You cannot beat Giant Tiger. I will come here over the bigger equivalent franchises. It's a shame this is the original store in all of Canada and it looks this way. There's some wear and tear. A fresh coat of paint and perhaps reorganizing the aisles would be do it well. The selection is minimal since it is a smaller store. If there is something on sale from the flyer and you don't go the day off, forget seeing it the whole week. I do appreciate you can ask for a rain check. The staff are always friendly and greet you at the cash. A bonus here is when it gets busy they will have all 3 cashes open. There is no self serve which I don't mind but perhaps not for the person who has social anxiety. read more

The selection is small - as is the store. The customer service is terrible. The staff are all located by the cash registers i.e. not on the floor. I had questions for Almira T. Could I ad match? Her answer was yes. How does it work? Almira T. says the product must be identical. My question concerned an ad match for a Beatrice branded product and all this tiny store had was Nielson. Almira T. refused. No deal, no way. Adieu Giant Tiger. read more

It's Giant Tiger-nothing fancy, but good prices and decent quality. For me, it's nostalgic, as we've gone there on our vacation to Canada dozens of times. read more

This is the original Giant Tiger! As in the very first Giant Tiger store to ever open back in 1961. I'm sure there have been some renovations, but they have retained some old style elements which I find cool. This is also the first Giant Tiger store I ever went to. I had never heard of Giant Tiger before moving to Ottawa. Growing up in Toronto there were no Giant Tigers (Giant Tiger only entered the Greater Toronto Area in 2005, which is after I moved away. And they still don't actually have any stores in Toronto proper, just surrounding areas). Giant Tiger is a discount store. It sells a bit of everything. The clothes, accessories and housewares are not of high quality. Their foods are a mix of their store brand "Giant Value" and national brands. Their sales are actually quite good and you can get national brands for much less than at regular grocery stores. This particular location is in the Byward Market. It's not as big, bright or clean as other locations. It's actually a bit grungy and if it wasn't for the historic piece to it, I would probably hate it, lol. Worth a visit to see the original Giant Tiger, but for the actual shopping experience, I prefer other locations (the ones the suburbs are much better). read more

Giant Tiger - Department Stores Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

I honestly didn't realize how big Giant Tiger was until I moved to Ottawa and found out I just walked into their very first store. I don't think I came across any in the GTA. This one even has tour buses coming over. This one in particular is split into two floors. The lower level consists of some groceries and essentials, for cleaning and the like. The prices for these items don't really stand out from other grocery or discount stores, with some items even being a bit pricier from my observations. This floor serves more for convenience. The higher level has all the discounted clothing items, with a broad variety of apparel to peruse. You can probably find a lot of items at half the price of your brand items, more noticeably jackets and boots for winter weather; obviously not at the same quality, but good to last a long while. This is what everyone's probably talking about when it comes to GT's big discounts. This location in particular isn't too big, having to do with the space it's got within the dense Byward Market. For one, it's not wheelchair accessible. The staff I've talked to seem a bit reluctant to be here, and service has been little more than an obligation. I haven't had anything wrong come up in my visits, though. History aside, this is a perfectly fine department store. I'll probably want to get some more clothes from here. read more

This giant tiger has improved so much over the past years. It's much more organized and clean now compared to what it used to be a few years ago. Considering they have such a compact area to work with, I think they're doing well with the organization now! It is a smaller giant tiger compared to others, so the options seem sort of limited however given the location in downtown Ottawa it is very convenient. There are three floors to this giant tiger. The top one being kids clothes and home products. Middle floor being adult men and women clothing and basement being food, household cleaning and other household products and the cashiers. You can't beat giant tiger prices. The service here was great. The cashiers were super friendly and happy which is always a plus. read more

This store always has homeless pple sitting outside and inside the store. Often you hear clerks chasing them to get items back that were not paid for. I hesitate to enter the store. read more

I am very disappointed...I try to always support local and h0ave patronized Giant Tiger for many years. I feel after today that will not be the case. I purchased groceries today and when I was at the cash was asked did I need bags. Regular question. I said no I have my own and took them out of the basket. The cashier would not take them and when I said do we have to bag our own was told "yeap". When did it become policy if I don't pay for your bags you won't pack my items? We are seniors and that is not an easy task. I felt that we were bothering them. Customer service SHOULD be part of my experience but it would appear that no longer exists. read more

I was at the store on, st Laurent Blvd in Ottawa today. I was looking for an, item that was in the flyer. Till I believe august 3rd 2020, I asked an employee if there are any left. He went in the back, to check he came back and said no. I said they are in your flyer, his response is there discontinued. But the flyer was, till August third. The price in the flyer, was 4,99 but the tag on the shelf was 5, 99. I did not understand why, it's in there flyer and its discontinued. I would like the cheese cake, that's in there flyer. read more

