I planned a trip for freelance. The owner of the car didn't check the garage schedule so the car was not accessible even though there was a flyer in the parking garage listing the times when the garage was undergoing maintenance. I called Getaround about it and was put on hold for a very long time while having to take calls from a pretty angry client. Getaround then said they could rent me a car all the way across town as a solution. This took another 40 minutes as I had to load all of my gear and they never reimburse ubers on a timely schedule. I asked them for a full refund of the trip because I literally lost $500 in money due to their negligence. They said the best they could do is $20. My loyalty to them is only worth $20 so I don't feel bad leaving them. The reason I know about them being very late on payment for ubers is that they previously gave me a car that has clear issues that the owner should have seen. They didn't check it out. After getting to my location I needed the car towed. Rather than taking over the process, I ended up being the one who talked to the tow truck driver and had to answer all his questions including info about a parking pass. This ate into my work day as Getaround and the owner of the car provided no help and I was left on my own to fix negligent keeping of a car. I ubered home from the job site and it took a good while for Getaround to reimburse. I found this extremely troublesome. They will also do random things like cancel a reservation for a car with a reserved spot and rebook you a car with street parking for a trip that ends on a Sunday evening. It takes an hour to find street parking on a Sunday evening here. So I had to leave an event an hour early to get a spot. I still had to call them while driving to explain the issue on why I couldn't find a spot to park. Another classic thing their customer service does is literally call you until you pick up at 11:15pm. They did this for another rebook. Other car share companies have much better policies and service. I use Turo or just rent from Avis instead of use these guys now. Every time I rent a car there just seems to be drama or the car is gross and not taken care of. It is the time of covid and these guys are renting cars with sticky interiors and cigarette smells. Worst rental service I rented a fiat 500 and the tire slit as soon as I got on the highway plus there's a snow storm in ny and this car is small it slides on ice so it's been hard to return but this service doesn't give you no deals or set price there charge is$190 a day for a car I'm not moving is crazy not only have I had it for a week which u would think they'll work with you but nothing this really sucks!! read more

Car tire became flat within a few blocks. Proceeded to get inundated with calls from the tow truck, had to explain that I wasn't in the car. Getaround took their sweet time with the refund but I wish that was the end of it. 4 months later, I got a $300 bill for damages~ Getaround doesn't have a support number. At all. This was my 1st time using getaround. I had come upon Getaround through google and honestly if you're in need to rent a car for a couple hours or a day or two you have the ability to choose it on your app. Getaround was super fast and convenient on my hand , and if you're lost finding your car rental customer service supports does an amazing job in doing so! Update to stolen car story. Took 3 full days to get my car back after the stolen credit card was finally declined. They literally dropped it off and never notified me. I walked outside and my car was there. Crashed and trashed. Almost a month later and Brandon still has not fully compensated me for the the spare key I had to get made when originally joining the platform. Then I was given $9.27 "loss of use" a day compensation for for 8 days on a 2019 BMW. Thanks so much. That covered filling the empty tank and getting the car detailed. Horrendous customer service. Booked a reservation 8 days prior to our trip. At 6am on thanksgiving morning I arrived at the garage to pick up the car, which turned out to not be there. Called getaround customer service and was then told the car was in maintenance and that the reservation would have to be cancelled s Over the course of our 20 min call I was then informed there were no other reservations in nyc and that the closest rentals available were in philly or dc. Put us and our trip in a very difficult spot. Took the reimbursement and luckily got a last minute booking with a different provider but all the way in Newark. Getaround said they would receive my receipt for reimbursement but with the amount of inconvenience this has caused our trip and group, reimbursement for our ubers rod trip is the least they can do. I should have been notified that the car wasn't available prior to my trip. read more

