No. Just...No. Do NOT even consider them. I gave them a second chance because they came to the door offering a FANTASTIC rate over Choice. Choice also only picks up recycling every other week, and GFL picks up weekly. So despite receiving poor service from GFL in the past, I switched back. Issue #1 - They said they would begin at the start of the new quarter - July 1st. The bins arrived the last week in June, and the trash bin was placed at the end of the drive at night on July 6th for collection on the 7th. They did not pick up. A call to GFL on the 8th provided me with the answer: My service was not set to start until the week of July 13th. I'll let you think about that and decide if it makes sense to you. It did not then and still does not to me. Issue #2 - Bins were taken to the street the night of the 13th for collection the next day. That evening, I went to collect the bin, and it was full. I called GFL on the 15th and was told there are no route notes and that they would have the truck pick up "sometime later" that week. I put the recycling out on the 16th and the regular bin on the opposite side of the drive. Both were picked up. Issue #3 - Trash bin was put out on the night of the 20th and not picked up by 4:30 pm on the 21st. There had been storms that day, so I called GFL. I was told the truck did have delays that day, but they do pick up until 7pm. I left the bin out all evening. It was not picked up. I called GFL on the 22nd, and it was picked up for recycling on the 24th. Issue #4 - I put the trash bin out the night of the 27th--no pickup on the 28th. I called today to cancel the service after returning to Choice. I was told that my service was changed last week from the Tuesday trash/Thursday recycling pickup schedule to BOTH on Thursday now. I had not been notified. GFL has one of the worst communication systems of any business I have ever come across. I did not bother asking for a refund. I did not want to waste another moment on that company. And I don't want you to, either. read more

Goochland Area compliant here: After the recent snowstorm, the company said our service would be postponed (totally understandable). We emailed to find out when the pick-up would happen, and they gave us a day and date. After that day and date came and went, we contacted them again and got another day and date. After that day and date came and went, we contacted them again and got ANOTHER day and date. After that came and went, and three weeks after the last previous pick-up, a whole TWO WEEKS AFTER school busses started rolling down our road again, we emailed them again and asked to cancel our service. 8 days after sending that email, they replied saying we couldn't cancel our service and had to call them. We had to call and cancel over the phone. Side note: if the roads are ok enough for school busses to be running, shouldn't the roads be ok for trash trucks to be on the roads and doing their job? So it has been one month today since our last trash pick-up, and in that time, we have been able to get a new trash pick-up company, and they have not only dropped off our new cans, they have already picked our trash up once. All of this happened since the last time I saw a GFL truck come down our road. Long story short: they suck at the very thing they charge customers an astronomical rate for, but their rates just keep going up (imagine that!). We went with Rush Disposal out of Montpelier. They are way cheaper and seem to be way more reliable, so save yourself the time, and skip this company if you want to save your money and your sanity. read more

They've missed our collection twice in the last three months and for no apparent reason. They didn't pick it up this week which is Thanksgiving week and they said they can't do missed pick ups this week. When these guys bought County Waste a few years ago, the quality of service plummeted immediately. It got so bad with them not making pick-ups that the county told citizens that if they brought a GLF invoice with them, the county would waive the landfill fees so people could get rid of their trash. If GLF missed a pickup for a week, they still charged for the full month. The price went up steadily from the original $25/month to $40 by the time we canceled and went to a better service that only charges $25/month. When we canceled, we had already paid for the coming month, and they said we would get a refund, but they never refunded our money. We have been customers for almost 10 years. Right now, we have 9 bags of Garbage waiting because GFL hasn't picked up in ( 3 ) weeks due to snow/ice in Mechanicsville 3 weeks ago. Every other Trash Company has been picking up for the past TWO WEEKS. Furthermore; myself and all my neighbors have been driving to work for two weeks and you are telling me a 30 ton Dump Truck can't drive in our neighborhood where numerous little 2 door sedans can ????? I've called them multiple times and held for over 30 minutes just to be told 'Sorry, your house is tagged as can't pick up.' They haven't been out for almost a month ! We are on a 2 week pickup schedule. They have taken over a week to return emails. I understand the snow we had, but our drivewmay is almost cleared save a small area near my house. We haven't had any issues getting in or out with 2 wheel drive cars for over a week. They pulled in our driveway 2 days ago, after nearly 60 degree days and only went in the length of the truck and stated they couldn't get that big truck in ! What do they want, sand and palm trees ? Have 3 accounts with GFL. One petsonal account and 2 business accounts. When canceling one of the business accounts I was told to get into my account which I did and send an email. A month later the account was still activate. I called and was told that request needed to be called in. Phone are waiting periods over 15 minutes. Incorrect information and poor customer service. My existing commercial account base is $250.00 a month. However, the actual bill with the additional charged has been an additional $135.00 per month. This company is responsible for the dumpster and trash pick up at Pinecone Harbor condominiums Hampton, Virginia. We have had a contract with them for over four years. We are a private property and have two dumpsters with this company. They are always late picking up the trash and the dumpsters are in horrible shape. One of the dumpsters has not had a top on it in over two years. Our management company has continue to ask them to replace the Garbage dumpster but they won't. The trash dumpster now has rodents inside of the garbage cans. I am planning to call the city and file a complaint if you are thinking about hiring this company do not do so. They have a terrible rating everywhere. Missed services often, and was told many times that it would be tomorrow over and over. Call, text, and email sales person and local office and it could take over a week to get a reply. Taking money while denying us service is nothing less than fraud. We had one snow day last week (Monday) and GFL Environmental refused to pick up garbage in the Hidden Lakes community later in the week. Instead, they told us they would pick up our garbage the following Monday, allowing overflow since we all had two weeks of garbage by then. They didn't keep that promise either -- nobody came this Monday either. I called and after 15 minutes on hold, the lady assured me they would pick up our garbage by 7pm yesterday. I've been through this before with them, and sure enough, nobody came last night or all morning. This company simply does not care about reliable service. Trash service is good enough unless there's a holiday or weather and then we have to wait another week Which can be tough when the can is already full. The biggest issue is the incompetence of the office/billing staff. I was paying via electronic transfer, but they kept screwing that up so I switched to old fashioned checks. Surprise. Terrible rude drivers!! I was in the Sheetz parking lot and encountered one of their drivers. Not being able to read his mind or know which direction he was going, I backed up and waited. He backed up, so I backed up even further but was not willing to back all the way out of the parking lot. He put his truck in reverse and slammed on the gas and narrowly missed my car by about 2 inches. He got out and started slamming the gate and acting aggressive. My husband is a truck driver and when he needs people to move he gets out of his truck and politely and professionally talks to them. Called today to cancel the second can and they wanted to charge $25 to pick it up. Would even charge us if we dropped it off to them! Terrible service. Do not use! Their website and customer portal is the most outdated website I've tried to navigate in at least a decade. Sometimes they just skip my house and don't offer any resolution other than telling me to wait until next week. Requested a refund for not collecting as scheduled... $0.93 refund tentatively offered out of a monthly bill of $99.75! But I need to wait and see if a supervisor is willing to approve those 93 pennies which the rep on the phone made clear was solely within the supervisor's discretion to approve, or not appprove. I tried going through their email but the first reply took 48 hours and it was end of day Friday, so the next email wasn't until Monday. I assume my one email a day will show up later today. Today, I saw their truck come down my street and grab my neighbor's trash and ignore mine. I immediately called and was told by the same unfriendly woman that there was nothing they could do until tomorrow because it wasn't a "miss" yet.
