We love Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital! Our dog is a problem child. She had extreme anxiety when we rescued her, began having seizures shortly after that, and has had a variety of other health concerns. GVH has helped us through all of these concerns with professionalism, expertise, and compassion. When we moved almost an hour away, we started looking for a new vet, and struggled to find anything near the level of service provided at GVH. Other vets were quick to recommend treatments that are not evidence-based, or rushed through exams. At Gibraltar, they've always taken the time to thoroughly examine our girl, explain why they are recommending a treatment, and if there are alternatives. We now make the hour drive to GVH rather than go anywhere else. On top of all of this, they are a Fear Free Practice. As I mentioned, our dog used to have extreme anxiety, especially with going to the vet. With the hard work from the staff, techs, and doctors, she is now able to do most exams (even blood work!) without needing anxiety medication. If I could, I'd give even more stars! read more

This place is bad and I cringe every time I have to drive by it. Their vets are not very knowledgeable and all they seem to care about is the money. I wish I would have taken other people's advice and changed vets. Now my 3 year old dog is gone and suffered through their misdiagnosis. Listen to the reviews and do not take your animal to this awful place. read more

office manager is immature, rude and dismissive, knowingly lets animals suffer needlessly!! after 14 years, im done!! well when you lie to clients and make their pets suffer, how would you react???? i have countless testimony that you have killed pets from neglect no wonder when clients react to your bullying of people and animals you get bad reviews!! Dr Kessler is a joke and only wants to push appointments and especially needless vaccines with absolutely NO COMPASSION for animals what so ever! read more

This place ruined Thanksgiving for my family. We made an appointment to renew our dog's vaccinations in order to board them for the holiday. Our appointment was cancelled with no notice (evidently they don't have doctors?), so we can't board the dogs and had to cancel an out of state trip to see family. read more

Friendly staff...until they quote you extremely ridiculous prices and you tell them no...wanted over 500 dollars to give my 2 cats ther first set of vaccines...I told them no and called suburban animal hospital in Monroe ...they examined my cats and ther first set of vaccines for 322...over 2 hundred less than Gibraltar animal hospital... read more

They somehow took down my review . This used to be the best vetranarian ..not anymore...The vets only work 4 days a week and did not get back when my diabetic dog was being monitored for blood sugar levels by electronic readings Days went by without input...very dangerous/ life threatening for my dog. I have changed to Flat Rock Animal clinic and I am very impressed with the doctors there read more

Do not go here! I have given them many of chances and now they said my dog was past due for rabies vaccine. They send me his records and it states that he has a 3 year rabies. I called them they said no that it was only 1 year. So why on his certificate of vaccinations does it state that he has a 3 year? They are terrible to get into and now they are arguing with me about a vaccine. Why would you give me a certificate stating otherwise? Please take your animas somewhere else. So they just replied in an email and we see that nothing matches up. So they call me and Jackie states that she does not see an expiration date on rabies on her sheet. I really can't make this up. Please go somewhere else save your animals! read more

We used to love Gibraltar vet. We saw dr Hilton. Since she and her husband left, it's gone down hill. Their boarding was double the cost of anyone else around and the hours just keep getting worse. read more

I have already done one review. The beautiful young lady I talked to a week ago was wonderful at fixing the issue regarding no one answering phones or changing appointments. So I rebooked for my dog. The appointment was tomorrow. OMG I get a call today from a women stating you gave a poor reveiw I said yes I did. You have terrible customer service when it comes tobooking appointments and answering phones. How can I tell anyone in your office if half the time you dont answer phone. Her reply your appointment is cancelled. I told her that is fine. Customer service is a priorty. Gibraltar Vet went down hill when The Dalys sold. read more

I took my dog in for all of her vaccines and after getting home I realized they didn't give her a rabies shot. This place is more money hungry than caring for your pet; and it's been this way since it was bought out. read more

