As they claim their ice cream is a "vacation from the everyday" .... I hadn't heard of Giffords until my recent trip to Maine. When we asked around for a good icecream joint every body had just one thing to say "go to Giffords"... and I'm glad we did. We went for the classic banana split it was so good we liked the bowl ....months later I'm still craving for it and hence writing this review with just one thought in my head. How many more days until summer??

Strawberry cheesecake, black raspberry, Maine lobster tracks, cannoli (left)

Amazing ice cream + great prices! We got 2x 4 scoopers and it came out to be like ~$11 and the scoops were HUGE. The texture itself is perfect for those who love "actually hard" ice cream. Here's a list of everything we got: - Strawberry cheesecake, black raspberry, Maine lobster tracks, cannoli (left) - Maine blueberry, strawberry cake crunch, scoop-a-snack, full quart pretz (right) Flavors we really really really liked: Maine blueberry, strawberry cheesecake, cannoli, full quart pretz

Black raspberry with hot fudge. The best!

Amazing ice cream. Fast service. A Maine classic. The black raspberry with hot fudge has been my favorite for decades.

If it's any indication of how much I love this place, Gifford's officially opened for the season on March 15th and I was there on the 16th. I live in Portland. Gifford's is one of those local ice cream stands that makes getting ice cream anywhere else really tough. It's just that good. The quality of the ice cream, the variety of flavors, and the great staff make it irresistible. Add in the fact that there's a mini golf course sitting next to it and you can't really blame me for going on a weekly basis. It's hard to recommend a flavor. Impossible even. But if you're a coconut fan, the toasted coconut is actual heaven. It's not just coconut ice cream, and it's not just ice cream with coconut in it. It's literally flakes of coconut that have also been covered in chocolate that are then mixed into the ice cream. It's genius! You can try any flavor before you get it and they're always adding new ones to the mix. I'm already itching to come back!

A yummy root beer float and a cool kid's treat.

A classic Maine ice cream stand. No frills, but great and delicious Gifford's ice cream. The ice cream alone is no slouch but they offer a few batting cages and fun yet simple miniature golf course. All affordable and a good time. The ice cream is priced nicely, and the kid's treats are interesting, satisfying, and neat to look at. Why no 5 stars, it would be nice to have French Fries or a vending machine for bottles of water or soda on those especially hot days.

I have been going to Gifford's for decades. I understand there is training happening but I got a 2 scoop and the amount I got was maybe the equivalent of 1 scoop. Everyone in our party was the same. Their ice cream is EXPENSIVE and I expect better. Can't wait for North Street to open.

Where the magic happens.

The employees gave us a very friendly greeting and I asked for some tasting cups. They had plenty of flavors to choose from including some ice cream and gelato flavors! I decided to go with some peanut butter, Irish mint, and coconut since those flavors aren't often at the froyo place near me. The toppings were endless and the fresh fruit looked way better compared to the fruit at the other location chain we go to often. I got some strawberries and peanuts for toppings. However, the best topping they had that is usually hard to find is whipped cream!! And the can is there to put on as much as you want!! It went so well with the strawberry topping! I had plenty of yogurt and the total only came out to a little over 3 bucks. Totally worth it!

I can't believe I hadn't posted this review, I must have left my head at that hotel we stayed at…read morethe night before. The Governor's Restaurant was located in a small town, as we was taking our students to Camp...I knew their had to be a mom and pops dinner in the area. Oh yeah, my palette and saliva co-signed my suspicions. I promise I feel behind because my keen sense of awareness told me to be on the look out for advertisement because I know what I knew. Have y'all ever heard that cops and bus drivers know the best places to eat? FACTS. Oh yeah I was going to find a Dinner like a squirrel looking for nuts. We drop our groups off and he and I approached each other with the same thing in mind...FOOD. Just like twins, we both knew there was a diner somewhere's in that them parts and just like hunters we was after our prey. After we exited the woods our keen sense of knowing what we knew was heighten and without obstruction. Within 2 miles, there was the Governors Diner billboard and off to grandmas house we went. To add to our delight, there was more than enough motorcoach bus parking available. We go in and as always the hostess was relieved it was just us two. We ordered EVERYTHING our stomach craved, the sweet tea made me grin uncontrollably in a sinister type of way. First came out the hot rolls, I told my coworker I didn't want any until he spread the butter across the middle. I don't know what was in those rolls but I ended up eating an entire one knowing the carbs and meal was against my waistline. The food was just as expected of a small town diner including the portion size. When we finally came up for air, just like twins completing each other sentences planned on our return for breakfast the next morning. The price was as expected, service and ambiance the same. They offered deserts on daily special which we could not pass up. The next morning, we was 2nd and 3rd in line patiently waiting for some good ole country breakfast. Of course The Governor's Diner didn't disappoint on their country breakfast, we hurt ourselves and knew it would be a lonnng way back. Have any of you couldn't decide on what to order, so you ask your person what they was going to get? And just when you think you know what to order, they change their order you change yours then you compromise and say ok you get that and I'll get that, gimme some of yours and I'll give you some of mines? That's exactly what we did and yumm to the yumm yummy...happy happy happy. Yes yes yes yes yuuzzzz!

We met two friends there for lunch. This isn't a restaurant per se but rather a sort of cafeteria style deli with a limited menu. They do bring the order to your table, though. They don't offer ice water. Instead, they only sell bottled water that Nestle and other companies buy from us (the public) and then resell back to us for obscene profits. We had coffee. I had trouble finding something I wanted, and settled on the Verni sandwich, which is a meatloaf sandwich. It didn't do much for me as I found the flatbread very hard to chew. If I had been more savvy, I could have asked to substitute ciabatta or some other type of bread. It came with a small bag of Lays chips. My wife had a grilled cheese sandwich she was happy with (I defy anyone to make a.bad grilled cheese sandwich!). One of our friends had a salad, which was huge and the other a sandwich wrap. They also have a display of bakery items. It was all okay, but I don't see us going back as we have too many new untried restaurants and old favorites to go to.