This rating is probably the highest rating I'll ever give a Giant Tiger. Do they make Giant Tiger's ghetto on purpose? Because if they do this is the most awesome one! It feels like Honest Ed's in a smaller and more cramped space they did it perfectly! This is the original GT in Canada. The stuff here is a pretty good price especially when things are on sale and it's like Walmart-lite without having to leave the downtown core to go to Walmart. The only thing I do buy from this GT are usually supplies like paper towels, detergent, dish soap, etc... The staff is always friendly and the people working the tills can strike up good conversation! Thank you GT for letting me not have to leave downtown! read more

I'm not really a fan of Giant Tiger, I refer to them as glorified dollar stores, where you can find just about everything from cheap clothing, food, accessories, and household items. It's split on two levels, household items and food are in the basement- Apparel is upstairs. The quality is left to be desired and the overall look and feel of this place is "cheap". Not everything is a bargain though. Similiar to a convenience store, if you need to refill on basic supplies, you'll pay a little more than a Walmart or discount grocer. I found an Olay face cleanser for 8$ for example, it's usually half the price elsewhere. What I do like is that it's centrally located, awesome in the downtown area if you need some quick snacks or grocery staples. I only love this place on Canada Day, whenever I visit, or as a tourist - If you're in need of some kitsch festive wear, rain poncho, sunscreen, cold drinks, or lawn chairs, you'll find it all here! read more

I've always enjoyed going to GT as it's always been a place I can grab something quick before I go to the grocery. I have been going on and off to the GT in Orillia, Ontario since I moved here, last year. The poor customer service and the bad managerial skills the management has at this location is appalling. When you ask for a manager all they do is laugh in your face and talk down to you. I have worked in customer service for about 9 years myself, and if you want a returning customer this is no way to treat people. I'm awaiting a call back from head office in regards to the poor treatment of the staff in this store. read more

Thank you Giant Tiger for serving the people downtown since my mom used to buy me Barbie furniture here back in the 1970s. I can always find some grocery staples I need at a reasonable price. On a recent visit they had large tubs of plain Astro yogurt for $2.50 and 5 avocados for $3.00. I also really like the home section. I ended up buying 4 stylish throw-blankets from $6.00 - 20.00. I will always be a loyal customer. I hope you always stay in business because you are probably the only store left in the area which is geared towards the peeps instead of tourists. You can always find something cute and useful here at a good price. read more

Giant Tiger - The patterned blankie with the fleece was $15. The larger grey one was $20. The 2 smaller red ones were $6 each. - Department Stores Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

ZERO STARS! Worst company ever. Made 2 orders and they cancelled both orders after 1 week of waiting. On top of that, the exact item I ordered was on the new flyer that same day. Customer service yet to respond. Disgraceful. False advertising at its finest! read more

Many people do not know that the Giant Tiger located in the Byward Market is the ORIGINAL Giant Tiger. Yes, it's actually the first Giant Tiger opened in Canada. It's such a big deal, that they even offer tours of the store and parking for tour buses! The Byward Giant Tiger is similar to most GT locations; they offer clothes, small appliances, food, electronics, and other assorted goods at discount prices. They have recently started stocking produce, which is scary but neat. If you consume tobacco products, they have the cheapest prices in Ontario. Please be aware that this location is NOT accessible! The location is spread out over 3 floors with no elevators. If you have difficulties with stairs, you may not be able to shop here. They will, however, help you bring your bags outside if you have difficulty carrying heavy items. The staff are generally courteous, but it really depends on when you go and who serves you. read more

I've got to give Giant Tiger some love. Before moving to Ottawa I had never heard of a "Giant Tiger" before and apparently the location in ByWard is the original one. This is the place you visit when you're on a budget. There is clothing, shoes, packs of socks, cleaning supplies, packaged groceries, frozen food, dairy, personal care products, lamps, school supplies, dish sets, rugs, pillows, candy... Pretty much anything you could need when you move into a new place. The staff are cordial for the most part, which I commend because I don't imagine it's super fun to work here. Check it out. You will probably be surprised at what you can find! read more

Giant Tiger is for people who have very little. The selection is limited, but the prices are good, especially for necessities. Some of the stuff is low quality, but when it's all you can afford, at least with GT, you can afford something. That said, I always start my search for an item, no matter what, at GT. The staff are great, helpful and friendly, and I really appreciate that this store exists to provide goods and jobs for people who need them. Despite the fact I can afford to go to upscale if I choose, I choose to support a business that supports local people. Why would I pay more to see my money raked off for shareholders far away? GO, GIANT TIGER! read more

This place is so run down. From the stairway you are assaulted by indeterminate smells. Went in for a coffee maker and was sent to nearby home hardware so not a satisfying shopping experience. This place is more of a landmark than it is a retailer at this point. read more

