil came across town and measured, gave me a ball park price while there and was professional and very nice. The cushions were completed in a reasonable amount of time. I picked them up this morning and "installed" them myself. Gil had mounted them on boards and added commercial velcro to the bottom. He made them firm ( as they should be) with piping all around the edges. He did a beautiful job ! They look great, fit the space perfectly and his price was very reasonable. My dog, with whom I typically have a great relationship, decided the foam cushion of my ligne roset sectional had suddenly turned into an 8 foot squeaky toy. We had removed the upholstery for cleaning and left the cushions at "dog toy" level. We thought the sofa was ruined- at least requiring ordering a new cushion and waiting the 4 months for delivery from France. I called Gil, asking if he sold wadding so I might try one attempt to resurrect. Gil promptly replied to come by his shop and he'll help me out. 15 minutes later, this incredibly kind man gave me a tutorial how to repair the cushion, plus he gave cotton fill for the torn foam, wadding to recover, and webbing glue to hold it together (correctly). I wouldn't have known how to do any of this. Gil wished me a Happy New Years - and wouldn't accept any money. The sofa is repaired, my relationship with my dog is improving and my belief that kind-hearted generosity exists in SF has been renewed. Thank you Gil. Happy New Year! read more

I had a full wall of tall plain closet doors. I found a picture on pinterest of doors that I liked and basically asked Anthony and his family to make something similar to it. I wanted the doors upholstered in fabric and then outlined in nail heads. I gave them the fabric, selected nail heads from their inventory and purchased my own door handle. I can't tell you how beautiful the doors turned out. Better than I expected. Every detail was perfectly executed and at a better price than other companies. They even went the extra mile to cover the back of the doors so that they would look pretty when I open them. Absolutely fantastic. After arranging a visit via emails with a very patient Julia, Gil took a few minutes from a busy day to look over a leather cushion with a one inch rip right in the center. I already had estimates ranging from $200 to $500 elsewhere. He suggested lots of options at other repair places, warning me that prices would be high. He offered to do a quick fix to seal the rip and prevent padding from further escaping. Estimated $40. He finished the job by the next day, a Saturday (!), and charged me only 20 bucks. Yeah, the rip is still detectable (barely) but the chair is even MORE comfortable now (padding improved) and I'm reading travel books for three hours a day in a $2K Restoration Hardware leather arm chair that cost me $300 on craigslist with a $20 repair at Gil's. With what I saved, I figure I've got the cost of a round trip airfare covered as nicely as my cushion. read more

The work was not done they way it should be - we have to re-do whatever they messed up. Communications was horrible, they simple ignore your call/emails/text. They brought the furniture 3 times (saying it was done) and 3 times we sent it back. Finally, to get at least something back we visited their shop 4 times to check their work. We started the project in early February and got back our badly made furniture in the middle of July. read more

Gil's upholstery did a GREAT job reupholstering our four 1920's dining room chairs. Gil recommended the PERFECT material -- which he had on hand and provided free of charge. The print he recommended was lovely - it complemented the tone of the wood and the period of the pieces. We live in a 1920's house so this was important to me. It is funny to say, but our antique chairs look new again. The seating (with all new padding) are comfortable & the fabric looks perfect --perfectly smooth & all the chairs match exactly because of how he lined up the pattern. They also waxed & fixed up the wood which made a huge difference. They also corrected some imperfections in the wood. The wood of the chairs now looks as wonderful as the seat cushions! My husband loves how they are redone and noted that the chairs are 'sturdier' than before. I'm impressed with Gil's operstion. He and his sons and other employees work very hard and take great pride in doing a fabulous job. I recommend Gil's upholstery highly.
