The only major complaint I have about Billington's is that is isn't closer to my house! I'd seen…read morethem pop up on Twitter a few times and I do love me a good deli, so I popped in here today on my way home from work. I'd promised myself to try and only spend a tenner and it's a good thing I did - or I might have bought the entire shop! Having drooled over their photos on social media I decided I had to get a couple of quiches for me and my Mum - goats cheese and asparagus were the ones on offer and I managed to snap up the last two! They also stock Poporopo popcorn which I devoured at the Yelp quiz night at the Sparkle Horse back in November, so I was pretty excited to be able to get my hands on some more. (Peanut butter caramel, yum!) I also picked up a bottle of Caesar Augustus because beer. I spent a few pennies over a tenner which I thought was pretty good for the amount and quality of stuff I got! They have a good selection of different beverages like beer, wine and soft drinks including Fentiman's. You can get sandwiches made up and they have loads of different meats and cheeses too! I noticed they had a fair few baked goods but I didn't let myself have a proper look at them because I knew that would be dangerous - from the quick glance I had they did look pretty darned tasty though! I was also sorely tempted to buy a mahoosive pork pie, but on this occasion I managed to resist. Another time perhaps! The staff were lovely the whole time I was in and the place has a really friendly and welcoming vibe to it. They also have a wee sit in bit so I think it would be really lovely to come back for something to eat and a coffee. You can expect a review update when I do, I don't think it will be too long before that happens, hope so anyway!

What a lovely deli! I popped here for a morning tea meet up with the lovely Alison M, and was…read morereally impressed with the place. There aren't enough nice little delis around any more and Billington's is really special. We were sitting in at the few seats at the front - there's probably about 10 seats so I can imagine on the week it would get pretty busy. I was just having a cup of tea, they take orders at the counter and they also have a nice selection of baked goods. On my way out, I decided to grab a couple of items to takeaway. They've got booze, condiments and a delicious fresh counter which looks really good. I got two pizza-type breads to take home topped with tomato and goat's cheese for £2.50 each (I wish I could remember what they were called - see photo!) as well as a chocolate brownie for my choc-addict husband. When I was paying for these, I noticed they sell teeny bottles of booze so got a bottle of Rock Rose gin to try before committing to a full bottle - great idea! I would definitely head back to this lovely deli when I'm in the area again. Well worth a visit!

We have just moved to this area, and were on a quest to find a great fish & chip takeaway. Having previously had a terrible experience with fish & chips in Bishopbriggs, someone on Twitter recommended Ghiloni's. I love that this is a long-established family business, and it is always busy both times I have been in. The takeaway area is a small area separate to the dining in area, and as well as having a huge takeaway menu, it is a sweet shop heaven. Glass cabinets bulging with jars of sweeties, and trays of ice-cream seem to sparkle and shine when you walk in! So down to the business of the fish and chips. After our first visit, I think I would have rated it as a 3-4, the fish was fresh although the batter a little heavy and the chips were moreish! However, our last trip to Ghiloni's for fish & chips was incredibly disappointing. Both the fish and the chips were very greasy and heavy, and left a funny aftertaste in my mouth. When I scraped away the batter I found the fish mushy, and lacking in quantity. The fish:batter ratio was not good, with far more batter than fish! I think we should try it again, as this appears to be a local institution, and I want to love it! But, I must say I am a little reluctant to go back and pay for what we experienced on our last visit!

This place is a personal favourite. I spend way too much time in here…read more From a catch up lunch every week with a good friend. Or a quick breakfast after a heavy night out. Couple of rolls to go when heading out for an adventure. Ice cream on a hot day. It's local, been here for ages and seems more of a habit that somewhere I plan to visit. You have the sit in area. Fills most of every ones requirements. Burgers, Fish n Chips, Rolls, Pasta and breakfasts. I usually ended up with their special chicken burger. Chicken burger, bit of bacon, relish, salad and a side of chips. Price was about £6, ended up getting it too many times I was sick of it. There is also a take away area next door. Can get all your usual chip shop style options. Ice cream of all variety's and forms shapes etc...For old school sweetie lovers they have jars stacked up right in front of you. Brings back some memories. You could end up spending a fortune. Staff are friendly after a couple of visits you end up feeling like a regular. Price wise it can be a little pricey but nothing too ridiculous. Food is good. Only downside is that if it is a holiday or the weather is glorious then it can be really busy. Both in restaurant and the take away area. This can then lead to order mistakes and waiting a while. Sort of usual but just a warning. I love the place. Spend way too much time here, but then again I think everyone from the area finds themselves here. If you are visiting Kirkintilloch, you have to pop in here. The place is almost a landmark.

Given my mother-in-law's high blood pressure and the sheer number of breakables in their non-childproof home we tend not to abandon them for long so this was a quick pit stop for a coffee, cake and a conversation uninterrupted by small people. It's a Costa so no surprises on the interior, they're all the same! But it was clean and tidy, they don't always manage that. It wasn't busy so we didn't have long to wait before some amazingly lackluster customer service. I do so love it when I get served without the member of staff even raising their head, let alone attempting anything resembling a greeting or eye contact. We weren't there to make new friends, so we moved on to the end of the bench to collect my cappuccino and g's chai latte. It was at this point I realised I had been so bowled over by the guys lack of social, let alone customer service, skills that I had forgotten to ask for skimmed milk. Since he hadn't started to heat any milk I assumed that my polite request for skimmed wouldn't be a major inconvenience. His over dramatic sigh suggested otherwise. At this point g suggested I go and get a seat - he knows me too well and hates when I do the whole bat shit mental, crazy bitch thing when he's near! Our drinks were good, despite the Chai Latte falling a little short of full. The cakes, a caramel shortcake and an apple crumble slice were also good. Unfortunately, the rudeness of the barrista soured the experience for me.
