The Victorian mansion is ornate and makes you feel the weight of its history. The ornate stonework, hidden passageways, and eerie ambiance all add to its mysterious charm. It's definitely picture-worthy whether you're walking by or walking in. The event organizers were friendly. I was at the castle for pop art show held by Zack Webb. It was so fun to see the juxtaposition of history/antique and bright pop art. There was no guided tour, just a hang out in the main area of the house, and basement lounge (both very cool). If you're into history, architecture, or the paranormal, Franklin Castle is a must-see. Although I didn't see or feel any ghosts. It's equal parts creepy and captivating. Whether you're a Clevelander or a visitor, go see it!

Reason being I moved out of Ohio and before that I lived about three hours away from it's old location, near (now) Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky. That said, it impressed me even then with its combo stylishness/slyness. It's not enough to just scream and pop out. That's cheap. You have to be creative and use standard props in an interesting way. Hauntville did and does this. I visited them this Halloween season in the Elyria location and despite being woefully understaffed the creativity remained in high order. one of the most interesting psychological elements was in the Prison house. Not to spoil the surprise but the Warden character (good actor, btw) was always in an "elevated state," making the customer feel more helpless. Little atmospheric touches like this abound, especially in the succinct but suspenseful "Unknown" pitch black maze with multiple awesome "fun house" elements mixed in. Hauntville has HIDDEN RIDES within a few rooms. So fun. AND more BIG HEAD PUPPETS than any other haunt which are more customizable than animatronics, especially when the actors are strong and they are here. You can tell they care. Most of them could improv for days, especially the ticket taker at the Haunted Bayoo/Shanty house. (How many people can riff about "sister-cousins" breathlessly for ten mins straight?) I didn't feel like I was going to fall through the floor at several points like before, but still the same tired design. Same tired makeup. Same tired lines. For a group that calls themselves "The Legion of Terror" the only thing scary are the sexual assault rumors being spread and their poor attempts to recruit young kids into their group. I wouldn't recommend supporting here. I'm not even sure it's worth to try to go back another year looking for improvements because if you go once, you're good for 10 years. Sad. We learned about the murder and the suspects. Then we all went outside for an hour to look for the hidden clues for Who did it. In the program is a page to fill out with the clues you find and the name of the alleged murderer. Then you submit your information online or by turning it in. Then, back at the theater, we learned more about the suspects alibis, and we learned who the murderer was. The attendee who got everything correct won a gift basket that included tickets to an upcoming show. Memberships are available or buy single tickets to shows. VIP tickets include hors d'oeuvres and beverages before the show and dessert afterward. We had a wonderful evening. Parking can be difficult to find so give yourself plenty of time.

I didn't realize that the theatre itself is inside the massive 78th street studios, which houses galleries, the 3rd Fridays art/gallery event, boutique shops from local businesses, and more. The theatre is on the 2nd floor of the 78th street studios. As I entered, I was lost and the random people that I asked couldn't help which was frustrating at best. I then ran into someone who was looking for the theatre like myself so we helped each other find it. Eventually, we saw signs leading us to the theatre and arrived with a minute or so to spare before the show started. The theatre itself is small and intimate. There is a stage up in the front-center plus a sound booth behind the stage. I enjoyed the play Altar Boyz but some parts were a bit offensive to the Christian religion but I suppose that was the point of the play. The actors, which were all male, did a great job. Kudos first to the Science Center staff, from Xander at the ticket desk to the folks working exhibits, the security guards, and finally the corporate staffer who opened the door after hours to help me find an object I'd forgotten, this is a group of friendly, competent, kind people who embody customer service. What a treat! The movie itself was enlightening and entertaining and the interactive exhibit further enhanced the experience. Returning to the Science Center will be a pleasure, made even more affordable thanks to the annual membership I decided to purchase. I look forward to going with friends and will encourage them to bring students, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren for a fun (truly fun) time.

We went to Timberfire for dinner. Again, the venue is really unexpected and intriguing. I really enjoy being in the space. The entire staff is very friendly, efficient, and accommodating. After dinner we asked to see the "Janitor's Broom Closet". Which is a marvelous Speakeasy tucked away behind the janitor's room. It was Soooo much fun. That alone will bring us back again... soon. This is a marvelous concept establishment. You really must experience it for yourself. I guarantee you've never seen anything like it.

Gorgeous building, friendly staff, but after walking inside we stayed for less than 10 minutes. In my opinion, it was an odd vibe. Honestly, we were confused as to what the main attraction was... everything was separated and felt very cold. Not the warm, bustling community hall feeling I expected. Concessions is simply reheated food and snacks. There is a grab and go frozen food section. The screen area was playing the soccer game, but the room was empty. We reviewed the menu for Timber Fire thinking we would have dinner, but there was very little that grabbed our attention... Ultimately, thankful we did not make the trip just for this venue and happened to be in the neighborhood.
