This Giant location recently underwent a major transformation. They rearranged the store, removed older refrigeration units and replaced a lot of the open air units with units that have doors on them - so as to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. They did a major upgrade to the Deli/Cheese/Olive/Seafood section - to be much higher end and on par with a lot of what Wegmans offers. More hot food options, soup options, sushi options, etc. The entranceway into the store down by the pharmacy side has been permanently closed - due to rampant ongoing theft. They also gutted the restrooms and rebuilt them from the ground up - nice, clean, and modern! Nice upgrades - much appreciated! #Giant read more

This is a nice Giant store. It's bigger than most, so you should be able to find anything. Is it as cheap as Aldi or Lidl? Nope but it's more of a conventional grocery place. They have quite the selection, and also thank you for good microwave food options. If you find a decent sale, and sometimes they do, definitely stock up. Very clean location. Sure it's close to two huge gated communities, but this is an important aspect. Lots of staff on hand, with very helpful employees. It can get busy, but lines move quite expediently. If in the area I'm glad to go here. Beer and wine lovers will appreciate this location. read more

I shop at giant once a week to get all my groceries and social interactions. And usually it's a pretty upbeat experience with the employees all being very happy and joyous, in particular the cashiers Alex and Johan. But today while I was shopping I ended up in Gary's line and it was not fun at all. He very slow at his job and bagged my groceries terribly, I got home and all my eggs and bread were crushed because they were in the same bag as juice. He also was a Debby downer talking to me about his therapy and depression. I have to say that not only is the Giant Pharmacy convenient to my home, they are great with notifying me when my prescriptions need refilling and go the extra mile to contact my doctors to initiate the prescription refill requests. Gave them four stars due to my husband's not so pleasant experience when picking up my prescription five minutes before closing time. Granted it was ready and all he had to do was pay for it but the pharmacist, not the cashier ringing up the order, appeared, according to my husband, to be inconvenienced and he experienced a few glares his way. If you're in the service business just know that patience goes a long way and is most appreciated by your customers. This can be said for most of life's personal interactions since we don't always know what is going on behind the scenes in that person's life. A kind word or action can go a long way. Live in the Haymarket area and want to support our local economy? This was my first trip back to this Giant since 2017 (because of reasons mentioned in my first review). I suspect they are having trouble competing as I had some trouble getting service in 2 different departments. I was even told at the fish department (nicely) that there were self service choices available. I think they are understaffed. I wasn't followed around this time, which was nice. I don't really like doing my grocery shopping here as I feel like they are over priced for mediocre quality and when I do decided to get groceries here they are always out of weird items, and that seems to be the case every time. But you can get good deals on chicken here. And they have lots of nice employees there. But my favorite is their donuts. I am addicted to their donuts! Some of the best around! This is way better than Gainesville location much larger, nicer, and modern to typical grocery store now a days. prices are cheaper than Harris Teeter but they have different selective brands than what other grocery stores carry. I am truly surprised at all the negative reviews. I find the store usually well stocked, very clean and most of the employees are very friendly. They have great specials every week and I think the gas points are a bonus. I especially want to give props to the deli dept. , especially Kyle the manager, Ana and Billie who are always happy to help and a pleasure to deal with. Purchased cherries yesterday. Got home and ate. Blah! Woody taste of spoiled fruit. Looking further, many had white mold and some were squishy. Took back. Very satisfactory adjustment made. Always have a great experience at this Giant. It's less crowded during the week than the one in Gainesville. The parking lot is easy to get in and out of. It's great if you have little ones with you. Quiet, clean, produce & shelves stocked... & the staff is always nice. We recently did the curb pick up service because I was sick and WOW!!! Amazing!!! Cheryl filled our order and everything was perfect...produce fresh, everything bagged beautifully. She called to substitute a yogurt flavor which was so nice. I might never "shop" again...lol. DO NOT BUY FLOWERS in the floral department of Dominion Valley Giant. If minus stars could be given- this is where they would go. The store manager nicely doubled my refund when nearly every single petal fell off the bouquet- purchased one hour earlier. We were astonished that a bouquet could look so perfect (Freedom roses), straight out of the flower fridge and collapse on removal from the cellophane. Fortunately it was a family event. But we'd have been mortified had we presented such a bouquet to a hostess. read more

About average. Its only about 2 miles from my home so I typically shop here as Wegmans is just a bit too far our of my way for daily grocery shopping. Stay AWAY from the seafood dept, last batch of catfish turned into rubber (couldn't even cut it with a hunting knife). Meats are average, good selection of regular staples. They are short staffed at the checkout lines, so I typically use self checkout. Its OK for convenience sake, but if you want GOOD fish, meats, produce, cheeses, breads, wines ... make the drive to Wegmans. read more

I tried to talk to a weekend manager about a product recommendation and she advised me it was better to submit my suggestion online. I come online to do that and am recommended to contact the department manager at my store. So, which is it. How about I just find another grocery store. It's not like competition isn't around. I have only had great experiences at this location. I'm there practically every day and never an issue. Everyone is friendly and helpful.

