This…read moreis not your typical hole-in-the-wall (that's what Ecuadorian places tend to be and where the best food is) it's a beautiful restaurant you actually want to recommend and brag about. So glad this place exists. The aesthetic is really well done, and the food absolutely delivers. The drinks were just as impressive. I started with the ceviche de camarón, which was fresh and flavorful, but the true standout was the seco de chivo, rich, tender, and packed with flavor. The menu is extensive and diverse, so there's truly something for everyone. I feel like ecuadorian food is so underrated, and this spot does an amazing job showcasing it. Yes, it's in Bayonne, but it's easy to get to and there's plenty of street parking. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

The food was awesome. I ordered the Llapingachos for my meal. It only was the food good but there was plenty of it. No way I was finishing it. It came with steak, fried egg, rice, and the potato patties with peanut butter sauce was great. The salad was also very good. Had the maduros con queso and muchines de yuca for appetizers and both were excellent. The humitas were also excellent. Good hot sauce too. For dessert I tried the Higos con queso (figs with cheese). Very good. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very clean. Overall this place was a hit.

The last time…read moreI ordered was back in January because I decided to take a break from ordering out for a while. Today I finally decided to order again, and I even made sure to place the order earlier in the day so everything would be prepared properly and I would receive the full order without any issues. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a big mistake. I ordered my usual combo roast pork, which clearly states on the menu that it comes with rice and beans. However, when I received my order, there were no beans included at all, and the portion of roast pork was extremely small--far less than what should be expected for a combo meal. It honestly looked like barely any pork was included. I'm really not sure how something like this happens, especially when the item is clearly listed as a combo that includes rice and beans. Those are basic components of the meal, and leaving them out completely while also providing such a small portion of the main item is very disappointing. As someone who has ordered from here many times before, this experience is frustrating and disappointing. I made sure to order earlier specifically to avoid issues like this, yet the order still arrived incorrect. For a paying customer, especially a returning one, this level of carelessness is unacceptable. I hope this can be addressed so other customers don't have the same experience.

I have been ordering from this place for at least 3 years now if not more , I place the SAME EXACT ORDER every single week at least once or twice a week and I even make the effort to speak Spanish since it's their home language in order to make it easy for them . So here we go , I called again for the 5 thousand time to place the same exact order and the woman on the phone seemed confused even tho I was talking to her in her native language , she out me on hold 3 times to take an one single order , obviously she had NO CLUE about the menu . Fine , I wait for the order and I get something completely different from what I usually order so I called them and explained what happened. The woman on the phone tells me she asked the chef and he sent me the order , so I explained to her that is NOT WHAT I ORDER EVERY WEEK . I even went as far to say they could come and get the food back since we are not eating and all she kept doing was telling me that's what the chef made . Duhhh that's what the chef made but it's not what I ordered . Making a long story short , she didn't offer to fix and send the correct order , she didn't offer me a discount or a credit towards a future order either . With that said sounds like nowadays they send you what the chef decides to cook or what the inexperienced person on the phone understands and not what you actually order . With that said they lost a loyal customer because I will certainly NOT ORDER FROM THERE AGAIN !!! Not to mention so rude on the phone tells. MEVER AGAIN .

Since we were big fans of those alcohols, we decided to check it out. The walls of the space were covered in colorful murals with Latin American imagery. There were banquettes along either wall with small tables and ottomans scattered in front of them, providing separate, little areas for each group. Large playing cards were fanned across each table with Jack, Queen, King, and Ace cards each having a menu on its backside. There were bar bites, a spirits list, classic cocktails that could be reimaged with your agave spirit of choice (picture a tequila mojito), and even a custom beverages. The creative drinks were not cheap, coming in at around $20 on average, but they certainly were complex! My La Balacara featured Casamigos Mezcal, spiced pear, Luxardo, orange, ginger, chestnut honey, and a chili tincture. I thought the drink sounded outrageous, but, sadly, all I tasted was that honey, the ingredient of which I was least interested. In fact, the smokiness of the mezcal really did not play well with the chestnut honey, leaving it to taste sort of like licorice. I was not a fan. My companion's El Encanto included Casamigos Cristalino, Lillet Blanc, strawberry-lemongrass cordial, guava, and basil, which sounded herbaceous, but really just tasted like a fancy daiquiri. He enjoyed it, but I found it unimpressive. Our drinks were accompanied by a complementary bowl of spiced popcorn, which was delicious. We had come from an earlier dinner, so the snack was as much as I needed. However, the few larger food items that I saw others order all looked great. While I would go back to Perico to try some other items, I felt like I had had better, more affordable cocktails upstairs at Panela.

The employee who assisted me was very unkind and spoke to me in a disrespectful and demeaning manner, as if I were beneath her. She referenced a previous visit and accused me of having issues with payment. I was confused and calmly offered to make a partial payment, yet instead of handling the situation professionally, she told me to either pay in full or leave the restaurant. I have never been spoken to in such a disrespectful way at any place of business. What upset me most was the complete lack of basic manners and respect. When I attempted to address the situation calmly, she began laughing along with another employee. That behavior was humiliating and deeply insulting. As a Black woman, I felt that I was treated unfairly and spoken down to in a way that carried racial undertones. I am financially stable and did not deserve to be treated in such a dismissive and degrading manner. Because of this experience, I will not be supporting this establishment again. I feel it is important to share this so others--especially people of color--are aware and can make an informed decision before visiting.

Parking can be tricky, I parked halfway down the side street in front of the city park. The place was clean and everybody was friendly. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. It kind of reminded me of a Cantina. Definitely a Latin vibe. The menu was on an iPad, and it was in Spanish, but just by knowing a few words and by the pictures, I knew what I wanted to order. I could've also used the Google translator on my phone, if I wanted to. I ordered the bandeja mixta. Grilled steak, grilled chicken, sausage, blood sausage, rice, beans and sofrito covered potatoes. The food came quickly, and it was delicious. Both the steak and the chicken were tender and had so much flavor. I loved the taste of the Sofrito covered potatoes. The potatoes were just the right texture, and the Sofrito was creamy and delicious. A little bit of the rice, I mixed in with the beans, And it made for a wonderful rice and beans dish. It was definitely a lot of food. I made it through the chicken, steak, the potatoes, and a little bit of rice and beans, and I was stuffed. I took the rest home for later, and it all reheated very well. The sausage was delicious, especially the blood sausage. Yes, it's an acquired taste but I absolutely love blood sausage. The flavor is deep and rich. For all that I got, especially since it was two meals, the price was very reasonable. I would stop back by the next time. I'm on the island. Thank you!
