    Crispy rice
    Mark M.

Had a solo res on a Saturday evening. I was quickly greeted and sat down. Very open and inviting indoor seating area. I ordered the crispy rice. Each bit was def crispy and full of flavor. The under carriage had what tasted like a hummus and was also full of flavor. Great complement to the curry rice. The only bummer was no dessert. Would recommend getting a reservation especially if you appreciate farm to table as much as I do!

The chicken biscuit was to die for!

We recently visited Gilchrist Farms for the first time to have brunch. We were super impressed with the beautiful dining rooms, excellent service and absolutely delicious food. I used to have a favorite brunch spot we visited whenever we came up to visit the Traverse city area, but Gilchrist Farms blew that restaurant away. I love that they take reservations, so you don't have to wait around to get a table. Their menu may not be huge, but everything on it looks amazing. My husband & I shared the fried chicken biscuit and the farm plate and we loved them both. My only complaint is that they don't offer brunch more days, so we can eat their more often. Next time we are in town, we'll try their lunch or dinner as well!

My foodie friend and I have our faves, but we enjoy trying new places, too. This place was new to us. My friend tried the pork on chips. I had the chive pancakes. Pricey, but decent portions (sharing sized) and farm to table quality. It's quite nice inside. Service- good, good.

Food is really good and the owners strive to go above and beyond to make your farm to table experience excellent !

Breakfast Sandwich (Sunday Brunch). It was amazing!

This is a great lunch, salad, and or soup spot. It's counter service with self serve drinks. They do deliver the food to your table. We came on Thursday around 12:20 PM and it wasn't too busy. There is a great selection of sandwiches, including a vegan option. They also have an assortment of gluten-free products. We had the Horsin' Around roast beef sandwich, which came with Great Lakes potato chips, the Hummust Have wrap, which also came with chips. We ordered a bowl of the cream of mushroom soup, a cup of the tomato, basil soup, a coffee and soda. All were delicious. The hummus sandwich was more like a Greek salad in a wrap minus the cheese. I would've liked more hummus but then that would make a messy sandwich. The roast beef sandwich had a great flavor. The cream of mushroom soup was full of mushrooms and just needed a little salt for our liking. The tomato basil soup was good, but it tasted more like tomato sauce, heavy on the oregano for me. But again that's personal opinion. Customer service was excellent, the dining room and bathroom were both very clean. Lunch was a bit expensive at $40ish before tax and tip. We will be back. Make sure you stop in for breakfast or lunch when you're in the area!

Consistently so delicious and creative. I also like that they let us share (and gave two plates for us both). It was busy and they gave us a seat on the back porch after 20 min or so without previous reservations. We couldn't reach them by phone; so just went in person. Their soups are my favorite thing. I'd bathe in it. This time was celery root and 5 years ago was parsnip. They have the same base of garlic, onion, cream puréed and just know how to do it. Excellent service each time too! My husband loved the SALAD (which he had never said in his life before) as well as the wagyu steak dish and Butterscotch mousse w/ short bread cookie that was best we have ever had (the chefs step dads recipe). After that they gave an extra little snacky of peanut brittle and pop rock orange like candy. The kimchi fritters were my other favorite dish of the night. Very happy cool place.

I checked yelp and saw mixed reviews- I totally get it now. We sat on the back patio which was quiet and shady. The outdoor bar looked like a great spot to have a beer outside in the shade and my Dad said he probably will stop there again to do that in the fall. The food was incredibly hit or miss. Cherry burger: my husband said "as long as it isn't a burger with three sad cherries on it I bet it will be great". It was a burger with three sad cherries on it! He appreciated that they cooked it properly but was underwhelmed and agreed it was not what he expects from a $22 burger- even in a tourist town. Jambalaya: My Dad loved this even though he said it was too much rice. There were 3 large shrimp and some sausage in it as well. He is truly picky and would order again. Kids noodles: bow ties, good portion. My son loved them. Kids chicken: unusually heavy breading which was borderline burned in the frier on top of tough chicken. I had to peel the breading off for him to eat any of it. Walleye and Morels: the walleye was GREAT. Lightly breaded, moist and flakey. The morel sauce was a miss. Not much flavor and the morels- though quite a few- just weren't that good. Not the best $35 meal I have had by a long shot. The wild grains were all sage and the veggies were extra oily- seems like a seasoning issue more than anything on that plate. Overall I would go back and might even order the walleye again with the sauce on the side and see if I can sub the sides. I also had the lobster bisque and would order that again (but I would ask for bread). May the ordering and seasoning odds be in your favor!