I honestly don't understand why this Giant scores so low. I have never had a problem at this location at all. The staff is always very nice and helpful. The store is always clean and well stocked. They have good, fresh produce. Their fish, deli, and meat counters and always well stocked and delicious (once prepared). The only issue I've ever had is with the grocery chain as a whole. That's the prices of items not for sale. If it's not for sale or a bonus buy, then it's usually absurdly pricey. So make sure that you check out the bonus buys and the sales flyer before you shop here. read more

This is my regular grocery store, I'd say I get roughly 95% of everything my family eats from this store. Its a clean store with a bunch of very nice employees. I'm unsatisfied with the seafood dept, there use to be two great ladies that were awesome to deal with, lately it's been a grab bag of dudes who act like they don't want to be working with fish. I always have to get an additional baggie to keep from getting fish residue all over the rest of my haul. I got crab legs a few weeks back and they only put them in a long paper bag. Had a pool of crab water in the bottom of my grocery bag when i got home, unpleasant. Dont let them take the skin off your salmon, they mangled mine and treated the fish with no respect. I recently asked someone in the baking dept if they had any brioche, they weren't sure. I asked about some bread they had out if it was at all similar to brioche, they didn't know. And then they added "the bread comes in frozen, we just put it out". Bummer. read more

Earlier this week I had to stop in here with a colleague to purchase water for an end-of-year party at our school. We each had one cart overflowing with both large water cases (16 total) and gallon water jugs (10 total). It was very difficult to maneuver the carts as well as unload them in the car. I was appalled after we left that not one SINGLE employee at the store asked us if we needed help with the carts or unloading them. We were clearly struggling and water even fell out of the cart at one point. And still no one offered to help. We must have passed about 5 employees too between cashiers, baggers, and yes, even store managers. Sad. read more

Gas price gouging! When the hurricane hit Houston, prices went up 50 cents a gallon. The places near Dominion Valley have traditionally been 20 cents cheaper than on my way to work in Chantilly. Now the gas stations near Chantilly have gone back down to $2.29, which means 7-11 and Giant should be around $2.09. They appear to be in collusion to keep gas at $2.45 out here. I hope others recognize this and take their business elsewhere. read more

Things are not improving...further evidence management does not acknowledge they have a problem. If you are going to implement a system that requires a manager to come to the checkout register every time you sell alcohol...maybe you should have a manager available to fulfill this task and stop making customers wait on an absentee manager. I have not seen the "Moon Dance" employee for a long time. I don't know if she "moon danced" her way out of a job or just transferred. I noticed the better employees are the very few high school and college students that work the registers.One day, I came in and was not certain where a specific item was. Well, the nicest young man (high school), extremely pleasant helped me to find it, but neither of us could find it. So, he said let me go get the manager on duty to find out if Giant carried the product. So, I waited there and he came back smiling with the manager and when they reached me, I explained what I was looking for and she literally went ballistic on me and this young man for disturbing her. She ended her tirade with "IF YOU DON'T SEE IT HERE, WE DON'T HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", and she stomped away in a rage without even waiting to hear if I had any other questions. The young mans eyes were as big as frying pans and his jaw was almost on the floor. I was in shock from her outburst and behaviour but managed to get out a "thank you". She didn't even acknowledge it. Well, for about a month or two after that, when I would come in, I would find her rude and incorrigable to I and others, but I bit my tongue and intentionally avoided her to keep from being provoked. Well, one day I came in and I lost my patience with her, but I did not say nothing to her. Instead, there were two teenage employees standing nearby and I made the comment to them that as much as I would love to see them succeed because THEY ARE excellent employees, I hope they never get promoted to manager at Giant because the managers are rude, they consider the customers not valuable enough to waste their time to say good morning/evening, to ask them if they are finding everything ok, if the customer has any questions/suggestions/complaints/etc. , they are verbally abusive to the customers and THAT ONE THERE IS THE WORST. I told them that the students here have the customer service skills that the managers and "fill in the blank managers" refuse to have. Well, it had been a while since I came back to Giant. I did not want to come but I needed something, so I came in and there she was. She saw me and came walking up towards me quickly " Hellooohhhhh! How are you doing" with a big smile on her face. I can't even recall ever seeing her this pleasant. It shocked me! I guess the kids told her what I said. Since my first comment, intentionally very little I go to Giant because they are overpriced and with the exception of the kids running the cash registers, Giant is rude and anti-customer. Even the "Upper Echelon Managers" don't even make ANY attempt to mingle with the customers. They stay up in the "rafters". They don't come down except to leave and I believe they have a separate entrance/exit so they will not have to share the entrances/exits with the customers. The Walmart Super Center is now open in Haymarket.(YEA!!! YOO HOO!!!!) and IT IS WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is better to go to Walmart, but if you HAVE TO GO to Giant..........................good luck! P.S. Giant: The only reason I am giving you two stars INSTEAD of one star is because of the kids. If you did not have the kids working the registers, you would only get one star. Really, you deserve ZERO STARS, but YELP requires at least one star. read more

