THIS RATING IS FROM A DAY OF WALK IN ON A SATURDAY @12:45PM FOR A 9 YEAR OLD PAINTBALL SOFT. Paintball Soft is good for ages 7+. The gun power is less and the bullets are smaller to hurt less. Next time, I will definitely reserve a spot 24hrs prior. 4 stars only because from 12:45pm - 4pm my 9 year old only played 2 games. I don't know if this is an average. Face shield mandatory! Long loose pants, long sleeve shirts, and gloves are recommended. Thick layers or double layer are ideal for pain tolerance and weather conditions. Closed toed comfortable shoes. Wear close that you're okay getting dirty. Non alcoholic beverages, snacks and food are okay. You just can't BBQ or cook anything. 12:45PM - Arrived. The park is in the Barona area. The park shares space close to a Motocross/Dirt Bike Track. Signs will point you in the correct direction. Parking is on a dirt lot. Free parking. Checked it for a walk in. There were no Paintball Soft Guns available for rent at arrival, but the front desk guy said between 1:15pm - 1:30pm he will have an answer. We waited until then. 1:30PM - Paintball Soft Gun available. I paid $65 for 1000 paint balls, entry, mask, and gun rental. They taught my 9 year old how to manage the Paintball Soft Gun. There was a target area where he could practice shooting. 1:45PM - The referee had to take his 30min break. 2:15PM - Referee done with break. He gathered all the Paintball Soft crew. Broke the group up into a green team and pink team. He explained the rules of how to handle the gun, when to not shoot, masks always on, etc. 2:30PM - Game 1. Walked over to the first map. I was a spectator. The players looked like they had fun. Parents can watch from a far. Maps are located on beginner friendly hiking trails 3:00PM - Game end. 10 minute break for next game. 3:30PM - Gather group back. Referee briefs the group again. Walks group to new map. Game 2 begins. 4:00PM - Game ends. My nephew is tired and ready to be done. The park closes at 4PM but there were still games starting after. If we stayed, my nephew would probably have done a total of 3 games. read more

At one point he started throwing paintballs at one of my friends to see if he could break it on him (one hit him right on his mask). Extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. He didnt answer any of the questions we had, and would be on his phone while he was supposed to be refereeing our matches. We've been coming out to Giant Paintball for quite a few years now and usually have pretty decent experience. Aside from our referee who was amazing (cheers to Dylan) we had a sour experience. There's only one area to cash out for purchasing more paintballs, so if there's a family needing to be tended to with their questions myself and another guy from another group waited a good 15mins to be acknowledged to be able to say what we were up for. The staff did help that other family which kudos to that. However, later a staff member, who was off work and playing with friends, used the N-word in front of my group of kids who are all different races and there for our son's birthday. I did have a talk with my kids, some of whom have never been to Giant, about how the use of the racial slur is absolutely unacceptable and had to talk to some of the parents regarding what the kids witnessed. Not run well. The park employees do not care about safety. The employees asks if people wanted minimums or not and the folks that knew what that meant said no and that was the rule. People were getting shot by rifles 5 feet away. The park employees do not go over safety. They do not explain the games. It was pretty much, "okay everyone we are going to play Vietnam, bands on this side no bands on that side. Two 10 minute games, last minute no respond. Go." No discussion on boundaries or objectives. Just free for all and people not calling their shots. Just so you know, you need a barrel cover at this park. They sell them here for $7. The parking is nice. Recently went and it was okay experience. They only sell 2 types of paint $50 &$70, just bring your own stuff like everyone else does. The small amount of tables they had were taken by people who got there earlier than me and I was there at 9am. Bring your own table and chairs, or just tailgate it like everyone else did. Played 4 fields, the death valley field is basically just playing in a canyon where you can hardly see anyone. That field definitely needs work. read more

