I have been training at G.H. Personal Training for about 2 years. They have several locations. I train with Peter Hahaj at the studio on Western Ave. Before G.H., I had been a member at several "chain" gyms (Bally, etc) over the years, where I tried out training with personal trainers. Those experiences were always disappointing, as the trainers never seemed to be truly qualified nor really cared about the clients' progress. At G.H., the experience has been the exact opposite. The trainers are experts in their fields, with educational backgrounds not only in the "physical" aspect of working out, but also nutrition and overall health. Equally important, they truly care about the progress of their clients, getting to know their goals, and, take a genuine effort in getting to know their clients personally (which is important - how can a trainer possibly help you with advancing your overall health if they don't care what you do the other 23h in the day when you're not at the gym?). So, working out at G.H. is not just about one narrow aspect of physical fitness (say, gaining muscle mass), but about your overall health and lifestyle. Different clients will have different goals. My goal was to add overall muscle mass (I was too skinny) as well as to start early against the aging process (such as preventing bone loss) that will invariably set in. I am very happy as my goals have been exceeded, and I continue to be a client because I know that this is the best investment in my long-term health (especially as I get older) I could ever make. On a more personal note, I truly enjoy working out with Peter. I love playing team sports, but in the past have found that the repetitive nature of lifting weights can sometimes get boring, which leads to less motivation, which leads to poor results. Most people probably will know what I am talking about. Working out with Peter, however, is great, because he will always find a way to motivate his clients throughout the whole session. After a successful workout, I always leave the gym feeling better, both physicallly and mentally. Lastly, he thinks through the work-out plan ahead of time, so that we switch up different types of workouts (heavy lifting, high reps, holding, cardio, etc) which leads to better overall progress. Why I enjoy being a part of the GH Fitness School for Healthy Living! For years I have been running marathons and ultra marathons. Cardio and leg strength just seemed to come naturally to me. My upper body however was pear-shaped at best. Small chest, no definition in my arms and a decent sized belly (it's difficult to self-criticize but it's true). I train with Peter at GH Personal Training and this place is THE BEST hands down! I used GH (with Peter as well) two years ago before my wedding and got incredible results in not that much time. I thought I could maintain the results on my own so I didn't sign back up when my package ran out. I was a member at Lakeshore Athletic Club and thought I would just use a trainer there if needed. Bad decision. The trainer at LAC was not good at all. All she would do was sit on a machine near by where i was working out and talk about how wasted she got the night before or what new guy she was sleeping with...gross. Next I tried a trainer at XSport, thinking that maybe I had a bad run at LAC. Bum deal. He was more interested in his next appointment who was not married. Sleazy and lame. So I came back to GH and I am so happy I did. Peter is absolutely incredible! He takes the time to understand the results I am looking for and works with me to get to my goals. I never feel bad if I've had a bad week but i feel great when we make progress. I have some issues with getting myself motivated, but whenever I work out with Pete, I am not bored, the time goes by so fast and I see great results which keeps me wanting more. The other trainers at GH are professional and courteous and never cop an attitude like you see at the chain gyms (XSport or Bally's anyone?) The facility (I go to the one on Western) and equipment is clean and in top condition. Getting appointments that work with your schedule is not a problem. My experience with GH has left such a big impact on the way I think about exercise, that despite the countless good reviews already left here, I needed to add one of my own! I was a competitive swimmer all throughout HS, and bc of that, was never properly instructed on the right ways to use exercise equipment/machines. I was always led to believe, doing as many "reps" as possible as quickly as possible would achieve my desired results. My first day at GH I quickly learned, everything I thought I knew was wrong! GH is more than personal training and exercise; it's a change in your lifestyle. They teach you how to be smarter about the decisions you make, from the food you eat to the ways you workout. And I have NEVER in my life experienced a workout that gave me MORE energy when I was finished, than when I arrived. It's unbelievable to think you can go into the gym at the end of the day, a little sluggish and tired from the days events, and work your body to its peak performance and have more energy than when you started. The trainers know EXACTLY how hard to push you, as they cater your entire experience around the best ways you intake information, and the whole experience feels so custom-tailored, that it's almost like