Getaround is my favorite way to Rideshare. I get to choose which car I want always at a very reasonable price and I can rent by the hour, week or month. The customer service is top notch and they will help you with anything you need from finding the car, to getting to a gas station and Making sure the car is returned properly. This car sharing customer service is far from customer service. They are horrible in responding to support messages. After using the app with no issues for 4 days my account was deactivated with no explanation. My account was deactivated after I disputed a charge that was not valid. After several delayed messages from their "agents" they agreed to refund me half of the charge. Even though I knew I was not at fault I no longer felt like constantly contacting them was working so I took my loss and just allowed them to collect the half charge. 2 days later (which I did not use the app for an entire week after the charge) my account was deactivated with no explanation. I've been reaching out to customer support but of course no response. Using car rental companies in NYC like Enterprise or Budget or Alamo is a nightmare.  What GET AROUND taught us is that it can actually get worse.  For 10 years we have been renting cars in NYC, trying new modes of transportation searching for easier ways to get around town or go on trips.  So far using traditional rental car companies has been the best option however it's still awful for a number of reasons, we hoped this service GET AROUND could actually make things more convenient and more affordable so we gave it a shot.  We were wrong and learned our lesson, it is actually easier and more affordable to use a car rental company and here's why:  1) the setup of the application and approval process took literally hours, I'm not joking.  I could have gone back and forth to a car rental company and rented a car 7 times before I had completed installing the app and getting all the approvals.  And to boot, the whole process took over my google account and rearranged things to a manner I still haven't been able to figure out how to undo so that's a mess.  2) We got to the car pickup location on time and there was no attendant to be found or called, also the owner of the car could not be reached.  It took over an hour just to find our car, and when you've rented it for 8 hours you've now wasted 1/8 of your rental time where as I would not have going to a car rental company.  3)  While trying to unlock the car through the application it wasn't working, it took several tries and never actually completely worked.  Images were never uploaded of the interior or gas levels and when I returned the car they claimed the fuel level was low (it was not) but they claimed it was even though they have no photos to prove the levels of where the gas was before using the car.  I have been trying to contact GET AROUND about this and they still have not gotten back to me.  4)  The car was filthy and stunk like cigarettes.  In the cup holders and all around the car there was tobacco, ashes and remnants of marijuana.  I kid you not, I have the photos to prove it.  I also found a wine glass in the back seat with wine in it.  Who leave alcohol and drugs in the car for someone to rent?  OMG.  5) The car was not in good shape so GET AROUND does not inspect their cars (nor make sure their clean), the car needs an alignment and the breaks squeaked and didn't work well.  At a car rental company at least you know you get a CLEAN AND SAFE car. 6) GET AROUND limits mileage - and then charges for additional miles.  Car rental companies regularly give out unlimited mileage!  7) And here's the kicker.... GET AROUND actually COST MORE than a rental care company.  I can rent a car for a full 24 hours sometimes for under $90 in NYC.  $90 won't get you 5 hours in a GET AROUND vehicle.  So after all these points.. what is the point of GET AROUND?  It's simply a gimmick and doesn't actually work better, don't waste your money. GET AROUND has still not responded to me or taken care of the incorrect gas charges.  As a lifetime New Yorker who truly understands the importance of how we get around - this is not a good option.  What GET AROUND has given me though is a new perspective on the car rental companies in NYC.  They are not great, but they are the best option so at least I feel better visiting Enterprise, Alamo or Budget.  There's plenty of locations in NYC to pick up cars from and easily drop them off without the hassles of GET AROUND. read more