AIRSOFTER I've been coming here every weekend for almost 4 months now, and overall it's a fun place to play. Admission is cheap at $25 for 1 day, or $250 for a 1 year unlimited admission membership. I've never rented guns but I always see kids with them and I've even been hit by them so I know they work. I will say the sitting area is a bit dingy. Older tables that are kind of gross in an area that needs some remodeling. There is a fair amount of shade, so you have that. Airsoft has 6 maps and I've played them all, for walk ons you usually get Vietnam (good), Bunker Hill (eh) , and Castle (good) but on days with less reservation parties you'll play the entire rotation. The maps are a tad bit overgrown but with rain and such there's not much you can do. It does really aid in natural cover tho, you can sneak around on most maps if you're patient enough. I like the balance of level engagements with the maps. You can have 70m engagements on some lanes at Concrete, and get up close & personal with enemies on Castle. Most shots you'll take I would say are medium at 20-50m depending on play-style. Staff and refs are cool I've never had an issue with any of them. A lot of people here tho seem to 'not notice' getting hit, but I feel like that's just every airsoft field tbh. Most guys here are super chill, and I do enjoy coming here in my weekends hanging out with randoms. I wish the place got some renovations with the fields and sitting area but overall it's fun to come here. read more

Not recommending for birthday parties. No table was held for our private, reserved ahead of time party & we arrived 1 hour early. No waivers were communicated to us to be completed. The staff was rude and told us we would all be waiting 30 min after start time - I mentioned we had a "reserved private party" it didn't matter (we didn't matter) after absolutely zero communication/ guidance for our party. They said they were slammed and had two "walk on" groups they were dealing with. Manager was eager to charge me the $400 for our "private party" but offered nothing more than stress and left us questioning every last detail. Very unstructured, discombobulated and inefficient to a T. Not ideal for parents hosting a child's birthday party IMHO. So silly for a business to act this way, especially when the paintball is so fun. read more

Take aim! This Giant Paintball location is decent. I've played before, but I'm still a novice and this was my first visit here. There are a number of fields that they rotate throughout the day. A castle to attack and defend. A hill to climb up and down. A variety of natural shrubbery for camouflage and manufactured structures to hide behind. It can be a workout, with plenty of opportunities to crouch, duck, squat, lunge, get low (get low get low get low), or sprint. Even though the paintball paint is water based and easily washed, the general recommendation is to wear loose fitting, layered, comfortable clothing. Jeans and long-sleeved t-shirts should suffice, but GP has coveralls and protective vests available for rent. The paintball sting isn't as bad in baggy-ish clothes. You might as well be naked if you're playing in thin, skin tight material. Lots of people wearing either paintball jerseys or military camo gear today. I noticed a pile of random materials and equipment along the path and heard that GP's other location in Alpine, near Viejas Indian Casino, had closed down. That's a bummer because I enjoyed playing at the paintball fields over there. Business is slow. The employees were friendly and helpful. Getting set up with the rental equipment was a snap. My rented paintball marker worked fine and no equipment malfunctions to report. Timely announcements of the next match was helpful and loud enough for everyone to hear. Trying to get a decent pool of walk-on players is a separate issue. Towards the later part of the morning, it was probably a better idea to divide the group since larger parties were joining and the range of both ages and skill levels were getting broader. Maybe GP was short-staffed to have another referee to split the group. On the one hand, it was nice having large scale skirmishes, but taking friendly fire from rookies was frustrating. I think my buddy got shot in the neck by a random teammate. You're on your own for snacks, so bring a cooler or backpack because there are no restaurants or grocery stores nearby. Be sure to stay hydrated, especially during those hot days. Keep a lookout from time to time for online coupons and group deals. If you have a large group, call ahead to work out a discount and reserve a private party if you'd rather play separately from the general walk-on group. Paintball can be more enjoyable with a group of friends and shooing at besties and frenemies. If you're looking to check out a different adrenaline challenge beyond the pedestrian nature hike, then consider a day at Giant Paintball. read more

