Called support they said they *could* transfer my payment to another vehicle, except I'd used a discount (Groupon) so, only what I actually paid would transfer and I'd have to start from scratch, standing on the corner, with a deadline. Between having a car with a dead engine be available as a rental and waiting for 40 mins to talk to customer service to the $2.50 service fees that you get charged for EVERY toll you pass through... Borderline scam company. I parked a car I had rented in a legal parking spot. The car got ticketed by NYC incorrectly. The host alerted GetAround who then immediately charged me for the $100+ ticket. I immediately contacted them using their paltry customer service system. They refused to refund me despite providing no evidence I was in the wrong. Along with the host, I was able to definitively prove that I had not parked illegally and that NYC was wrong to ticket the car. Never got my money back. In the end was forced to dispute the transactions through my credit card company, resulting in GetAround suspending my account instead of trying to resolve things amicably and professionally. My experience is that Getaround will find any way to charge you additional fees (fuel fee, parking fee, toll fee) before doing any DUE DILIGENCE in hopes that you don't dispute the charge as they cannot defend their additional fees. If I could give zero stars I would. The car was not on the street but on a parking lot ramp, making it very hard to find. The app does not provide license plates so I took pics of an altima on the street before realizing it was the wrong car. It was FILTHY, inside and out. Bird poop everywhere, cigarette ashes and odor. It was banged up. Front bumper held up by screws. The flat tire light was on. TERRIBLE Now that I am reading reviews I assume I can look forward to having to fight to get my $4,000 deposit back, AND they don't tell you how much the security deposit is upfront. We rented a car for 10 hours and returned the car in 8 hours. Since that time, we have been hassled by the company with 4 emails either asserting we did not return the car before or we returned the car late. You can't have both! They have now charged our credit card hundreds of dollars, which I conclude is fraudulent. I had a horrible experience with this service. All started out ok but then they add fees to everything. WATCH OUT each time you go through a toll you will have to pay 2.50 on top of the toll fee. They will charge you $50 if you part the car 1 block away from where it needs to be even if you explain that there was absolutely no parking anywhere. I have very very rarely gone out of my way to write a review on any kind of service. However, this experience was so awful I felt the need to. If you're thinking about doing this, just don't. First issue was that the car was not parked in the garage the host's instructions said it was parked in. The host did not let me know the car had been parked in the wrong garage. The map was highly inaccurate and showed the car as parked at a location where no parking existed; it was a freeway. The host was of very little help when I called and this resulted in me walking around three different garages, up and down rows in the heat for almost two hours trying to locate the car. he garage it was supposed to be parked in should have allowed me to exit with the car for free. But, since the car was in the wrong garage, there was a fee to get out of that garage. The host told me to pay the ticket, take a photo of it and sent it to Getaround. He promised I would be reimbursed by getaround since the car was not in the right garage when I picked it up. With all of these issues, I was over two hours late getting on the road and missed a friend's wedding ceremony. I let customer service know about these issues and they have refused to give me a reimbursement for the garage ticket or for part of the trip despite the horrendous experience. I booked an SUV with the company Getaround for May Memorial weekend for $350. When I went to pick up the car, it was not there so I called customer service. It took them 45 minutes to finally speak to me. When they did, they told me there was a note to call me because the car I had booked was stolen but no one had called me. They then rebooked me in a smaller, filthy car with no windshield wipers for $808.00. I asked that they at least price match my original amount. They said there was nothing they could do. One representative said he could take $10 off. When I asked him to escalate it, the final offer was $25 off. This was a terrible bait & switch. Every service representative was unsympathetic to the situation, reluctant to let me speak with anyone else and kept saying there was nothing they could do. This is a terrible company. I used to rent my car out for Getaround back when I lived in DC and that was a bad experience so I assumed that as a renter my opinion of Getaround could only go up -- I turned out to be very wrong. I had a trip booked for a Saturday morning at 9:45am and Getaround called me at 9:50am to tell me that the car would no longer be available. They then told me my only option was to rent a car that was 15 min away driving from the original