I recently adopted to male kittens. I took them to Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital and found that t! he vets I have seen in the past have all left...red flag! Dr. Jessica Kessler saw my 7 week old boys. She picked one up and moved him around in her hands for a moment. Then she told me that I needed to put them on flea protection. I told her I was not planning on it because they are indoor only and I did not want to add extra chemicals into their systems. I told her that I had bathed them twice, flea combed them and found zero evidence of any issues. At that very moment, she looked down at one of them and said, "Oh, I see a flea". I asked her to comb him and show me the evidence of fleas. I could've made a mistake! She refused and ordered Revolutions for 3 months. I did take one month. She refused to do a fecal sample or testing for feline aids or leukemia. I have 2 adult cats, so this is crucial information to keep them safe. Both kitten had runny eyes and sneezing, for which she did nothing. She began to walk out of the exam room when I stopped her and said, "you haven't even looked at the other kitten". She picked him up and set him down...that was his exam. I was charged $200+ for this level of care. The office manager refused to entertain any kind of change to the bill, after hearing about the visit and the absolute lie told by her vet! I took my boys to another vet for "real" care. NO, THEY DO NOT HAVE FLEAS! So, Dr. Kessler completely LIED to me when she said Oh, I see a flea. This new vet carefully examed both boys, prescribed antibiotics and eye ointment, reviewed and made changes to their diet, took and processed a fecal sample, took and processed a blood sample. All the things on a checklist for a new kitten visit. He spent time to discuss any and all concerns. He even was joyful to pet and play with these little guys. His last statement to me "These boys are going to be so beautiful. I can't wait to see them full grown." It's such a shame that this facility has gone in this direction. They used to be trusted and reputable. read more

if your pet needs help in a timely manner STAY AWAY!!! We took our cat in for not being able to fully urinate and being in pain when doing so, we were told to watch him very closely as he could be come completely backed up which would be a medical emergency and he would need immediate care. They however did not have the medication in stock and it had to be ordered. After paying expedited shipping the farthest day out to receive the medication we get notified it has been put on permanent back order leaving our cat still with no relief or help. We are still waiting for a call back from them to see what they can do for our poor boy who will probably have to be seen again now (by a different vet) due to no lack of urgency whatsoever. read more

I cannot praise this practice enough. I brought my dog here for the end of her life and they were all sweet and caring. A special thanks to Dr. Cole, who was kind and patient with our girl and our grief. Thank you all. I recommend this place to everyone. read more

upon attempting to book a lodging for my dog, I was informed that I had to make an appointment with the vet first for bonding at a cost of 70 dollars. That is absolutely ridiculous. I have never had to pay a fee like that before. My dog is up to date on all required shots and there is no reason for this other than a money grab. I wouldn't recommend anyone board their dog here and be subject to this unnecessary up charge. read more

Very compassionate office. They were the only office in the area that made time for us, when our beloved pet took a sudden turn for the worse with her health. Everyone else told us to take her to the Emergency Vet. The caring staff here heard her whimper and made time for us right away and helped make the difficult time a little easier. We are grateful for Gibraltar Vet. read more

Overpriced, saw a different vet who didn't know my dogs history every time. They couldn't handle my 30 pound dog who was a little anxious, vet assistant couldn't hold him and he ran back to me so I held him. Better in the end, at least I know how to handle him... Also charge me for a "consultation" I never had. read more

All the staff were super kind. I appreciate how comfortable my spazarina cat was with them and they were thorough in her care and I am so grateful. Priceeeeeey (my boyfriend still mad at me) but, with all the care she got it was worth it. Big thanks to everyone who cared for her and everyone else there. read more

Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital - She's the coolest little critter. She was spayed there. - Veterinarians Near Me - Gibraltar, Michigan