Very disappointed with this company and gave them multiple chances (have emailed about 5 times and am still not receiving a response past the initial response.) Got a car for 30 hours and had a seemingly normal experience. We were running a bit late due to traffic, so we extended the car by 30 minutes. At the time the car was due (4:30pm), we were filling up the tank at the gas station next to the parking spot of the car and the car engine was locked on us. We could not start the engine, we were blocking many cars, and people started to honk at us. It was pouring rain and we had to get out and push the car because we could not get in touch with anyone at the company. When they finally answered us, they unlocked the engine for 5 minutes and said we were not insured at that time and had to be very careful (after we had paid $60+ extra for car insurance.) We spent an extra hour dealing with this, and after we were done, requested to speak with a supervisor/manager about our issue but no one ever contacted us. We still are being charged for a full tank of gas and not filling it up, even though we did fill the tank to the top, and despite emailing many times about this, no one will respond. They sent us a $15 coupon to use on a future car rental, which is useless considering we will never rent from here again. By far the worst experience I've ever had with a rental company. If I could leave zero stars, I would. Avoid this at all costs if you value your safety and a bare minimum of customer service. I rented this car to drive to my best friend's wedding, which I was a bridesmaid in. I drove in it for less than 2 hours total (and there was heavy traffic so we were going very slowly for most of the ride) when the back right tire randomly blew out. My friend and I had to make an emergency stop and pulled over on the side of a highway. When I inspected the car, I discovered the tire was extremely flat--more than it should have been if the tire had hit something in the road which it definitely didn't or we would've felt it. When I tried to contact the owner about the fact they rented me a car with a faulty tire, the number listed reached an automated operator which said there was no one available to speak to, which I found extremely suspicious. I then tried to contact Getaround customer service, but both agents I spoke to said my only option was to have the car towed back to its original location, only after which they would TRY to find a replacement vehicle for me (but they kept stressing they "could not guarantee" they could find me another car). They informed me I would also have to pay out of pocket for the tow service, which I frankly found ridiculous. At this point, we had been stranded on the highway for more than an hour and a half, and I was crying, feeling abandoned, and late to my friend's wedding. If this had happened late at night, this would have put my friend and I, two young women, in an EXTREMELY dangerous situation. The total charge after all this happened is $555, a sizeable chunk of which is the tow fee (I had originally booked the car for $278, including tax and fees). I've been informed that I need to file a claim for both the rental car cost and the tow service cost. Getaround customer service has not been empathetic or helpful in the slightest. When I called them, it felt like they were reading from a script and did not care at all about the customer's safety or satisfaction. read more

I reserved a car a month ago for a day trip, when I went to pick up the car, it wasn't there. I wasn't able to get a hold of the owner and after 20 min on the phone with Robert from support, they couldn't either. They told me they could rebook another car 1.1 miles away in JC and reimburse my Uber cost to get there. When I refreshed my app, the new car was in Philadelphia! I called back and spent 40 min on hold with another representative to be told that I could rent a Tesla that came with a $2500 deductible in case of incident. The second representative tried to be helpful, but at this point it was too late. There is no sense of responsibility from either the company or the car owners to those paying to rent the vehicles. This is a great idea, but a broken and ineffective system. At this rate, this company won't last long. read more

I posted this review on their other page. I used Getaround for 5 years. I recommend NEVER using them again. Here is what happened to me this weekend. FYI I emailed them regarding the incident and the company has yet to contact me. ------ Over the last 30 hours I've never had so much trouble with a rental car company as I've had with Getaround. I've used and recommended the service for the past 5 years and I am now thoroughly disappointed. Here is what happened: July 31st 1) My partner and I started the trip at 7pm EST. The car's battery was dead to start with and I had to wait 1 hour for a tow truck. During this time, I tried to contact the owner via phone call and text. The owner doesn't have a real phone and is not able to be contacted. They never returned my calls or texts and they still haven't. Why would Getaround provide cars from someone who can't be contacted? This is not only unprofessional and disorganized, but also having Getaround use a car from a person that cannot be verified is potentially dangerous. 2) We started driving and stopped to get food about one hour later. By this time it was 9pm. Again, the car battery was dead when we tried to start the car after dinner. We called Getaround but was put on hold to wait for a tow truck that never came. In fact, we were out on hold indefinitely. Please note it was late at night but fortunately someone had jumper cables to get the car started. If I was alone (or another customer was) and / or in a bad area this could have been a bad situation. These types of things can actually put people in danger. Your service put me (or if someone else took the car) in danger multiple times. I will detail this more but this trip could have been a major liability to us and Getaround. August 1st 1) I tried to start the car and it did not work. I called at around 8:30am and ended up talking to 4 different people over the course of 4+ hours. After each call no tow truck was ever sent, which is why I had to keep calling back. A tow truck didn't come until 4 hours later only after I spoke with a supervisor. In a situation where a car is not operable, 4 hours is an egregious amount of time - again, should I have been stranded on the road, this could have led to a potentially dangerous situation with no ability to get help. Additionally, this is time I could have been spending with my partner at the hotel we paid for and not on the phone for the car. 2) Note I asked for a manager to call me back many times. To speak to a manager alone took me 3 hours. August 2 1) I woke up at 8am to turn on the car. It was dead. 2) The tow truck came 30-45 minutes later. The car could not be started. Another stranger tried to jump the car as well. No luck. 3) The entire morning I was on the phone with getaround and trying to find transportation back home to New York City. I spent 4 hours doing this and ruined the last day of our trip. 4) Getaround was very unsupportive in finding transportation home. All I got was a text message saying "COVID-19 Update: Our service provider won't be able to transport passengers. Please arrange personal transportation & ensure drop off location is open. Thanks!". What if I was in a rural area with no public transportation or taxis? This is VERY bad planning on your part. Also, even if we could go with the tow truck we wouldn't because of all the tow trucks you sent NO ONE WORE MASKS. This again is a danger to our health and a liability. 5) We then took a cab home with someone for 2 hours. We were NOT comfortable with this because of covid. In fact, that's why we rented a car, to not be around people. 6) Note the tow truck company was taking hours to pick up the car so I had to leave it to go home. Customer support said this was fine and they would have the tow truck company call Getaround and deal with the pickup. This wasn't true. The tow truck company called me to unlock the car because they didn't have your number. I was the middle man in all of this and had to coordinate. Summary I spent over half of the trip on the phone (16 Getaround interactions and countless more calls) with Getaround and tow trucks instead of spending the time with my partner on her birthday. read more