Simply said, do not go to this establishment. This is a long read but based off the owner's…read moreunprofessional, inaccurate and quite frankly, rude reply to a member of our group who gave a, short and sweet, negative review (on Yelp), it feels necessary to catalog the details. We had a Friday evening reservation and a party of 9. We were seated outside on the patio along the back/side fence area. Our server, Sean (who was lovely and doing his best despite his leadership), greeted us, gave menus and went to get us a round of waters. While waiting and looking through the drink menu, two of us immediately smelled hot garbage. It came in waves so we dealt with it for awhile. The table next to us, who were in the process of cashing out, asked if we could smell it and when we replied yes, were told they had been informed it was a dead animal. We tried to ignore the smell since no one else in our group seemed bothered... Meanwhile, one of our group went in to ask if the bartender could make Espresso Martini's and was told yes. We proceed order 7 martinis, 1 Coke and 3 orders of Fries. All of that came out rather quickly. The Espresso Martinis however, were terrible. They tasted like watered-down coffee mixed with vodka. Not everyone can make an Espresso Martini, let alone a good one, which is why we went to ask (reminder: it's ok to say no if you can't do it). Only 3 out of 7 of even drank them and when we commented about how they tasted, our server apologized and asked if we wanted something else, but in the end we were still charged for all of them. Next, we each order our food, while we wait for the food, the smell is progressively getting worse and now everyone at the table, as well as the table seated adjacent to us, are plugging our noses. They ask to be moved and are, we ask next and are told they have to check. (It's worth noting here that we were NEVER offered to move, we asked to be moved - twice.) The other table (a 6 top) that was seated after us, suddenly gets their food. We ask the chef where our food is, as at this point we're well over an hour into this experience, and he says we have a larger group (yes, 9 is more than 6, but not by a landslide) so it's coming. Ok, odd, but sure thing. Our food starts coming and I personally ask whether we can be moved because the smell is overwhelming at this point. Sean, again, says he has to check. At that point everyone had enough and we told them to bring the remainder of food, the bill and to-go boxes. We settled our bill and left immediately. While I can acknowledge it's really no "fault" of anyone's that an overflowing dumpster just behind the patio wall emits a terrible smell, when several tables have complained and are visibly bothered by it, perhaps lying about it being a dead animal and/or continuing to seat people there is not the best idea. With all that said, our food was fine. Nothing wonderful, nothing terrible. It was cold by the time we ate it because we had to take it home to eat it. Even if the food was the best in the world, the experience would have tarnished it regardless. One of the unfortunate parts about all of this was that I was very excited to try this place after hearing great things over the years. Immediately prior to going, I heard from some locals that it had changed ownership/management and had gone downhill since then. With no prior experience, I would say I have to agree. Furthermore, I had started writing a short and sweet not-so-great review the night it happened but another member of our group posted our experience so I canceled it. Now that the owner had replied to that precious post in such a distasteful manner I've decided to write it again and also post it across all my review platforms since he's already accused us of doing so. I have posted our receipt for clarity on what we ordered and look forward to his comment here since he seems get sassy with everyone who leaves any sort of negative review. A word of advice, sir: perhaps your energy would be better spent offering even a half-assed apology about a bad experience and making any attempt at fixing the issues that are brought to your attention to make your customers actually want to come back instead of watching security cameras, checking time stamps and sitting behind an internet review board making snide comments to those customers making us never even consider returning.

The great - the atmosphere was great and the booth we sat on surprisingly comfy. Two had the chicken tender basket 4/5 for one and 5/5 for the other. The perch basket ranked high as well. One had the meatloaf 'sandwich' which arrived more like an open faced hot sandwich. It looked great and got a good review from the friend who had it. The chili was flat out outstanding! Flavorful and just the right amount of spice. Our great server had me taste it right away to make sure the temperature was hot enough. There was a nice variety of draft beer as well. The disappointing - the Bloody Mary. It was a visual masterpiece as you can tell by the attached pictures. The good - both sliders and the fries pickles. The rim was salted with what I describe as fresh everything bagel seasoning and it was really flavorful. The not so good- The onion rings needed more time in the frier as the breading was not very crispy. The bad - the Bloody Mary. Lots of vodka and spice but there wasn't much tomato flavor. I have to say I've never left a Bloody Mary unconsumed until today but I maybe had three sips and it was just bad. Hind site I perhaps should have asked for more tomato juice to add to the drink. As it was I enjoyed the company of friends, great atmosphere and my sliders. We would return again.
