Oh, I really want to like this place more than I do, and I have to point out this review is based on 2 trips to Ghiloni's for fish & chips takeaways.
We have just moved to this area, and were on a quest to find a great fish & chip takeaway. Having previously had a terrible experience with fish & chips in Bishopbriggs, someone on Twitter recommended Ghiloni's.
I love that this is a long-established family business, and it is always busy both times I have been in. The takeaway area is a small area separate to the dining in area, and as well as having a huge takeaway menu, it is a sweet shop heaven. Glass cabinets bulging with jars of sweeties, and trays of ice-cream seem to sparkle and shine when you walk in!
So down to the business of the fish and chips. After our first visit, I think I would have rated it as a 3-4, the fish was fresh although the batter a little heavy and the chips were moreish!
However, our last trip to Ghiloni's for fish & chips was incredibly disappointing. Both the fish and the chips were very greasy and heavy, and left a funny aftertaste in my mouth. When I scraped away the batter I found the fish mushy, and lacking in quantity. The fish:batter ratio was not good, with far more batter than fish!
I think we should try it again, as this appears to be a local institution, and I want to love it! But, I must say I am a little reluctant to go back and pay for what we experienced on our last visit! read more
