I'm older and have been to many dental office thru the years - and this office is miles ahead. Highly recommend.

After years of hopping from one dentist to the other, I can finally say I have found my FOREVER…read moredentist! Sugar Family Dental is everything I have been looking for - the staff and dentist are super kind, welcoming, gentle and honest! My previous experiences at other offices involved being told that I had multiple cavities and needed expensive deep cleanings. But not here - Dr. Sugar assured me that my teeth were in great shape :) COVID protocols are followed here to a T. They encourage filling out the forms online or through a link sent through a text message, which cuts down on the time filling them out on paper in the office. Once you park, you call the office and come right up with no wait in the waiting room. Everyone is fully masked and gloved, and there is hand sanitizer right at the door. Each room also has its own air purifier machine. Mary was my dental hygienist. She has an incredibly sweet manner and I could tell she knows how to deal with dentist-anxious people, haha! I have a small mouth and active gag reflex so I dread getting X-rays taken, but she was so fast and efficient. What was also great was that they do the X-rays right in your room, so you're not coming in contact with others. You also see each X-ray pop up on a TV screen right in front of you, which I thought was cool. After that, she did an oral health screening (I know this since she talked me though each step!). She checked under my tongue, my throat and felt gently around the lymph node area of my neck. I've never had that done at a dentist office and really liked the extra step in checking! Then came the cleaning. She used a fancy scaler tool which shoots out a tiny stream of water (like a Water Pik) that she said gets into all the crevices of the teeth. She combined this with using the regular metal tools to scrape all the gunk off. My teeth definitely felt EXTRA clean! Oh I almost forgot - during the cleaning she put a pillow under my neck! Such a small step but it made me so much more comfortable. I almost fell asleep at times. Next, I was checked for gum recession (you know when they poke your gums and call out the numbers?). Mary was very thorough, checking multiple spots on each tooth along front and back. After that was the polishing and flossing. I love when they floss for you because I don't like flossing and that's why I have to be good about going to the dentist, lol. Then Dr. Sugar introduced herself (yes, that's really her name!) and checked my teeth again, went over my X-Rays and asked me of any concerns I had. I had already gotten the gentle reminder from the hygienist to floss more so I'm glad Dr. Sugar focused on my concerns (specifically, teeth whitening and the extra clenching I started doing during Covid). I didn't feel rushed or lectured to, which I have in prior offices. She has the kindest demeanor and assured me that me teeth and gums were looking healthy, WOOHOO. No upselling whatsoever! The last part, which I have never before experienced, was that I was offered a HOT TOWEL to clean up! It smelled like lavender and made me feel like I was a celebrity VIP :) THANK YOU Sugar Family Dental. Now I don't have to dread going to the dentist!

Each time I told him that yes I had seen the endodontist who said I did not need a root canal. The third time. I told him I let him know it was the third time he asked me . He shot back with "I can't remember everything about all my patients". Not exactly what a patient really wants to hear. Maybe he should look at patients charts before he sees them. Then he criticized my crowns and said he couldn't believe that they all weren't the same exact color. I tried to explain they were done over the years and then he sent one of his assistance to go get pictures of her boyfriend's crowns he did. . In my opinion, they were so white they were offputting and looked fake. I'm a senior so that really wouldn't work at my age. It would really look fake for me. my first year with this Dentist he did a deep cleaning but It did not feel like a deep cleaning and not because he gave me numbing shots and I did not see any change in my gums.,and then a couple of periodontal cleanings I think his hygienist did one of those. I have since found a new Dentist, and his periodontal cleanings are far superior to this dentists. I could see a change in my gums the next day, following the treatment and by the time I had my second one with the new Dentist. my gums weren't red or inflamed anywhere in my mouth. The Auburn Hair office manager, I believe her name is Betsy was so nice on my first appt.. The first time I was there she came back to mybdentist chair to explain what all would be covered by my dental insurance. But at another visit when I needed a referral for a procedure she grabbed a form and staple something to it, and literally slammed it down on the countertop and said emphatically with emphasis on the word"I" would have to take care of it. That turned out to not be true. She was wrong, but what I couldn't understand was the extreme rudeness, the manner in which she spoke to me, and to literally slam something down on the countertop was shocking. She may still be there, but there's something off balance wrong with this woman . This Dentist , after my first year there, stopped taking my insurance. It was a blessing in disguise because I now have a much better Dentist that I'm very happy with him and his staff and he Is closer to where I live.

