Every since they switched from Redcreek to GFL they have significantly declined. We have had multiple weeks missed and delayed with no communication or ownership for lack of responsibility. This company is extremely irresponsible. They failed to collect our garbage on the scheduled date, yet still charged us as usual. When the garbage accumulated until the next pickup, they claimed that our garbage was overweight and added extra charges to our bill. When we contacted customer service multiple times, they repeatedly said it was the customer's fault and kept giving different excuses instead of taking responsibility. Do they really think this is fair treatment for customers? I am very disappointed with their service and would not recommend GFL to anyone. read more

Most unprofessional company I've ever dealt with. They hold a near‑monopoly in the Langford area, which makes it very difficult to find alternative services. They missed my garbage pickup several times, and when I called to address it -- politely, at first -- they refused to accommodate, even when I offered to pay extra for an additional pickup. When I became understandably frustrated, they cancelled my service altogether. I even sent an apology email in hopes of resolving the issue, but they never responded. I had a doorknocker come around to sign me up. It was a bit cheaper and I thought I'll give it a try. Im currently with a company so I said lets start in June. They got the sign up wrong giving me 2 trash containers instead of a trash and recycling, I was suppose to have 2 free months but they started charging immediately even before my service had started. Then when I reached out to their phone service I was given oh yeah that will be taken care of or finally I can't cancel your service you'll have to email them. Really an interesting company, they never replaced my damaged trash can, when i canceled the last pick was to be December 26, 2025. they stopped picking it up on the December 11th 2025. Good thing I'm dumping them!! 3 stars sense they do pick it up most of the time, started out at 93.00 now its 123.00 and when i asked them about the increase and i wanted to cancel they asked if they could lower the cost for me to stay on? Very inconsistent pickup. They may show up they may not. No communication as to why they missed and when they will pickup. Your trash sits at the road and you wait. Noticed on-line that service has been cancelled, but still no call back from the local area manager. I have been a customer for of waste management/GFL Environmental door a total of 18 years. Always paid my bill on time. They did back door pickup since I am disabled. They have missed pick ups before. One billing cycle my bill was only $29.00 because of credits for missed pick ups. They got better until until about a month ago. I have 4 weeks of trash. I just had someone take the majority of it off. There is a work order for Monday. But I know they will not come. I finally after 7 calls I told them to come and get their can. Liars. I can understand and forgive mistakes. I cannot forgive institutionalized, serial lying. GFL missed our street's scheduled pick-up on Monday. Tuesday morning, after a long hold, I was promised pick-up today. Nope. Ditto, Wednesday. Ditto, Thursday. I visited their Southfield office and met the Customer Service Mgr. What I learned: Shortly after I and my neighbors report missed pick-ups, the Route Mgr closes the trouble ticket as "Picked-Up." That is a lie. Friday, after 5PM, the Customer Service Mgr texted that she was told that my trash had just been picked up. Nope. GFL's route mgr lied to her too. 25-30 minutes later ... a truck arrived to get the trash for all ten of us that had been missed. read more

where do I start! from October of 2025 to Feb 6 we have had 7 missed dates for pickup. I kid you not, we were given excuses if the driver quit mid shift, truck ran out of gas, supervisors are past frustrate at employees etc. We were not picked up for 2 weeks because of the snow ! The office staff sucks and rude!!!!! I paid through March but can't get any refund even though it's their fault! I had to hire a new service. now they told me my cab had to sit at the road for 2 more weeks until it's picked up or I'm charged. My neighborhood HOA will not allow this. To see that this company has just a 1.2 star review is a reflection on the company's leadership. I have been a customer for years now due to this company being the only company that services my area. I spoke with a guy named BJ at first as to why they removed my cans after payment and then when i called in to get my cans back, BJ was so nonchalant and not concerned at all about my concerns. I asked to speak to a manager and explained that i would call the coroporate office in which his response was a "matter of fact i can give you the number, just very nasty with it. i hung up on him. Then i calmed down and called back and spoke with Edwin B. Edwin B had amazing customer service, was very polite, took time to look into my complaint and was able to get me squared away. EDWIN B. I appreciate your kind spirit and support. GFL please hire more citizens like Edwin B in order to get your customer review ratings up and do better as a business. Your rating should not be this low. We used a small company for our residential trash when we first moved in that sold to GFL after a couple of years. Our price has gone up over double what we initially paid for identical services in a few years. We discussed with a few people in the neighborhood who use different companies that all charge significantly less. Since our policy switched over we didn't read the website thoroughly which makes it impossible to cancel services unless you email or directly contact someone. They had no issues letting our business go and do not offer refunds. We were told that they would stop services but keep our payment for the next quarter because the billing cycle had started one week prior to the request. read more

I bought a home in the Kansas City area that was serviced by GFL in mid August. Both the seller and I have called them to pick up their containers as I use a different company. The rep was rude and short tempered, and told me they couldn't cancel service until the end of the month and then had 8 weeks to pick up their containers. They are blocking my driveway and interfering with my use of the property. GFL doesn't care, and given their attitude and approach I would never use them. They are worse than Waste Management, which is saying something. read more

After 3 weeks of us not putting out our cans due to vacation, yesterday we put them out at 8:45am. They usually come around 10ish (or at least the prior 4 companies did-what is with the turnover?!). We had high winds, I live in the country and didn't want to put them out overnight because trash would be all over the field by morning. I've been on hold for an hour. I have called 3x trying to get them to fix my garage and recycling lids. I was told on two occasions that they would be out to fix it. The 3rd time I called an employee sent an email to her supervisor explaining the issue and I still haven't received any email, phone call, or letter telling me anything. I live in a condo and could be fined for my cans not being like everyone else's. I just want my lids replaced. The GFL workers damaged my cans by throwing them down on the ground. If I could give GFL Environmental zero stars, I would. Joey, the so-called supervisor, is the epitome of unprofessionalism. His crew hit my fence and, instead of taking responsibility like any reputable company would, they tried to sweep it under the rug. When I called it out, Joey came out personally--not with a professional fencing company, mind you--and performed a laughable excuse for a repair. It was sloppy, unacceptable, and frankly insulting. When I pointed out just how bad his "fix" was, he assured me he'd return to make it right. Unsurprisingly, he never showed up. Instead, Joey decided to involve my HOA--an organization that doesn't live in my neighborhood, didn't pay for my fence, didn't install it, and has absolutely no role in its maintenance. Allegedly, they told him the shoddy repair was "fine," and Joey used this irrelevant opinion as an excuse to walk away from the mess his crew caused. This level of negligence and deflection is absolutely disgusting. Joey's lack of professionalism and accountability reflects terribly on GFL Environmental. If this is the kind of leadership they employ, it's no wonder their standards are nonexistent. Avoid this company at all costs unless you enjoy dealing with careless, unethical behavior and supervisors who think dishonesty is an acceptable way to do business. read more
