Authentic Bangladeshi food with an ambience that transports you to Bangladesh. The servers are very friendly as well. That said, Bangladeshi food is not for everyone. If you have high spice tolerance and don't mind an unhealthy amount of oil in your food, you will absolutely fall in love with Ghoroa.

Toronto doesn't have the largest Bengali population compared to other metropolis's (e.g New York, London and Los Angeles) but it is definitely a growing sub-culture. Even tho some of the more esteemed "Indian Food" restaurants are Bengali owned and operated (e.g Copper Chimney), they tend to have more generic Indian choices (butter chicken, tikka masala). Items that are known to most people. Gharoa is based in an area which has a high concentration of Bengali's and is one of the few places in this city where the menu is made and catered for authentic bengali food. It is a hole in the wall and the place is usually rammed (they have a giant staff) but the demand is thru the roof. I was lucky enough to get a seat and order some fuchka- which is the bengali take on pani puri. It was delicious. I tried the Haleem and it was very good as well. I must agree with a reviewer from the past. The KACHI biryani was out of this world. I couldnt stop eating, even past the point of my hunger (large portion). I am sold. Ghoroa translates to "like home" and my stomach agree's with that sentiment.

    Beautiful map of Bangladesh!

Excellent place to go for appetizers/snack items but it's almost always too crowded during evening time, wish they made the store a lot more spacious! Love the food and the service.

We found this place based on a yelp search. Consistent with the other reviews. Super tasty hole in the wall place. Found that a lot of dishes were quite similar to other Indian dishes but spicier. Constant flow of people ordering food. A lot of food for a fair price (all the food in the picture plus 2 chai tea was $25). Enough easily for 3-4 people so are happy to take home leftovers :)

Cheap food at hot spice levels served by gracious ladies. Hole in the wall popular with locals: that's it in a nutshell!

The service is excellent and the servers and very quick-the food comes out in timely manner. We ordered the fuchkas which are hollow crispy balls with spicy potatoes/chickpeas/chutneys/yogurt topped with sev. It was perfect definitely recommending it. For the mains I ordered the fried pomfret which was super fresh and perfectly seasoned and topped with fried onion. Very delicious. Next with the shrimp Malia curry with rice or pulao as the name suggests it's a creamy shrimp curry. I absolutely loved this dish. There was so much more on their menu that I wanted to try-will definitely be going there again to try out some new things. It's a nice and warm feeling restaurant serving quality food and pricing is pretty standard to other restaurants serving similar food. There is parking outside the place but limited. Great work team. As soon as I walked in I could smell some amazing cook working their kitchen magic with some exotic spices AH YES! Pretty roomy with booths and tables good for big groups, and even a playroom for the kiddos. Simple decor but I loved the texture and design of the walls in the dining room and women's washroom. Told the hostess/waitress/cashier I've never tried Bangladeshi food before so she suggested the Chicken Roast+Polau+(hard boiled) Egg and the Bhuna Khichuri + Beef. So grateful they had free Wifi to keep me busy during the short wait. Tried the Chicken Roast first. Oh my! It was absolutely delicious! There were two pieces of tender chicken covered in a thick, delectable, medium spicy sauce; hubby and I devoured it all! The Pulao (rice pilaf) was bland and I didn't care for the hard boiled egg. Next was the Bhuna Khichuri + Beef; it was just ok. The beef was swimming in oil, so I had to fish out the chunks and put them on top of the Bhuna Khichuri (rice and lentils). The Beef was totally overshadowed by the chicken roast. Next time I will order the Chicken roast with the more flavorful Bhuna Khichuri rice. I will be back to try out more menu items so I can bump up their rating, but in the meantime I'll give it a solid 3 stars.

The people by the counter also always get sidetracked and distracted. In the middle of placing orders, they allow themselves to be interrupted by other customers or phone calls. They should at least finish attending to a customer start to finish before moving on to the next one. Another bad thing is that once any dish or food is finished and ready to be served, the lady will just shout across the dining area announcing that the dish is ready to be picked up. At least their food prices are reasonable and maybe even a little less than average. Our order of 2 dishes, plus an appetizer of veggie pakora, and a dessert of rasmali just amounted to around low to mid $30. Their butter chicken is different than the typical one you get from Indian restaurants. It still has some bone in it, and the gravy is made sweet. I still did like how the butter chicken tasted, but that is just my personal preference. I only found it too inconvenient to eat with some naan because of it still having the chicken bone.