We had several very poor experiences at Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital. We really wanted to like it, because it is close to our home, and also looks like a nicer establishment. We boarded our pet here a few times, and also had routine things done like scheduled shots, etc. My biggest beef with this Vet's office is that you are not allowed to accompany your dog for shots or any type of service. I've never experienced that before, and I really feel like this made our dog anxious and freaked out about Vet visits. Before coming to GVH, our dog never had any issues being groomed, but ever since we came here our dog will not let anyone near his nails or paws. GVH's solution to this anxious behavior was to offer sedation tablets ($70-$90), which we felt were unnecessary and overpriced. The services here overall are expensive (From basic heartworm and flea meds to shots). Also, I tried to get Rx for Heartworm to order through Petmeds.com and it took some serious effort to get an Rx from the Pharmacy here. We did find an alternative vet that we like much better, and that seems to offer more competitive pricing and a general more positive experience. They also allow you to accompany your pet during shots, etc. If you live downriver, I'd suggest doing some research and making sure there are not better alternatives. read more

This update is a little late, but I'll write it anyways. A few months after our experience at GVH, I took my dog to a different vet for another issue, where she was diagnosed in the first three minutes, by the VET TECH, with an abscessed tooth. They later extracted it and my girl is much better. I'll never go back to Gibraltar Vet, and will discourage anyone I can from going there. read more

If I could give no stars I would. My mother had the worst experience. She took her cat in for what she thinks was a seizer 3 weeks ago. Was basically told she should put her cat down because she is 15 years old..."a senior". Said her cat had high blood pressure & heart murmur & had a severe bladder infection. Claimed they had to send out a urine sample because their machine was broken & wouldn't give her any medication until they received results. For 3 weeks my mother called to get the urine results because she didn't want her cat to suffer with an infection but never received a call back from the doctor. Fast forward to today's following up appointment only to find out her cat didn't even have urine infection & blood pressure is fine now that she's on blood pressure meds. What kind of vet doesn't call with lab results & worst would suggest putting your fur baby down in the first visit based on that evidence??? read more

Our precious pups have been patients here for three years and have had nothing but an exception care by the Doctors, boarding and grooming. High tech facility with the best care offered to every pet. This practice offers several different Wellness Plans for everyone. We primarily see Dr. Sayed and when he is not available we see Dr. Hilton. Our little Pug Marvin had a small lump on the left side of his abdomen and required surgery within a few days. Surgery were very well and he is thriving today. Every aspect of this practice is exceptional. Highly recommend. The staff is exhibits excellent customer service and treats every patient with dignity and respect. Absolute Exceptional Care rendered by all. read more

One of the cleanest and most sanitary veterinary offices I have been too. I've owned pets my whole life and now comfortably settled with 7 cats and 2 Golden's. They allow me to book appts for all 7 cats at one time which is a huge help. They love my Walter dog who has been though 2 major surgeries to remove dishrags from his intestines. He's a frequent visitor there. After his first surgery they kept him 9 days for me while I was out of town so he could be properly monitored. They may not be the cheapest vet in town. But you get what you pay for with quality of service and professionalism and knowledge of the veterinarians. The compassion there is amazing. When I had to let my Otis go the Vetrinarian was comforting and allowed me all the time I needed to say my goodbyes. It was peaceful and Otis was never stressed out in his final hour. I also like they diagnose in steps vs doing multiple tests at once. They save you a lot of money by taking the diagnoses in a process. You might be there a bit longer. But the savings is substantial and very appreciated. read more

Took my dog in for a dislocated hip, while visiting family. They wrapped her leg up and it cut the circulation off which developed a pressure sore that killed the tissue on her leg and foot. Now she might need her leg amputated. Thanks a lot... read more

