Super friendly and very flexible. Walked in and was able to get a reasonable quote and a quick turnaround. When original pick up date didn't work, he made himself available outside his normal business hours to accommodate. The reupholstery turned out great! Also, he provided an added service of cleaning and polishing the wood. I highly recommend - great work, awesome service, and best prices! read more

Gil did an amazing job on my bedroom design. I brought him the picture of the headboard, bed frame and frame for my mirrors. I wanted him to make back in October 2020. He did a professional job. Gilbert - one of the nicest people EVER! We had a slipper chair, needed to be reupholstered. Called Gil's, sent photos and measurements. He's THAT good, he can quote from photos!!! Very reasonable price for upholstery. Long story short, dropped off the leather and the chair. Gave the time frame 4 - 6 weeks, super common especially these days. He got it done in 4 weeks, can't complain and it looks awesome!! read more

Gil's Upholstery needs a shout out to the community. A true artisan with a passion for what he does! His prices were so reasonable I couldn't believe it, but I think he works for the art of making old things beautiful and not just for money. A rare find. Gil is a friendly guy too. read more

Refinished a couple of tired looking McGuire chairs. Gilbert provided some fabric to nicely complement both. Gilbert even came up with a nifty idea to attached the back cushion to the smaller chair, rather than stapling the crap out of the frame as it was originally done by the manufacturer. His work was top notch as always and will continue to highly recommend his services! read more

Great work AND Gil is a super nice guy... great level of appreciation for mid century stuff. Not exactly speedy but EXCEPTIONALLY conscientious: a rare quality! I feel like this might be long-term-relationship material... ;) read more

Gil's Upholstery is a fantastic family owned business with great customer service and high quality workmanship. Gil's son Anthony was quick to setup an appointment for an estimate, and promptly followed up. Their prices were competitive and lower than another quote we received for the same work. The chairs look like new. The seat cushion on all the chairs is tight and very comfortable, and has a nice trim around the seat. It is beautiful work. AND, they polished up the wood frame as well. Another bonus was that there was no long wait for them to start work on the chairs, and the job was completed within a week. Anthony picked up the chairs, and Gil dropped them off, exactly when scheduled. The family is extremely friendly and easy to work with. I highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again! read more

A San Francisco gem! Can I give six stars? Our 1940s overstuffed chenille sofa with broken springs in the cushions was restored to comfortable and attractive seating by Gil and his crew. Do not be misled by the modest facility. Check out the photos to see the quality and diversity of service offered by this family-owned business. read more

Gilbert did an incredible job on my 93 1/2 year old Godmother's four black vinyl kitchen chairs! She had no idea how to restore them or if it could even be done so I went online to find someone reputable and local. I was so lucky to come upon Gilbert's company. He took the time to listen when I called, looked at the photos I emailed him and confirmed he could put new vinyl similar fabric on the cushions. They came out beautifully and my Godmother was thrilled. Honestly, my 10 year old son saw them right before my Godmother and I don't know who was more excited, him or her. Gilbert is extremely professional and he treats you like a friend, not a customer. I wish I could give him ten stars! I am going to have him reupholster our three Pier 1 barstools that are sadly covered with bonded leather and have started cracking. I know Gilbert will restore them beautifully as well! I highly recommend him and look forward to seeing him in his shop to pick the new fabric. Great guy with great service and we are all thrilled with the end result! read more

Gil's Upholstery saved my huge comfy chair! Prices were better than all the other shops I received quotes from. They didn't try to push the more expensive fabric at the store, and even suggested we check the discount fabric places to see if they had anything we like. My husband wanted to throw this chair away and I am so glad we were able to save it. The chair looks amazing! Gil is one of the nicest guys we have ever met too. Excellent experience, highly recommend. read more

I needed to have two banquette cushions redone. The last time I had them made the company that did them did a terrible job and I have been struggling with these two cushions ever since. I called two companies this time: one in my area (outside of SF) and Gil's. The company outside of SF wanted a small fortune just to come measure and the same fortune to "install them". Gil came across town and measured, gave me a ball park price while there and was professional and very nice. The cushions were completed in a reasonable amount of time. I picked them up this morning and "installed" them myself. Gil had mounted them on boards and added commercial velcro to the bottom. He made them firm ( as they should be) with piping all around the edges. He did a beautiful job ! They look great, fit the space perfectly and his price was very reasonable. Give this guy all your projects! read more

Gil took our beloved, extremely worn, French, turn of last century club chair and returned a beautifully upholstered (with mohair fabric with piping) club chair. He replaced the springs and made minor needed adjustments to the frame. Girl's super reliable and interesting. My dog, with whom I typically have a great relationship, decided the foam cushion of my ligne roset sectional had suddenly turned into an 8 foot squeaky toy. We had removed the upholstery for cleaning and left the cushions at "dog toy" level. We thought the sofa was ruined- at least requiring ordering a new cushion and waiting the 4 months for delivery from France. I called Gil, asking if he sold wadding so I might try one attempt to resurrect. Gil promptly replied to come by his shop and he'll help me out. 15 minutes later, this incredibly kind man gave me a tutorial how to repair the cushion, plus he gave cotton fill for the torn foam, wadding to recover, and webbing glue to hold it together (correctly). I wouldn't have known how to do any of this. Gil wished me a Happy New Years - and wouldn't accept any money. The sofa is repaired, my relationship with my dog is improving and my belief that kind-hearted generosity exists in SF has been renewed. Thank you Gil. Happy New Year! read more

