The room we decided to try and conquer was Submarine: The Unknown Abyss. The story of the room was You and your team have adventured on a journey in search of a mysterious, abandoned submarine. Which the legend says, comes to the same spot of the water once a year. They say the captain, which was mad, took steam punk inventions and incorporated them into the mysterious submarine. They say the submarine didn't use any fuel, and moved like a living creature. In the captains last records there was something about the submarine having a heartbeat, and that begun to beat slower and slower. The way you beat the room and escape is that you must solve all the puzzles and decipher all the clues, to make your way into the Captain's Quarters and take control of the Submarine back to port. My family worked extremely well together and we were given five clues from Brandon to help us on our mission. My daughter and son who was the birthday boy did masterful job on solving lot of the puzzles. We were given sixty minutes to escape the room which we did with exactly 2:51 left on the timer clock. If you looking for a great family adventure with thrilling twist and turns plus challenging puzzles I would definitely check out Escape Medina.

We took…read moremy kids and my daughter's boyfriend with us and when we bought tickets the sales lady suggested we get the speed pass since it was a busy night and the lines were long. I asked her if it was worth it and she said, "I think so". I wasn't sure, but for only $10 more per person, we went ahead and bought fast passes. On a non-busy night, I wouldn't suggest that, but on this night, it was totally worth it. The construction of the buildings throughout the place was very well done. Top notch in terms of build quality - they spared no expense, even of the places out in the woods. They were built to last. The wait in each line was about 30 minutes long. With the fast pass, we walked straight past the line and there was no waiting at all. That was a total win and my family was very appreciative of the additional investment. We were in and out of the place in just over an hour. Otherwise, it would've been closer to three hours. First, we rode the hay ride, which included actors chasing you and telling gruesome stories along with animatronics. People were screaming and trying to hide from the monsters, but there is nowhere to go on a hay ride. Chainsaws. Lots of chainsaws. Next, we walked the haunted trail, which was pretty cool. Then we visited the haunted house. It was very cool. The actors pay much more attention to people who are act scared, so there's a pro tip for you. Don't act scared and they won't bother you. Afterwards, we munched on some chili cheese fries and regular french fries while sitting around the warm bonfire. They were pretty tasty. I definitely recommend this place if you haven't visited before.

Being the apocalypse, one can't expect things to be the same as they were. The lacking of animals and the decrease in actors is balanced by the dedication and care of the employees present, as well as the quiet and calm of the site. Lisa with the textiles (I believe she is actually a program director) was friendly and truly was experienced in her field. Pattie, the cow handler, the broom maker, and the young lady at the sandstone house were all very pleasant. The majority of the Farm and Village are open, but there are significantly less animals. Two Oxen (are they just cows when off work so long? Lol), a few sheep, and a flock of chickens- and we saw a wild mink by the stream near the Log Schoolhouse. Staffing seemed very short, but the propertly was extremely clean and well kept. Although the site says there is a limit to 50 visitors each hour, there were no more than 20 people there including my wife and the staff. My only complaints are that the website doesn't seem to have been updated since 2018, still saying admission is $10, when it's $12. Not unreasonable, but I do have to complain that there is a $4.95 processing fee for their ticket broker. It would be nice to be able to reserve a spot and pay in person, rather than pay another website just for doing a transaction for them. Finally, while there please check out the gift shop. A surprising amount of things are actually made on the farm by their staff.

Over the years, she visited this establishment multiple times through school-organized field trips. Her earlier experiences seemed educational and age-appropriate, but her final visit in 8th grade was traumatizing and completely unacceptable. On her first visit, she was a young child, excited to explore history. She remembers playing with wooden toys and engaging in fun, interactive activities. It was a harmless and enjoyable experience. On her second visit in 4th grade, the experience was still fairly lighthearted--she milked cows, churned butter, and watched glassblowers at work. It seemed like a continued effort to connect children with the past in a safe and engaging way. But her third visit in 8th grade took a shocking and horrifying turn. During this "A Fugitive's Path: Escape on the Underground Railroad" experience, my sister and her classmates were: Placed in shackles and treated like slaves Forced to simulate escaping through the Underground Railroad Exposed to the sound of blank bullets being shot into the air Surrounded by the cracking of whips Yelled at and intimidated by adults playing the roles of slave catchers or owners This wasn't education--it was trauma packaged as a learning experience. As her older sibling, hearing her describe the fear, humiliation, and confusion she felt during this simulation was gut-wrenching. I cannot understand how any school district, let alone an educational institution trusted with children's development, would approve of such a psychologically scarring experience. How could you slowly build a relationship with this place over several years, only to subject children--still minors--to a reenactment of slavery that includes the sounds of gunfire and whips? What kind of message does that send? What makes anyone believe that this is appropriate or effective? Let me be very clear: no child should ever have to go through this. Teaching about the horrors of slavery is important--but traumatizing children in the process is not education. It's irresponsible and deeply damaging. To the school district and the organizers of this program: What made you think this was okay? You crossed a line that should never be crossed. You failed these students. As a sibling, I'm heartbroken. And as a community member, I'm calling for serious accountability and immediate re-evaluation of what is considered "educational." This should never happen again--to any child, in any school, anywhere. This event took place in 2013-2014 school year however her trauma is still valid in 2025!!!!!!!!

I've been here twice recently: once for trick or treat with my son and once for a holiday open…read morehouse specifically for members of a couple other historical sites in Akron. Both times were interesting and I learned a lot at the open house. The trick or treat was more fast-paced, so not a lot of time to ask questions about the history, but the open house was very relaxed and I had lots of great conversations with the docents. This house is very haunted, especially by Martha in the upstairs bedroom in the back of the house. I also walked over to the John Brown house. I had never been there. I am still confused about who exactly John Brown was. He was loved and hated; he was revered and despised. That house is much smaller than the Perkins house, but it is open to the public and there is some interesting history there too. They were also housing an art exhibit featuring barns of Ohio. (See my photo with this). My son's favorite part of our October visit to Perkins was the sheep grazing on the lawn outside with the beautiful autumn colors in the background. I learned the other day that they are "borrowed" for the summer and autumn, and then go to warmer pastures in the summer.

It was a really well-done event and I thoroughly enjoyed this venue. The polar vortex made me a little dizzy- that was the ONLY part that was not enjoyable for me, but everything else was on point. The boozy hot chocolate (try the peppermint or the peanut butter!) and the singing reindeer were my favorite things there. There are many photo ops and lots of really creative and gorgeous displays. Santa Claus has his own photo area and the Grinch was roaming freely when I was there. I didn't try the snowball fight or the virtual reality sleigh ride, but those sounded fun too. The bar areas were intricately designed and I really loved the theming. Give this place a shot- the pricing seems pretty reasonable for as much as you get. I can't wait to come back with my son!