The vets on staff change frequently. Dr. Catherine Davis is no longer there. After this post, I had 2 other guinea pigs. We found another vet here,Dr. Pick, who also specialized in exotic pets, but unfortunately she left too. Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital no longer has a vet who is even willing to look at exotic pets. We could not find another vet who was as thorough and cared for guinea pigs as much as these vets did. I think if they would've had the quality of care that they had received from Dr. Davis and Dr. Pick, they both wouldn't have passed so quickly after we stopped taking them to Gibraltar. We tried taking our dog there, but they are quite pricey for shots and exams. However, our dog still gets boarded there from time to time and their boarding facility and staff are wonderful. The grooming is not good with long haired dogs, especially doodles. I took my doodle three times too many. They always shave him, even though I ask for them to leave it a little longer so he looks like a doodle. Every single time I've taken him, they always give him razor burn on his belly and private areas. I've gone to a different groomer since and we haven't had that problem. read more

We highly recommend Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Hilton has taken exceptional care of our dogs over the last 10 years. When our dog needed emergency treatment, he went above and beyond for our girl and basically saved her life. He always takes the time to explain and help us understand treatment options so that we are able to make educated decisions on the care of our dogs. We are thankful to have found such a caring veterinary hospital. read more

I take my dog here for grooming. They said he needed his teeth cleaned for $350 minimum. I shopped around and found a Vet on Telegraph in Flat Rock who did everything and a little more for $190. I've been with Gib thru 5 dogs now and have had good service, but I feel their prices are getting a little steep. read more

I brought my dog here for lodging for 4 nights. It's a little bit on the pricey side but I was insanely impressed with them. At the time my dog recently had most of his tail amputated due to extreme happy tail, we had a really hard time keeping him from going after his wound and I was super nervous leaving him with strangers while he was going through that. I did feel a little better that we were lodging him somewhere that was also a hospital so that if something happened and he needed to be treated I knew hed get what he needs. To my pleasant surprise his tail was healing nicely and he was a happy, clean, healthy dog upon pick up . I also paid a little extra to get pictures of him sent to me during his stay there and they seemed to give him lots of attention and he looked like he was having a great time! I am planning to lodge 2 dogs here next June read more

Awful place. Will refuse to work with your pet at the slightest sign of anxiety and still charge you. Any vet clinic downriver is better than this place. read more

Gibraltar Vet Hospital is amazing. The staff is very compassionate and loving with our pets and foster dogs. They have gone over and beyond my expectations. Our older Collie thinks he runs the facility and the staff knows him well. I have to give a major thanks to Dr. Davis. The Collie breed has many issues with possible drug interactions and she has done her research on the issues. We switched to Gibraltar because a former Vet tried to push an Ivermectin product on our Collie that would have likely killed him. I have been impressed with their knowledge of breed specific issues. We have also used their grooming and boarding services. I am comfortable leaving my dogs in their care. read more

Customer service and pet care is on a steady decline. This weekend I paid for a fecal to be done while my dog was being boarded. On Sunday when I picked up the dog, I asked for the results, and I was told they weren't back yet, but I'd only get a call if there was a problem. Then two days later I get an email reminding me the dog needs a fecal test. So I called to verify it had been done -- and to my surprise it hadn't!! I immediately took them a fecal sample and when I arrived I asked to speak with a manager or someone in charge to explain my concerns. The receptionist would not get anyone and assured me she would discuss the problem with "some one." I will never do any kind of business with this place ever again. read more

This vet is a rip off. Dog went in $259 for a urinary infection. They put her on antibiotics and it didn't work. Now they want another $200 to look at her again?! They already said she probably had female inconstant. They won't call in any other prescription. read more

My daughter had to take her 1 year old puppy to be put to sleep. This was heartbreaking and devastating for her entire family. My grandchildren are heartbroken. This vet was heartless in providing alternative treatments for my daughters puppy WITHOUT regard to the constant pain and quality of life the puppy would endure. Along with the alternative treatment my daughter would have to pass ownership to them. After the puppy was gone my daughter asked for a paw print to cherish. Today the vet called and they forgot to get a paw print. I find this UNEXCUSEABLE. No matter how sorry they are, it does not make a difference. Please do not take your pet there. read more
