I was at customer service trying to pay my bill as there was help needed to complete my transaction at self service. I spoke with Shaleia who did not know how to correct the mistake and she was extremely unprofessional and sadly very arrogant. I asked for a manager and the manager named Olivia came to customer service and she was no better as a manager. She had no customer service skills and she also did not know how to fix my bill. Instead of trying to help me, they both tried to stick together and say I was rude when I was merely just trying to purchase groceries. These people obviously should be moved where they don't have to deal with customers because they did a horrible job trying to fix something that was purely elementary. There were three people working behind the counter at customer service and when I came up all they were doing was talking and laughing and enjoying not working. While this is not my go to Giant, I found it just as easy to manage as my local Giant. I stopped by this Giant food around 8 am, so the amount of foot traffic was pretty minimal. Although I picked up only a few things, I did not see (in general) any outrageous prices. While I did not need any direct assistance from the staff, they seemed very willing to help out customers that needed help finding items. read more

This Giant is always so understaffed and so busy. It's surrounded by a ton of apartment buildings and residences so a lot of foot traffic from people walking every which direction in the parking lot. There are receipts, food wrappers, and other trash littered throughout the parking lot and front entrance. There's a security guard at the entrance to deter theft. The store itself has been renovated and is clean and well maintained, hence the rating. I come here out of convenience because I go to the neighboring Walgreens a lot, but the Burtonsville Giant is a better, calmer bet. read more

This is the closest Giant location to me, but I usually avoid it unless I'm going to another store in the shopping center, there's too much trouble here. I've seen a customer punched by another, because the first customer stopped and was standing in the middle of the narrow entrance to the store and the other customer went by him, which he took as disrespectful, so he chased him into the produce section and attacked him. I was going in the entrance once and 2 huge Giant employees were wrestling with a shoplifter, it was a brutal battle, but I couldn't get in until they subdued him. Good for the employees, but not ideal for customer confidence. After Covid, I began people blatantly shoplifting. They would load up a backpack or bag, walk through the self checkout and go straight out the door. Once, a guy with a backpack stuffed so full that you could see the outline of cans, boxes and wine bottles walked right by the female security guard, who was spilling the tea with the customer service desk. He looked at the security guard, she looked at him, saw what he was doing, he nodded, she nodded and he walked right out. I had to stop by last week and in the 50 foot sidewalk leading to the front door, there were 3 different panhandlers begging for money, 1 of them was clearly trying to intimidate people to get money. The store is crowded and generally speaking, this isn't the location where Giant seems to send it's best employees, it's more like the store that employees want to transfer out of. A few years ago, Giant opened a location a few miles up the road which is about the same size and is better in every way, that's where I shop 90% of the time now. Giant should shut this store down, I suspect the only reason they don't is because Montgomery County is strong arming them to keep it open. read more

I'm giving an updated review in light of covid. This isn't my go to giant location, but honestly I must say compared to other grocery stores that I've been to over the last month, this store was well stocked. Not like disinfectants and toilet paper stocked but they had just about everything I had on my list, minus yeast (guess everyone's baking)! They had meat (something many stores don't have right now). They are doing one way aisles like many other stores and limiting the number of customers in the store. And of course, you must wear a mask/face covering. The store hours are also limited! read more

My family has been shopping in this Giant since 1967. To that end I will always have a fondness for it. But as an actula store, MEH. It's croweded, dirty, disorganized and expensive. The staff works like they have the weight of the world on them. It sells what you need but waiting to pay for it can take way to long as it seems the management team has NO CLUE as to how to staff. Not a real shocker as staff scheduling is an issue every where. read more

I hate to use the term 'ghetto', but I agree with Ina that this Giant is not nearly as good as others nearby. I think, in general, the chain has gone downhill in quality since it was purchased by the large foreign conglomerate several years ago. Since then, my experience with this store has been that it has many VERY rude employees, long checkout lines, etc. Even though its location is very convenient for me, I will happily drive out of my way to avoid this store. Yes, it has beer & wine. I won't even attempt to explain the strange liquor laws in Montgomery County (it's not a Maryland problem), but according to the County website, there are only four grocery stores in the county that are permitted to sell beer & wine, those being 'grandfathered' prior to a law change. The story I always heard was that only one store of a chain (in the county) could sell alcohol. Yes, it has beer & wine, but the selection and price is not any better than the county liquor store in the same plaza, or at several other smaller stores in the area. read more

I was so surprised when I walked i here and saw the beer and wine for sale. Cold beer too! Cold Blue Moon Belgian White 6pks. for $7.49!! Those of you reading this who live in DC or VA may say, "Big Whoop!", but this is Montgomery County MD folks. I normally wouldn't shop here just because of the reputation of this location (See Ina C.'s review). It must have been remodeled in recent times. They have a great selections of gourmet cheeses. The wine and beer get their own entire aisle! I found the produce to be fresh. The avocados were just about ripe. They carry things my nearby Giant doesn't. did you know Phillip's Seafood makes a crab covered hot pretzel? They do!! Now, I am not about to drive out here for my regular shopping adventures ( I do find joy in food shopping), but if I am in the area i will pop in again. read more

