I find some of these reviews questionable - or biased. Leetsdale GE is a smaller store than some, but still offers reasonable variety. The produce is fresher! than many competing stores and lasts for a longer time in my fridge. Have never heard any people yelling and do not find it unkempt - ever. Store has competitive sales. I've been shopping here since it opened - moving towards 50 years. Pharmacy personnel are exceptionally helpful and accommodating. If I had to choose one supermarket in the area, this one would be it. read more

They continue to KEEP the side door to the pharmacy locked PERMANTLEY, so even when the drive thru is closed (which is getting more frequent because of employee call offs) any people with walking issues have to walk the entire length of the LONG narrow store to get their refills, management doesn't seem to agree with my thoughts and complaint ! read more

I was outraged at the conduct of one employee. This wss am elder man who stood with his hands is pockets. I was looking for a handicapped scooter and upon asking him he very sarcastically looked and put his out and said no scooters. He didn't offer to see if he was able to locate one. A complaint was made to management. They claimed they would speak with him then. I waited 10 min after leaving and I figured mngmt was just appeasing me. The size of this particular location is a bit alarming. Especially since they have attempted to pack everything you would find in a larger store into this smaller space. It's newly remodeled much like other stores and it looks like the normal GE you would see anywhere else. I stopped in here to purchase several prepared foods for a picnic. I was slightly disappointed in the taste of the deviled eggs, potato salad, and pierogies. I enjoyed the fried chicken, pineapple, macaroni salad, meatloaf, strawberry parfait, and flavored water. I had difficulty finding plates and plastic ware. read more

I've been in many grocery stores in my lifetime, and usually, they're all pretty much the same. Even in the Pittsburgh area, most are pretty standard stuff. Somehow though, this Giant Eagle manages to set a really low bar for service. The majority of the experience is fine. They have the same foods you expect, the people at the deli counters are nice, and everything is clean. The store is not well lit, I assume this is an attempt to save money on the part of the management rather than an attempt to make the grocery store more romantic. In my trips here, everything was fine until you get to the checkout lines. First of all, it's pretty much always just a step below Thanksgiving here in terms of lines. They all are at least seven people deep pretty constantly. This seems to mostly be due to the fact that they never have more than one or two actual cashiers, since most of the registers have been converted into forced self-checkout. I'm used to self-checkout, but it's ridiculous to do when you have a huge grocery basket. Most stores only use self-checkout for small orders, not for everything. The other problem with the self-checkout machines here is that they are buggy and problematic, and seem to require more button presses than other grocery stores. The main thing that came to mind while waiting in the self-checkout line and waiting for the frustrated people in front of me to be able to get through (and the frustrated elderly cashier responsible for all the self-checkout machines) was the lack of people working there, especially teenagers. In most grocery stores, you see lots of teens working to make some extra money. Here, the few workers you see are usually retirees trying to make a little money, but aren't really up to the challenge of standing on their feet all day and thinking quickly. They also have absolutely no baggers. I don't know if the managers hate teenagers or what the problem is, but considering the amount of crime in the Leetsdale area due to teens that can't find work, you'd think the management would hire a few and try to make things better for society and the customers. The few people you do find working there, as I said before, all retirees, is that they have an attitude problem. I've been sliding credit cards since I was 18 years old. I'm fully capable. There's no need to get an attitude problem. Even worse, the manager there looked like a mentally deficient Mr. Noodles (from Elmo's World) standing there in what appeared to be a drunken stupor at the front of the store watching the customers get angry, his workers get angry, and long lines pile up. At most grocery stores, managers try to help out and either call in some cashiers for extra pay or they at least open up a register to try to help get the lines down. This manager, who appeared intoxicated, did absolutely nothing but stand there. Overall, I think you're better off driving across the bridge to the Giant Eagle on University. There you'll find a normal, good grocery store experience. Avoid this one at all costs. read more

Over the years I have become increasingly more disappointed with this Giant Eagle. Prices are high and quality is low. This is particularly true of produce and baked goods. Items that were once stock items such as Pepperidge Farm stuffing, Western Egg beaters and low fat Kiefer are no longer stocked. Other items are difficult to find as the organization of foods makes no sense. As stated by other customers, there is never enough staff working at the check out counters. I would rather support the local market Safran's or drive across the river to Moon township. read more

This has to be one of the most unfriendly Giant Eagle stores I have ever been in. The employees when not huddling talking to each other, are completely disinterested in having conversation with the customers. Management needs to get a grip! I'll make the drive to Market District. read more

Giant Eagle food stores continue to cut staff and offer less and less support to customers. It is so obvious to the customer that the bottom line is so much more important than offering good service. On a typical weekend day, Giant Eagle has two cashiers working and one manager that runs around trouble shooting constant issues with their self check-out. The local mom and pop grocery store (Safran's) has far more cashiers (and it happens to be a 10th of the size of Giant Eagle) working. Start serving your customers, Giant Eagle! read more

Most of the time, it is people who have a gripe who send in reviews. I admit, I like this store and I usually shop here at least a couple of times a week. Sales are usually pretty good. The Giant Eagle Advantage card gives me extra savings with the Offer of the Week, the Weekly Meal Deal, special pricing on certain foods, and points for gasoline. The bundle packs in the meats department and frozen foods where you can buy 5 items for a reasonable price helps with family purchases. This store was remodeled a couple years back. It caused lots of frustrations in that they did it right before the holidays when most of us just needed to be able to run in and grab a few items, only to find that nothing was where it "belonged". Now that things have been stable for some time, it's easy enough to find things now. I agree that some of the items mentioned by other reviewers can be an issue, but I do think they have been working on bringing deficits up to speed. In general, I have found personnel helpful, but it is true that there aren't a lot of them. The check-out area usually has only 2 or 3 real cashiers and the rest are the self check-out (which I don't like either.) They have hired a number of younger cashiers, who seem to be capable. And Roberto, who usually is down towards the end couldn't be friendlier and more helpful. I admit, there is one woman who is like a female Tim Conway when it comes to speed (for all you youngsters out there, look up Carol Burnett TV show clips of the old fireman) My frustration with the hot foods table is that not all the foods are labeled and it usually sells out rather quickly so that if I don't show up until 1:30 looking for lunch, there's a not a lot of anything left and often large gaps where foods have sold out. One of the new sections is a large shelf by the back door, near the bank, which has all the reduced items for you to browse. While some of them are close to the expiry date, most have plenty of time left on them and we have been able to find some interesting bargains. They've also done a decent job on stocking gluten-free items mostly in their own section. The bakery has always been very helpful (although I was disappointed when they stopped selling individual cookies, like thumbprints) I think it's worth the trip. read more
