I wandered around trying to locate plants, a shopping cart, and gardening gloves without anyone asking if I needed help. The plants and prices were fine, but the lack of basic customer service was surprising, particularly for a smaller, privately owned nursery. I had hoped to find a place I'd enjoy returning to, but unfortunately, that wasn't my experience.

A couple of weeks ago, we sadly said goodbye to our Canary Date Palm that appeared to have…read moresuccumbed to some weird bacteria that's wiping out date palms. Seriously. Who knew? The City of Tampa is giving their date palms antibiotics. I couldn't make this up. Anyway, this GORGEOUS palm of ours, that has been part of my extended family since the mid 1970s, died. Then, one night, it literally fell over. That made us start looking hard for a tree company. We decided that our magnolia - that couldn't decide if it was going to make it another day itself - should be taken out at the same time. We called a few places, and Bill at Sustainable actually came out (one guy literally quoted us a price by looking at our home on Google maps. Wha?) Bill said that he had a job nearby and he could quote us $280. WHA? That included stump grinding on TWO TREES! The guy on Google maps? $800. Which is actually closer to what we were thinking in the first place. But I digress. I was concerned that this price was because Sustainable was one of those 'companies' that drive around knocking on doors and saying they'll remove the tree for a glass of lemonade and a cookie. I asked for their insurance information, and it was sent to me pronto. Yep, they were legit. Three days later, at 8:30 in the morning, I had somewhere between 7 and 542 guys in my front yard removing my trees. But they didn't stop there. The ones that weren't chain sawing were raking! RAKING!! They were removing the limbs that were falling from the magnolia and removing the dead leaves from the palm. I've seen yards before where this stuff was left behind. As an added bonus, they trimmed back our jasmine bush at no charge! SUPER professional, prompt, courteous, and FAST. While my heart still hurts at the loss of my palm, I'm so glad I used Sustainable. Note - they do not remove the mulch, but that is at the bottom of their contract and not a secret. Mulch removal certainly wouldn't be worth the $520 difference from the other company. If you need tree removal, you can't go wrong with these guys. They are AWESOME!

Was told that I would have to wait 3 weeks for a consultation, so I said I just needed a repair, since I knew what the problem was. I was given a date but no time, just told I would get an estimate in my email to approve, but it did not have an exact price in the email, or a time and date. I called again and was told they would get to me when they had time, & were in my area of Palm Harbor. This seems like an inefficient way to conduct business, so I cancelled my appointment, as stating a "same-day consultation" seems like false advertising to me, and not very ethical.

I remained outside the entire time and not a single limb fell in the wrong place! The crew was very diligent in cleaning up my yard afterwards as well. They picked up all big limbs and then raked up leaves and smaller debris, in addition to blowing off the roof with a leaf blower.