Was recently introduced to air soft and have been hooked since. This place has a great staff, regulars who are friendly/helpful, and fun fields. Different themes in games at times (capture the flag, VIP, cops/robbers, Team death match, etc). Free AIR for HPA / pain ballers. This park has a higher turn out for air softers than paint ballers imo which is great. The only con I would say is better borders for out of bounds. This place was fantastic!! We went on a day where my son and his friend were the only kids, they are both 10. The staff made sure to show them special attention, asking other player to keep an eye on them and stay by them and help them out. They were even made cocaptains of their team. Came here as a first timer with a Groupon in hand. The staff was friendly and accommodating, answering all our questions about ammo, procedures, etc. Let me break down my experience, which might be helpful if you come here as a newb like me. With the $15 Groupon - which included gun & max rental, we paid an additional $11 for tax and an all-day play pass. Park is open from 9-5. They do sessions that last about 15-20 min, with 5 min breaks in between. You're not inclined to join each session if you feel you need a break. It can get hot as you play, so I'd recommend wearing loose, light, but protective clothing. And when I say protective, I mean long sleeves and pants. You can wear shorts & t-shirts, but do keep in mind you're getting shot by paintballs going 200 mph. Also, you will be going through unforgiving, dry brush that will scratch your skin. I wore running tights, a long sleeved shirt, and a protective vest that I rented there for $7. -- Also, try to wear colors that blend in with the desert landscape (browns, blacks, neutrals). Your favorite neon shirt is probably pretty rad but you will stick out like a sore thumb and probably get shot. Shoes - stay comfortable. Cleats work. You will get dirty FYI. The sessions rotate on five maps - we played the Bunker, Death Valley, and Western map. At the beginning of each session, you gather around the entrance to the playing field and wait for the referee to lead everyone to the map. Once there, he splits everyone randomly into two teams and explains the rules of the game. Once you're hit by a paintball, you're out, and you step outside the map boundaries and wait for the game to finish. 1) Bunker Map - This map is on a hill. The two teams start out on opposite ends on the bottom of the hill and the objective is to grab the flag in the middle and bring it to the top. There is a lot of dry brush around, but not so much coverage. 2) Death Valley - To put it bluntly - this map sucks. Football shaped field & tons of brush. Barely anything for coverage. Game starts with teams on opposing ends, last one standing wins. 3) Western - Loved this one. Feels like you're playing Call of Duty. Smaller playing field, lots of coverage from cut out shipping containers. Players range from beginner to advanced, and depending on how many people decide to play a map there could be 20-50 players. Kinda tough when you're a newbie but it was kinda fun jumping right in. Free water is provided, tables to sit, shade, paper towels. They do offer food - cheeseburgers, hot dogs, the like. Two porter potties for restrooms and an outdoor sink. Despite the heat, I had a lot of fun! Not sure if I will be back to this park though. I feel as if they could have been more organized in their procedures. Also, it would be nice if you had the option of choosing what map to play. read more

It was good, but not amazing. Overall, I would have to say it seemed about average for the paintball places that I've been. Rental guns were about average, Pros: -Low cost, especially with coupon. Paint wasn't bad either ($35/ case) -Nice goggle/masks. Clean, clear, not scratched. Cons: -Understaffed on the Sunday we went... resulted in huge groups on the same field. :( Would have much preferred that the people with their own guns go play on a separate field from us noobs - Lots of brush on several fields. Brush is terrible (IMO) for paintball, you'll spray and get sprayed, but it's hard to get direct hits. -Fewer different types of fields than the place I usually go -Didn't have rental coveralls available, some clothes got ruined :( read more

I found this place from groupon (www.groupon.com) and came with a group of 17 friends. We were assigned our own referee and had the entire field to ourselves. The location is near Barona Casino with 1 speedball field and 3 open fields. The fields are extremely well designed with props and different themes. Field #1: Speedball - a smaller field with inflatable obstacles. Field #2: Western - a medium/large sized field with corrugated steel buildings and barrels with a layout reminiscent of a western town. (my personal favorite - the paintballs make a nice loud *bang* against the walls and doors. Field #3: Concrete - imagine what the world would look like after WWIII. A medium/large sized field with a couple of old cars, concrete pillars, half-walls. Field #4: Castle - a 'castle' (single story of plywood with many windows and rooms). A creek on one side with bushes and trees. It was a great time! I would have given them more stars if there were more fields, and if they hadn't forgotten to return my ID back to me. read more