I found Gil's Upholstery on Yelp & I'm so glad I did! Not only are Gil & his team expert upholsterers, they also have "eyes for design" in creating custom-made, one-of-a-kind pieces that are beautiful & unique. We asked Gil to reupholster four large ottomans & we also commissioned him to design & create several custom-made pillows. We couldn't be more pleased with the results! The ottomans & the pillows are beautiful & exactly what we wanted! Craftsmanship & attention to detail are superb. Customer service is stellar. Prices are reasonable. Pick-up & delivery are included. Thank you, Gil's! You saved my old dining room chairs and saved me the cost of replacing them. Our old antique dining room chairs were my husband's pride and joy, but after years of wear and tear, a cross country move and two children, they were looking sad. And feeling wobbly..... like "is this chair going to break if it sit on it" wobbly. Anthony was fantastic and helpful and they did an amazing job - lined up the new fabric just right, put all 6 chairs in working and sturdy order with a quick turnaround. In fact, they did the job TWO YEARS AGO (yes, it has embarrassingly taken me this long to write my yelp review) and the chairs are still holding up perfectly. read more

It is rare that you find a company which lives up to its hype. Gil's Upholstery does that and much more. We had dining room chairs to reupholster. I've never had anything else reupholstered in San Francisco, and had heard stories from friends about the exorbitant price and hassle in working with other SF firms. From the minute I called, I felt very comfortable with this company. They explained the process, discussed the price and invited me to their workroom to see the operation. Our chairs are gorgeous! The work was done promptly, beautifully and economically. I cannot recommend Gil's Upholstery more highly. This is a real find! read more

I had a full wall of tall plain closet doors. I found a picture on pinterest of doors that I liked and basically asked Anthony and his family to make something similar to it. I wanted the doors upholstered in fabric and then outlined in nail heads. I gave them the fabric, selected nail heads from their inventory and purchased my own door handle. I can't tell you how beautiful the doors turned out. Better than I expected. Every detail was perfectly executed and at a better price than other companies. They even went the extra mile to cover the back of the doors so that they would look pretty when I open them. Overall, I was extremely happy with their work and excellent attention to detail. read more

Gilbert reupholstered the seat of a swivel office chair I had purchased at a steep discount ( probably because the original seat fabric was so ugly). I had Gil recreate a banquette I saw on Houzz. After he created the wooden frame he brought it over to my house to see if the size was appropriate as well as overall design - this was before actual cushions or upholstery was done. We decided on a few adjustments and then he completed the work quickly. It took a little longer than his initial estimate but I was extremely pleased with the outcome. read more

Absolutely fantastic. After arranging a visit via emails with a very patient Julia, Gil took a few minutes from a busy day to look over a leather cushion with a one inch rip right in the center. I already had estimates ranging from $200 to $500 elsewhere. He suggested lots of options at other repair places, warning me that prices would be high. He offered to do a quick fix to seal the rip and prevent padding from further escaping. Estimated $40. He finished the job by the next day, a Saturday (!), and charged me only 20 bucks. Yeah, the rip is still detectable (barely) but the chair is even MORE comfortable now (padding improved) and I'm reading travel books for three hours a day in a $2K Restoration Hardware leather arm chair that cost me $300 on craigslist with a $20 repair at Gil's. With what I saved, I figure I've got the cost of a round trip airfare covered as nicely as my cushion. read more

The family team at Gil's is fantastic. Quick, easy to work with, and most importantly beautiful work. Would recommend to anyone!

I took 2 antique chairs to Gil's to be reupholstered. I had the fabric I wanted. He did a great job. Both chairs look fab.

The work was not done they way it should be - we have to re-do whatever they messed up. Communications was horrible, they simple ignore your call/emails/text. They brought the furniture 3 times (saying it was done) and 3 times we sent it back. Finally, to get at least something back we visited their shop 4 times to check their work. We started the project in early February and got back our badly made furniture in the middle of July. read more

They did a great job with my 40 year old leather/vinyl/stainless recliner - he told me it would take about a month (he's a little backed up) - it took about6 weeks. But he did a wonderful job, really wanted to do it right - we discussed a couple of solutions ... he found the right solution for this excellent, unique chair! He'll show you what he's doing, takes the time to do it correctly. He does classics, leather, vinyl, fabric, buttons, you name it. read more

Gil's upholstery did a GREAT job reupholstering our four 1920's dining room chairs. Gil recommended the PERFECT material -- which he had on hand and provided free of charge. The print he recommended was lovely - it complemented the tone of the wood and the period of the pieces. We live in a 1920's house so this was important to me. It is funny to say, but our antique chairs look new again. The seating (with all new padding) are comfortable & the fabric looks perfect --perfectly smooth & all the chairs match exactly because of how he lined up the pattern. They also waxed & fixed up the wood which made a huge difference. They also corrected some imperfections in the wood. The wood of the chairs now looks as wonderful as the seat cushions! My husband loves how they are redone and noted that the chairs are 'sturdier' than before. I'm impressed with Gil's operstion. He and his sons and other employees work very hard and take great pride in doing a fabulous job. I recommend Gil's upholstery highly. I am thrilled wit)h the quality (& value) of their work. read more