This would be just another grocery store if it weren't for the parking. At all hours, inconsiderate people park their vehicles in the fire lane while waiting for someone to get into their car. As the street is a one way, it becomes very difficult to maneuver. There are always people walking around carelessly everywhere and usually people driving against traffic. It's always a hassle to shop in this place and I'm glad I'm moving from this shady area. This store also has a "convenient" shopping where you order groceries online and then they bring it to your car. The problem is that they may not be anyone outside to notice that you're there - so you have to find someone. You also have to pay close attention as they once tried to load someone else's groceries into my vehicle. Another time the groceries weren't complete and they had to run around finding items - I never used this service again. This place is inferior. read more

Like most Giant stores, this has not been remodeled or revamped since the 1960s. Interior decor is whitewashed with insane asylum type fluorescent flood lighting. Every square inch of the store is littered with junk to buy. On top of that, prices here are actually quite high compared to Wegman's and most of what you are buying is poorer quality compared to Wegman's or Costco. Sure, there is a "fancy" section for organic food and hipster brands like Kind Bar and Terra Chips. But the prices for those were sky high. Self-checkout is a must here as they had only one cashier on staff and have reduced the number of traditional checkout lines drastically. The self-checkout process was relatively painless, though it could use some updating as you need to go back and forth between the payment machine and the main touch screen more than once to succeed. read more

It beats the hell out of the shitty Safeway in Hillandale. Why I like the Giant? I like their organic section, instead of having to drive far to Whole Foods, I can get by with their organic section. I have to give this location 4 stars because they carry "La Brea Bakery" bread. I've longed for it and finally found it here. The manager was helpful when I asked how often and what types of breads they will be getting from the California bakery. It also sells beer and wine, which apparently most grocery stores in MD don't. This is news to me. They don't have great produce but I usually go to Whole Foods for my produce anyway. The Boar's Head deli counter is good. They have a little British section where I could buy PG Tips, Hobnobs, and other stuff. The ethnic sections are fair. I like the fact that they basically have a drug store inside. I don't see anyone I know here. I am not posing next to the liter bottles or cruising the kotex aisle but I grew up in the area and have never seen a person I have known in that store. Now, at least, they don't put me through the ID check. I just swipe my card, look down and grind my teeth at the auto-clerk's auto-bitch- "you are purchasing a restricted item." It must be brewed in a different facility apart from beer that tastes good or by the subterranean alt-shift of hateful people who like to punish those of us that need it enough to be out so late yet who haven't planned far enough ahead to get it earlier from somewhere else. There is a sense one gets walking through the beer aisle that whoever is tending their selection has embraced a particular theme all the way down, a low-rent egalitarianism, a bleak dog and pony communism. Like no matter what label you choose it will most likely taste like the one three over or seven before, carbonated just enough to whisper to you as you open "ss' orry man this is as good as its going to get tonight." You can see sins in the cold totalitarian light of that store, makes the shopping decisions easier I guess. I try not to look up. Its the light of being forced awake for 3 days straight. Budget-selecting items in a tank of GE's new line of life deterring light bulbs "Lite-Green Amphetamine"...bananas, or alcohol? Those kinds of decisions, under those condition in that store follow you home, unpack themselves and wait on the couch for you. I'm giving three stars because this store has a "health food" section. My local Safeway closed and I miss the LARGE organic produce section that Safeway had. Coming to this Giant location in White Oak -- the only organic produce I see are grape tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, and grapes. I only come to this location for last minute items. If you are concerned about what chemicals are being sprayed on your produce like me, I would suggest hitting up the Giant location in downtown Silver Spring - across the street from the metro station. Their organic produce section is a little bit larger and has more variety. If I cannot find what I'm looking for, then I head over to Whole Foods which can be a little more pricier. read more

On June 22, 2021 around 4:00 pm. I went to the Giant in the White Oak shoppong center to purchase a birthday cake and mylar ballons for my mother's 100th birthday. I want to compliment every Giant employee I encountered that day. The employees in the bakery department, the cashier that checked me out, the manager at the Customer Service desk, and the young man in the flower shop who blew up the ballons. All were efficient, kind, and caring. I really appreciated all of their help in aiding me to accomplish my tasks in the store. Kudos to all of you that helped me. read more

I used to live across the street. This strip mall has changed over the years. The one constant anchor in this little area has been Sears. Giant is large and clean but I didn't see many employees. It looks like management is trying to push customers into using the self service lines instead of having someone ring up your groceries. Besides not wanting to lose my coupon credit, I actually like chatting with a human when buying groceries. Make sure you have your own bags if using the self checkout register. MOST miserable service. Our grocery pick up time was 3-4 pm. We got there at 3:30 pm and were told to come back in one hour. At 4:30 pm pick up still not ready. They wouldn't answer phones including one from their toll free customer service department. Had to go in at 5:15 pm Manager too busy to talk and Order was still not ready. Wait time for check-out is not unreasonable and self check-out is an option. While customer service can be friendlier, it's not terrible. Prices are fine and not too outrageous. Giant foods is always clean and fun to go through. Their prices are a little more expensive than Safeway, but much closer to me. I love their peepod delivery service when in a rush but I really enjoy walking through their stores and picking up new and exciting foods! Everyone at every store I have ever been to has been super nice!! The silver spring, md store on east west highway and colesville road was one I frequented all the time! I kind of hate this place, the only reason I go is because it's literally across the street. The lines here are long and the prices aren't great. Been going to this store for many years; used to live in a apartment right across the street. It has done downhill badly. Floor is cluttered; checkout is very slow; they want everyone to use self-checkout. As you walk into the store, you may walk by a scowling, rude security guard; no excuse for that.