There is some serious gas burned to get to this location but worth the drive. Staff was awesome and very helpful. Cost is a little stiff but you can minus some off the cost by bringing your own paint, mask, gun, and other equipment. I believe the fields are one of the best in the San Diego County. We have been to few other parks, but Giant has been the best by far. I took 6 Boys ages 9-13 for my son's birthday. Some were nervous and when "The Sheriff" (that's what his name badge said) heard, he went out his way to have a chat with the boys and help encourage them to have fun. Yesterday was my second time paintballing, but it was my first time at GPP. Overall, got great vibes from the place. The staff were really friendly, especially the lady w/custom gauges who refilled air (sorry I didn't get her name) . The regular paintballers were really polite and not overly aggressive. Some brought their own semiautomatics so against walk-ons with rental guns it wasn't the fairest, but I still had a blast. The staff are friendly, the regulars are super supportive, the maps are well designed and the prices are decent with online discount coupons. The two stars is for their decision to stop carrying CO2. I went today and was told it had been about 2 months since they've had it since "nobody uses it anyways" My A5 will not function on air. Something to do with the demands for pressure from the cyclone feeder and response trigger. It falls on its face with air, failing to cycle the cyclone feeder and causing the marker to sputter out. CO2 operates my A5 flawlessly but I was useless for my team on air today, missing out on more than a few take downs while I dealt with my markers air issues. I get it. Air IS great. It's fast, easy, and available everywhere the atmosphere is. But CO2 has its place, and I feel like paying for all day air should include CO2, especially when the building still has all the CO2 Filling Station signs. I can fill multiple tanks at the local keg shop if I need too, but it would be nice to have that support from the local field too. read more

This place is......eh. The owner...or at least who walked around like the owner, threatened his patrons and said he'd "get his marker" if we shot a ref. Hey, sometimes shit happens. This was unprofessional. When I walked in they asked me if I had a pass, I said no. "Ok I'll charge you twice as much." They charged me $30 to play when they posted on Facebook it was $10 for the day. Ok... They only have three fields here. It gets old playing the same three fields all day. I play about 2-3 times a month but I'm not a pro by any means. I destroyed everyone at this field. Overall, if you're looking to be conned go here. Went here on Veterans day with a group of active duty sailors... All i can say is, the owners showed their appreciation and took EXCELLENT care of the group (including my civilian butt!) We all had so much fun. I had never been paintballing before and was nervous.. My experience here will definitely be bringing me back.The refs were extremely nice and easy to talk to. Update time! Nothing has changed rating wise; Giant Paintball still gets 5 stars from me. My husband and I go up to Giant (located in Lakeside, but closer to Barona/Ramona) as often as we can. We actually regret not going if we don't find the time. They have opened a new map and it's closer to a speedball map compared to the other maps that are for a slower paced game. My favorite maps are Western, Concrete and the speedball course. Least favorite is Death Valley, but keep in mind, these favorites/least favorites are totally my own personal opinion. As a married woman who likes to play against my husband, I'm happy to see other ladies come out and shoot paint with the guys. In fact, more ladies should take the opportunity to come and play some paintball! I'm usually the one wearing blue basketball shorts and a white shirt, so if you see me, come say hi! Overall, you should take a day this weekend to come up to Giant Paintball and get dirty and shoot some paint! TIP: If you're a more-than-occasional paintballer, you can score an awesome deal here at Giant for a year of entry. Ask the associates and they will tell you more about it. I just had my son's 11th birthday there, we all had an awesome time! The place is well run by Jay-manager. Organized, safe, easy to get to, plenty of parking, knowledgeable staff. We had about 33 kids, some adults joined in. If the parents or friends like to spectate you can without any charge just sign the waiver. I like location because a lot of the kids were 1st time players so our private party was kept separated from walk-on's and seasoned players. It's safe the staff kept the watch on the kids the needed to take a break and escorted them away from the action to the safe zone. There is shade provided there and drinks to keep you hydrated. Just be prepared to get dusty, shoes dirty, thirsty and have fun. We got the $53 dollar package, just let the staff know how many people and their skill level and they will let you know how much ammo and air you will need. The place is about 6 minutes past Barona Casino, we got our pizza from Ramona, about 5 minutes away. Overall, all the kids and parents had a great experience and I would recommend this place.
