I was really looking forward to the heavy hitter but they're made with sweet plantains instead of green, I think it would have been better with green plantains. The guava and cheese was also good if you like a little sweetness. The King was also good and filling, a little on the greasy side but it is a bigger empanada so it makes sense. Make sure to order ahead so you don't have to wait as long.

The DJ was good, the $20 a person coverage charge was a bit much I would say so that would weigh into me visiting again for the restaurant portion. I also tried the jerk chicken empanada which was good, but the sweet plantain would over power the flavor a bit making it too sweet sometimes. My hunt for delicious empanadas continues this year as I canvas the neighborhood in search for little pockets of joy. I have been meaning to come here for a while, but I have not been able to pin down their exact hours. it was a beautiful breezy Saturday afternoon at the height of spring. My mood was to grab empanadas and sit on the hills of Sunset Park basking in the sunlight. I walked into the shop, which is very tiny and take out only. The ladies working at the counter were super friendly and accommodating, the empanadas were being made fresh and fried right in front of me. I opted for the beef and chicken empanada and asked to sample both of their sauces, they packed them really well in a bag for me and gave me napkins and I only paid $6 for two. An absolute steal If you ask me. The empanadas were fried perfectly, crispy, but not super doughy. The filling was perfect, the chicken filling was a little bit on the dry side, but nothing a little bit of sauce couldn't fix. I did like the beef filling because it wasn't super greasy and was seasoned right. Definitely check them out and I cannot wait to return and try the cheese empanada. Those are usually my favorite.

I rarely do this because I honestly I'm a loyal customer of many local restaurants , BUT.. this…read moresituation is so ridiculous I have to make people aware of . I have been ordering from this place for at least 3 years now if not more , I place the SAME EXACT ORDER every single week at least once or twice a week and I even make the effort to speak Spanish since it's their home language in order to make it easy for them . So here we go , I called again for the 5 thousand time to place the same exact order and the woman on the phone seemed confused even tho I was talking to her in her native language , she out me on hold 3 times to take an one single order , obviously she had NO CLUE about the menu . Fine , I wait for the order and I get something completely different from what I usually order so I called them and explained what happened. The woman on the phone tells me she asked the chef and he sent me the order , so I explained to her that is NOT WHAT I ORDER EVERY WEEK . I even went as far to say they could come and get the food back since we are not eating and all she kept doing was telling me that's what the chef made . Duhhh that's what the chef made but it's not what I ordered . Making a long story short , she didn't offer to fix and send the correct order , she didn't offer me a discount or a credit towards a future order either . With that said sounds like nowadays they send you what the chef decides to cook or what the inexperienced person on the phone understands and not what you actually order . With that said they lost a loyal customer because I will certainly NOT ORDER FROM THERE AGAIN !!! Not to mention so rude on the phone tells. MEVER AGAIN .

The last time…read moreI ordered was back in January because I decided to take a break from ordering out for a while. Today I finally decided to order again, and I even made sure to place the order earlier in the day so everything would be prepared properly and I would receive the full order without any issues. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a big mistake. I ordered my usual combo roast pork, which clearly states on the menu that it comes with rice and beans. However, when I received my order, there were no beans included at all, and the portion of roast pork was extremely small--far less than what should be expected for a combo meal. It honestly looked like barely any pork was included. I'm really not sure how something like this happens, especially when the item is clearly listed as a combo that includes rice and beans. Those are basic components of the meal, and leaving them out completely while also providing such a small portion of the main item is very disappointing. As someone who has ordered from here many times before, this experience is frustrating and disappointing. I made sure to order earlier specifically to avoid issues like this, yet the order still arrived incorrect. For a paying customer, especially a returning one, this level of carelessness is unacceptable. I hope this can be addressed so other customers don't have the same experience.

Truly some of the best empanadas you can eat…read more This past weekend was my second time running into Empanada Papa in the wild. This time, they had a stand up at Strong Rope Brewery in Red Hook, and it's a lifesaving addition over there. The lovely folks behind the stand are warm, welcoming, and ready to give you what you need. And what you need is carnitas. And beef and cheese. And surprisingly, the INCREDIBLE spinach and cheese. This last one kind of stole the show, and I'm almost always a meaty Petey. Basically, pair any empanada with some of their pineapple habanero sauce and you have a serious flavor bomb on your hands. Wash it down with some beer in a giant open, airy room? Perfection. My only concern is that Empanada Papa may have broken up with Empanada Mama? But as New Yorkers, we should just mind our own business, so I'm going to just keep it moving.