I arrived on time and was immediately attended to by a bevy of smiling faces, all so friendly and comforting. Brenda H. Set up the I V for the sedative, yeah, I choose to sleep through the procedure. Brenda definitely had done this before, the I V was painless. As we waited for the Dentist, Brenda showed me some of the supplies that would be used and explained the procedure. This was done in a very relaxed and calm manner, which helped soothe my nerves. Doctor Wilgus arrived and calmly explained what I should expect and how to care for my mouth afterwards. After the sedative was administered we talked for about a minute and I was out. My next recollection was waking after the procedure. Other then feeling a bit groggy, I experienced no pain. In the week following the procedure, today, I've experienced very little discomfort, I was really pleasantly surprised, the procedure I dreaded was over and it wasn't bad at all. Actually, other than eating soft food, it was no big deal. This is the place to go for a case such as mine, you will be pleasantly surprised!

REVIEW: I never, ever, wanted to visit another oral surgeon as long as I lived, but sadly, I had to become a patient here. I was referred to Dr. Wilgus and I could not be more grateful for his care, demeanor, and bedside (chair) manner. My oral surgery was as "good" as could be expected. :) I won't go into the specific details, but I was treated with respect and kindness when I explained my medical PTSD. I was heard. Thank you. (This issue arose after what I would characterize as ineffective treatment by Dr. Siavash of Ventura, whose approach failed to properly set the fracture--resulting instead in a fusion that led to a malunion, and then a second surgery by Dr Fahradyan at VCMC that also seems inadequate.) Dr. Chang's thoughtful guidance and clinical insight were a welcome contrast, and I left the consultation feeling informed and empowered.

Imagine your teeth chipping away only on one side. My husband always felt self-conscious about his smile. Hubby asked Dr. Wallace what he could do about his smile. Dr. Wallace gave him all new teeth. I do not know the technical terms.. idk if they are veneers or caps or?? Hubby's teeth were shaved down to little bits. Then the new teeth were put on over the former teeth. I don't know what this process is called, I simply call it amazing!! When I learn the words, I will update this review. Johnny, my hubby, smiles all of the time. This was a few years ago and this review is long overdue. Johnny also loves Matt Wallace's personality. They both love surfing and have a love of UFOs or X-files. Anyways, Matt Wallace is top notch. No, that's not all!!! Here is my story. My story is about Stacy. Stacy is THE MOST AMAZING DENTAL HYGENIST that ever walked the face of the earth. She only works there on Fridays, I believe. Why is she so amazing, you ask?? I have issues. I gag a lot. I forget to breathe. Perhaps, it is being at the dentist anxiety, IDK. I always feel embarrassed during and after my visits. I still visit the dentist every 6 months even though I have/had this issue. First of all Stacey is calm. If I start to get gaggy, she has me do yoga nose. It is a breathing technique that calms me down. The way that she uses that scraping utensil and the water tool are truly minimally invasive. Prior to Stacey, when the scraping part is occurring it just sounds so loud. The sound is my equivalent to nails on a chalkboard for me. It was a purely god awful sound. Stacy's technique does not come with these awful sound effects. She is calm. She makes me feel calm. She has a TV in the room that is on. It doesn't have sound, it is a way to distract one's self. I don't even need to look at it anymore. When there are chances to chat, we chat about travel. We love hearing about each other's adventures. You are probably thinking, this place cannot get any better.. Well it does. I love the office staff. As I was leaving yesterday, I shared some really great personal news. They all listened intently and cared about me. They clapped, and said they were so happy for me. I had a happy cry. I also love Dr. Liang. He also loves travelling. He is a kind dentist who checks in on me on my Friday visits. SIf you are searching for your new dentists and dental hygienists, this is THE place to go.