I had my car on the app..ended up getting into too many accidents bc you can't vet renters. The last renter damaged the car and upon return I had a loud sound and vibration. I had to take it back multiple times to try and fix but nothing. After like 3-4 times trying to repair, pandemic hit and mechanic stopped doing work. Tried to get Getaround to let me know how to proceed. After finally advising me on what to do I go to the mechanic, pay out of pocket and then get denied reimbursement. If your an owner...get your car off the app before something happens and you regret it...I sure did! read more

Only for them to cancel (last min)the day before going to pick up the car. I'm so upset right now I'm left without a car and money because they haven't sent me back the amount I paid for the car/days. Only sent me the deposit. Well sadly I am no different from any of the other bad reviews. I am also a victim of what seems to be a getaround scam. I am a host on getaround and my car was totaled on the getaround platform on the very first rental by a irresponsible unlicensed driver. This incident took place on February 10th 2019 and still, I am not able to get my claim solved by getaround and their claims department. Upon sign up to become a getaround host you are told that your cars are fully covered by their insurance when on a rental, also they would be monitored by the device installed on the car and that they have one of the best screening processes for getaround renters. However When you reach out to getaround after a incident you Are told that someone will contact you and it will never happen. They will go dark on you, no contact of any kind. Unfortunately in my situation people were hurt in the accident and they have now searched out for my personal insurance company to try and cover this claim that I was told getaround covers. Because of getaround's lack of professionalism and unwillingness to conduct proper business practices I am now being personally being sued by the parties injured in this incident, I will also be losing my personal auto insurance policy and I no longer have my vehicle that I am still making payments on. My vehicle still sits at the towing yard collecting thousands of dollars of storage fees that most likely I will have to pay because getaround refuses to step up and conduct proper business. I'm sure after this review someone from getaround will comment and say that they are sorry and a claims person will reach out to solve this issue, but Me and now my insurance company have been hearing this over and over again since February. I can go on and on about the incident and how getaround is not dealing with the situation but my best advice is to Please Stay Far Far Away From Getaround !!! Or you may end up like me. read more

They just emailed me today just 14 hours before the trip starts, that the trip has been cancelled. There's no car avaibale on getaround now at this late notice. I'm on call with the customer care since 15 mins now, and there's no response. They gave me a credit of $30 for this trip because of cancellation from last trip and they are refunding me only the discounted price now, offering me only $10 for the $60 trip, the hassle of arranging another car and if I don't find it, the amount I'd have to pay for Uber/Lyft!
