I have some land in Fish Lake Valley and heard there was a hardware store which honestly made me laugh because if you know Fish Lake Valley / Dyer, you know that people are outnumbered by cows and probably by wild horses too. It's a remote, remote place with very little development.
Basically on Highway 264 you'll see a sign for GFC Sales and it's across the street (east side) from the fire department (which is on the west side).
I walked in and was blown away. It has a massive selection with a deep inventory. Pipe fittings, hand tools, electrical supplies, paint, automotive, etc. Minus the building materials themselves you could probably build a house with the inventory in this store and do some basic automotive repairs.
One thing to note is that they're cash only with an ATM on site. The prices will be higher than you'd pay in Bishop or Ridgecrest (or Carson, or anywhere) but if you're in Dyer and need a shovel: you *really* need that shovel. And the prices aren't insanely higher.
They also have beer for sale. read more