hanging out with a friend, therapist and coach all while staying healthy. Even though they've already gotten a BUNCH of great reviews, I need to chime in! I started training with GH Fitness back in 2007 a few months before my wedding. I thought that I would be able to work out and get in better shape myself- but after a few months of making excuses and never going to the gym- I decided to modify our "wedding budget" and add a line for some personal training for myself. It was the best decision! I met Peter for a complimentary session and signed up on the spot. I started training only 3 months before my wedding and got great results! He gave me easy ideas for changing my diet too. I continued training with Peter throughout my pregnancy- he was able to modify exercises as needed and get me moving. I trained with him until I was almost 34 weeks pregnant and only stopped then because my doctor wanted me to relax because of pre-term contractions. I credit my relatively "easy" pregnancy on continuing to stay active and having someone guide me through exercising while pregnant. After my son was born and I got the all-clear from the doctor, I started training with Peter again- only 2 times a week- but it worked (again) and I dropped all of the pregnancy weight (and then some- I'm back to my wedding weight). I'm still training almost 11 months after my son was born and don't regret one cent that I've spent on getting myself in great shape! I recommend GH and Peter to all of my friends! read more

I've been going to KELLY LINDSAY for a few weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I have been going to the gym for as long as I can remember doing the same workouts with little variety and needed something different and I got it. I belong to DBG and seeing the trainers there and the other gyms I have belonged to in the past I never wanted to waist my money on a personal trainer cuz honestly they really never seem to know what they are doing or being completely attentive to their client but more attention on themselves. But thats where KELLY is different. I stand at my job all day and also play hockey for fun and always have some kind of wear and tear injuries on my body and Kelly is educating and strengthening my body and mind and making them work together to maximize the workout without over straining myself cuz I'm trying to do the workouts I did in college. I am extremely happy with the direction I am going and would recommend everyone to just give it a shot and see what you have been missing. At the age of 19 I was diagnosed with a stomach condition and it really began to affect my health once I turned 25. My doctors suggested that I begin a workout regiment to keep me energized and my stress levels down although I had never worked out a day in my life. GH Fitlab helped me to get results that I was not able to achieve anywhere else. I have gone to personal trainers in the past. Peter at GH Fitlab has been the best trainer I have ever worked with. I had torn the quadriceps on my right leg a couple years back. It had been a struggle getting back to where I was at physically. My physical therapist recommended GH Fitlab. After meeting with Peter, I started my sessions. In the past I would just try to grab the heaviest weights I could handle and tried to get through the target number of reps as quickly as possible. Their approach has been to get your muscles to work efficiently. I felt challenged, but not overwhelmed. The focus is on form and challenging the muscles. Due to my travel schedule I really can only make Saturday morning sessions. I've trained at GH for over three years with Krys Hahaj. Bottom line: He's great, they're great and, if you do your part to collaborate with them, you'll get great results. One thing that's impressed me about Krys and GH is how they responded when I ran into the 'wall' I'd experienced with other trainers (getting into great shape, but not looking like it from a weight standpoint). There were no mind games. There was no effort to make me feel guilty because I didn't "want" the results hard enough, etc., etc. That approach doesn't work with me and, in my previous experiences, meant the trainer and program were out of ideas. I have been training at the GH Mt. Prospect location since 2003, and it is hands down the best facility I have every worked out at. The atmosphere is always positive and motivating, which is important to me, especially after an 11 hour work day. The trainers are top notch, always focusing 100% on the client whenever they are training. This may seem like something that is a "given" at a training facility, but you would be surprised how trainers at other facilities spend very little time actually training their clients during a session. GH should get 6 stars if only possible. I've been a client for about a year now and I am seriously looking forward to each and every session with my trainer Kim. She provides me with undivided personal attention and knowladge, keeps my food journal and makes sure that I do every single exercise properly and get the best of it. I have had a couple other trainers before Kim (in a different gym) but the experience is uncomparable. GH is a very special place. The moment you walk in you fee at home, you know your trainer is not there to ear few $ but to make you healthier and feel better. I recommend Kim to all my friends.