I think I might have a love-hate relationship with Giant Tiger. Sometimes the things I find in there are just garbage - no nice way to put it. Other times I can find such awesome little things for so cheap, and I walk out totally happy with only spending a few bucks. You can usually find odds and ends that you need here, which makes it both inexpensive and convenient. One year, in the summer, as it was approaching Canada Day, a few friends and I were in the Market and stopped by this location for a few random items. We bought a couple of Canadian flags, a couple packs of batteries, a disposable camera, Coke, and some Pixy Stix for our sweet-tooth fix. It was less than $10 and we were able to pick up some little things that we needed for later, as well as some junk food that we wanted to eat right then and there. My friend even went back for a bottle of water and an extra bag of chips, opened them up, and even ate them while he paid for them at the cash. The cashier didn't seem to mind, and she was really fast at ringing us through. read more

I am writing is this review about a Giant tiger store located at 9065 Airport Road,Brampton. I have been shopping from last 10 yrs from different locations but over here my experience has been bad past and today also. I got orchid which they charged me more , i went back and asked the price was 7.88 you charged me more and will it be for free now , she goes back and checks that i was right , i was asked to wait for customer service i did . i told her the same at customer service desk Mureen N agent ,First she was not ready to listen , then she was not ready to go and see ,it was 3 checkout counter away, when she went there they took the price tags off, and she continuously asked where did you see we can't do it i can't find it finally the guys who was just infront of the rack told her that i am right it was 7.88 and he took the tags off. I asked her again then its free as per policy , OMG the attitude do you want it or not , i can't do it , he just took the tag off . I told her i will buy it but when i paid price was there u guys just took it off u charged me more than what it said .But her attitude was bad , I can't do it . Really if their is a policy have some respect dear no need to be rude and hide what the fact is .i will never go to this giant tiger very disappointed these kind of people should not be appointed anywhere Her name was Mureen N better she learns some decency to speek to the customer , Its not a cheap store that she acted like one have some dignity towards your own conscience . read more

I understand the covid return policy but honestly enough already. Other stores are all doing returns. You should open back up for returns, you have kept my money long enough. I am also alarmed that when I asked about a possible return date at one of your stores a clerk claimed other stores were doing all sales final, maybe Giant Tiger would never be allowing returns again. I was very disturbed by the comment. First when I bought the items in early March it was with the understanding they could be returned, secondly your site says the return suspension is temporary, and third many other stores are doing returns and sales are not final. Very poor customer service remark, and I wonder if I should ever shop at Giant Tiger again if returns are threatened to be taken away. If your clerk was wrong then you need to address this with the store on Fitch in Welland, Ontario. read more

I give them a 5 star for the following reasons: they are a Canadian store owned by a French family. Thy still have great customer service, they know all the prices off the top of their heads! If a product ran out ask them they will have it in 3 days! They have fair prices not greedy and careless like say Loblaws or other huge global stores and most of their staff are Canadian whites which is what I like. If the store was almost all minorities I would stop going. In our major holidays like Christmas and Easter they have all the food we would cook are cheap prices say for a turkey dinner. You go to Loblaws its a foreign owner whose not Christian, and greedy, he puts the prices of the turkey dinner at double the price! I spent a lot of my money at Giant Tiger since they opened when I was in my 20s, I buy groceries, houseware items, clothing, cat food. Their produce is fresh and bread is 30% cheaper than the big grocers for the same brand of bread! How can a 10 lb bag of potatoes cost $2.49 in Giant Tiger, and other greedy grocers, its $5.99 lol? read more

On Saturday afternoon I was at Giant Tiger looking at a pair of knee high boots. I tried on only the right boot and having not liked the style immediately removed the boot without trying on the left boot. After a few minutes of leaving the store I felt an itch on my leg. When I reached to scratch it I felt a very noticeable bite mark. After several more minutes the itching on my leg increased and I noticed there were actually 7 large red unknown insect bites on my leg. All of the bites were above the top of my sock and below my knee, so only the areas where the boot touched my leg. I was wearing leggings at the time so whatever bit me was able to do so through those. By night time the bites had increased in size. They were all large, red, inflamed welts. The smallest being the size of a quarter. The burning and itching was so intense I was unable to sleep. I spent over $20 on several remedies for bites, none of which relieved the itching or pain. It is now Tuesday morning and the bites are still quite large and still so uncomfortable they are affecting my ability to concentrate on anything else or get proper sleep. I have no doubt the bites came from the boot I tried on because they showed up only minutes after trying on the boot and I have no new bites since the initial 7. I will not be shopping at this location in the future and I suggest, if you want to avoid days of intense pain, that you find somewhere else to do your shopping. read more
