I am echoing the previous reviews that expressed an unpleasant experience at a store with gorgeous, albeit expensive, clothes. The owner became unwelcoming when I declined interest for a $400 silk shirt. Mind you, I didn't try it on or unfold it. You know how you see a dude leaving the Engineer's Club and wonder "where does one buy a burnt umber driving shoe with a royal crest atop it?" ...or perhaps: "I live in Pigtown and don't own a car, where can I buy clothes from the back of that man-lawyer magazine that I steal from my neighbor's mailbox?" The answer: here. The clothes here are top-shelf. There is a tailor on call. The employees are also really helpful. Also, I once spilled coffee on my tie, had a big meeting and this was the only place in Mt Vernon where I could run out and buy another one (60 bills!). So why three stars and a half? Because the size selection here is lacking (though this may be because it is a small shop). And because the prices are just so high. If I could afford to drop 1,200 on a blazer, maybe I could appreciate it more. Until then (read: never), I will continue looking in the window and thinking I'd rather go to Italy than buy a pair of shoes that'd pay my way there. read more

The clothes are fantastic in many cases. But the selection is so limited, and new merchandise so infrequent that popular sizes sell down to a handful of pieces. And yes, the prices are very dear. The service is good, if a bit obtrusive. I prefer to browse through clothes on my own first, without someone following me around and making suggestions. Yeah, I was looking at that jacket, and that shirt and those cords would go nicely with it, but you're being distracting and I'm not looking to be "styled". That being said, I now have a pair of Italian merino flannel trousers that fit like a glove and are phenomenally comfortable and sharp-looking. I would consider Gian Marco an option for investment woolens in classic cuts. read more

Want to look like a million bucks? This is the place to come in Baltimore for the finest Italian and German designer menswear. Be sure to bring a credit card with a high limit-- this place ain't cheap. But their stuff is incredibly well made; the fabrics are of the highest quality and everything here is in the best of taste. You can easily tell the difference between a suit bought here and one purchased at a department store. Run by the guys who used to work at Bernard Hill till it closed in the early 90's, Gian Marco specializes in designer menswear from Europe. They just don't sell you a suit, they put together a look complete with accessories. You can leave here with everything to need to dress for success and to impress. From socks and underwear to shoes and shirts and ties and jackets, a complete haberdasher for guys who want to make a statement. They don't buy lots of the same item so you are assured that nobody else will be wearing the same suit. Their casual wear is also a cut above anything you'll find at the mall. Mark Sklar and the rest of the staff have impeccable taste and won't let you leave without the perfect ties and shirts to match your suits. And while you pay for the exquisite quality of their menswear, this stuff is so well made that it will go out of style and then come back in before it wears out. I have sweaters that I bought from Bernard Hill over 30 years ago that still look new and feel terrific. Gian Marco carries many of the same small Italian designers that made Bernard Hill the place for well dressed men to shop in the 80's. So bring your credit card and let these guy dress you in finery. If you want to splurge on luxury menswear then go to Gian Marco and you will not look nouveau riche. This is Baltimore's home for understated elegance. read more

I visited here 4 times. Customer service is very poor and uncomfortable. They follow you and harass you as if you were a thief. When I bought a shirt which was $250, they lied to me that it fits me well and looks good as I was trying it on. I knew it is not but I always tailer my shirt to fit my size anyway and I liked the fabric so I bought it. But I didn't like that they say whatever they need to say for selling overpriced items not caring of customer's benefit. Don't go here. You will be ripped off. read more

Recently I was on the train to DC and having a conversation about clothes with a well dressed guy. As we were discussing different places in Balt to get clothes I brought up Gian Marco. He warned me to stay away but I've bought a few things from this store over the years (shirts, pants, ties) and thought I'd give them a try for a suit. I should say I've always had questions about the quality of their products, but after this recent debacle I've got to just say the whole experience was horrible. Their tailor is insufferable; he hacked up my suit and they're still trying to get it right while giving me attitude. The owner thinks he knows it all and doesn't try to keep the customer happy. If you know clothes and appreciate good service, then this is not the place for you. Stay away! read more

Will never shop here again. Made me feel "unqualified"...perhaps it was the color of my skin? Even though I make over 200K per year...I was treated poorly, with disrespect. Perhaps I wasn't dressed right. Regardless, they are extremely overpriced. Nice clothes indeed...but why should I spend my retirement money here? There are plenty of shops I could recommend over this...and I still look and feel like a milion bucks! Not worth the trip and dealing with a snooty owner. I never write reviews but I need to share this. Mister Dian Marco treated me with disrespect. I came in one day to get myself measured. I asked kindly and the owner was a total idiot. He first told me to go somewhere else and then told me he would charge me 100 dollars. I told him I was willing to pay for his time, but 100 dollars was an absurd amount. He did this in front of other costumers and employees at the store. read more

Gian Marco is a great store for people who don't know anything about clothes and think spending a lot of money equals good quality and good value. The prices are very high for the quality of clothes offered. The in-house tailor is poor. Over the years I've both a few shirts there and a pair of pants or two, but after them giving a fair shake I've concluded I can't shop there and can't recommend them. This was my second store experience, the first time two years earlier was not nearly as good as this recent experience. I was going to purchase a new suit and for years have gone to Nordstrom to buy them. Since I live close to Gian Marco I decided to stop in for a second time to see if there was a good experience to be had before deciding if I wanted to go on to Nordstrom. When I entered the store I was pleasantly greeted by John and immediately felt a comfortable vibe. John took plenty of time to show me their selection of suits, for a small store there were plenty of them to choose from. Not that Nordstrom does not have some good quality suits, but vs Gian Marco's suits, the money is the same $900.00-$1500.00, but the overall styles, fabric feel, fit and finish, this is where I will now purchase my suits. In addition there was generally a good selection of everything from casual dress to the hand tailored. I strongly recommend that you take the time to peruse this store for men's fine clothing. Unlike department stores, Gian Marco's is easily accessible and plenty of street side parking. read more