The best things about this place are the pharmacy, the cashiers and the convenient hours. The two things I dislike are the lack of fresh vegetables on weekends and the constant harassment by local organizations at the door. I can't remember the last time I went to this giant and wasn't stopped by some kid and their mom raising money for a tournament trip. Usually they are polite and unobtrusive but the last two times the kids were blocking the doors and made me uncomfortable. I think better guidelines should be in place. I do support them usually but today I was sick and they were in my way and I had to run away. read more

Overall I like this store as it is convenient and has all of what I need and mostly of what I want. The store is clean. It has convenient hours. Strike that. The store has VERY convenient hours actually. I feel safe (never thought I would have that as a criteria in my America). Holiday hours never seem to be a problem or a question for this store for me either. If I want some specialty item I do go to a specialty store though--cheeses, wine, certain fish, etc. And that has happened. But I'm OK with that. I like having choices. And I don't want to buy *everything* in one place--that sets up monopolies, eliminates choice, and eliminates jobs. The older I get the more I have realized I have to "trust" the stores I shop with unfortunately. I never thought that would be in America but it has been an issue here and there recently. I trust this Giant's milk, eggs, cheese, meats, vegetables and fruits. I don't buy their fish or their deli items. So I cannot speak to those. That is not what I go to this store for. I will share that I have had three issues with this store over the last 10 years. One has been corrected. The others have not. They started a few years ago up until last year (I noticed) to remove their lettuce and vegetables early in the evening and not put it out until late morning. Not convenient. I complained in person twice. I went online and complained on their website a few times after not seeing any action from my in person complaints. But I am happy to report that early one morning and late one night I was able to shop for my fresh vegetables. Another issue I have had was that they stopped stocking two items that I routinely purchased. And from the fact that they were a lot of the times out of stock of these two items I'm guessing that others favored these two products, not just me. Over a year later they stopped carrying both items. I even spoke to one of the cashiers who spoke to one of the mgmt guys. They acted rather ignorant about my request actually. But again they don't carry the items anymore and I buy them elsewhere. Their loss I guess. But worth mentioning that they are knowingly cheating themselves out of a product favorite for their frequent shoppers (again not just me). The last issue is more general. While most of them are pleasant and a couple are friendly and chatty, I would say that they are not warm people. I would even say some of them are not very professional. There is a lot of gossiping. I have caught several of them loudly talking about their political views. Two even used to routinely accost me about their political proclivities. That is not the place for that. Some of them act as if I am there for them and they are not there to serve. Don't get me wrong I am not one of those people who treats people in service industries bad or expects special treatment. (I stack plates and push them to waiters and waitresses routinely. Someone pointed this out to me not to long ago when I never thought anything of it.) But some of these people act like they own their jobs and they could care less what the customers think or like. I guess they act like they are annoyed you are bothering them. I have had a few talk about other customers to me. While I may or may not have agreed with them that isn't professional. Basically they should be asking me if they can help. All the stock 'boys' do that. And always have. The women up front are the worst offenders as well as some of the male cashiers. I have had a couple of the male cashiers shove my receipt in my hand like 'get on out of here . . . I'm done with you . . . NEXT!'. Not professional. A couple of suggestions would be: stop locking the other door, get those carts out of the way of the coinstar/lotto machines, and do something about the lighting in your freezers. Hard to see what is in there. Also I don't know if this is a coincidence but I'm glad to see that the last few times I went to your store I didn't have to pass through either entering or exiting a gauntlet of civic groups collecting money. That is important of course. But they should be moved off to the side so people can go to them and you don't have to pass by them if you don't want to contribute. That is annoying. And some of those people are AGGRESSIVE. Since the pharmacy is a separate entity I will review them as such. read more