rental. Getaround assured me that they'd pay for the uber/lyft ride to and from this new rental as long as I sent them receipts. I reluctantly agreed to this because getting a different day of rental was going to be much more expensive. A couple days later, I submitted the receipts to only then receive an email saying they couldn't reimburse me the whole amount (an amount I had already cleared with the representative on the phone) and would only be paying for one way. Overall, just a completely awful experience. No accountability, terrible customer service, and not even that cheap compared to their competitors. Just pay the slightly higher costs and use other car sharing apps because this one is absolute garbage UPDATE: The business owner on Yelp commented on this saying they would reach out to help. I rented from them twice in one week they were both disasters. The first car showed it was 2.89 miles from my location when I booked it, and it turned out to be 12 miles and a $40 Lyft ride away. When the got there the car was filthy and on the return, parking was a nightmare. The second time, the car was filthy outside and the battery died in me. It kept restarting while I was driving and when I parked the batt died. The lights are automatic lights so I had no reason to leave a light on and yet they were going to charge $75 for a jump. I have loved and used GetAround for almost two years now. I was loyal to them and have used them for trips at least 10 times. Over two months ago, I booked a car for a 5-day trip that I'm leaving for today. We live in NYC, where options for vehicles go fast. So if you don't book far in advance for things, you may end up with literally no options. The accommodations for our trip cost $2,000, which we've already paid. Today, 30 minutes before my booking, I received a call and email from GetAround saying that the car has become unavailable. There is NO way to call them. They've discontinued their phone line. They say "you can call us with any questions" but there is no phone line offered. The only number I can find just has a recorded message saying that "this phone line is no longer being monitored" and suggests going online to chat. I looked into other GetAround cars, and they are all many, many miles away, some in areas that are unsafe and that I cannot even get to with public transit. So, at best I'd be paying $150+ dollars to Uber an hour to somewhere unsafe and unfamiliar to me. By some grace of god, I just came across Kyte (who delivers rental cars directly to your home), and they had a car available, and it was the same price as the GetAround car I had booked. So, hopefully that all turns out well. I will NEVER use GetAround ever again. Ever. This is the reason I stopped using ZipCar (they would pull the exact move -- you reserve a car months in advance, then get an email minutes before your reservation saying it's no longer available, or it was "also booked by someone else"). Bye, no thanks. Not worth it. Maybe it's fine if you're taking the car for a short trip. But even that is awful. I've had planned days at the beach with ZipCar that were ruined as I was walking out the door. It's not worth it. Update: It's been a few hours and GetAround has not responded to my emails (which were simply replies to *their* emails, asking me to get back to them), nor attempted to reach me. Getaround by far, is one of the worst car sharing apps ever invented.. they do not reimburse you for washing dirty vehicles..most of the vehicles either have the key missing or there are children's toys in the backseat.. i tried to get reimbursed for several car issues, including a car wash and was told since the next person who rented after me noticed a dirty back seat then i was not going to be reimbursed. the only time you get to speak to a customer service representative over the phone is when you are actually renting a vehicle and not anytime after. they do not have a direct customer service number and several agents will be on ticket to address it however they ask you to repeat the same issue all over again instead of checking their system to see if a ticket was already implemented. I strongly advise using other car sharing apps or an uber .. this company needs to be dissolved and dissapear forever...SERVICE SUCKS. read more

All went well for my Thanksgiving rental during which I had the car for 1 day and actually drove it for 2 hours. ($5.00 gas). It was safely parked on a quiet street while I had it. Then I receive a note of damages which were on the car's body upon my pickup. They immediately want $1000 dollars and I would like to see any type of body shop work done in 1 day. I never used turo but this company advertises renting a car for $4 an hour . The rental I rented cost me $150 for 13 hours . You have to pay a deposit , I believe because I may have not have a credit card which I had to find out on my own . The deposit is allegedly released 7 days after the rental is over . I'm not sure why they would hold a customers money that long considering how expensive the renting process is . I went to extend my rental & it quoted me double to add on a day when I did it by the hour it was $20 an hour . I'm breaking even renting this car for Uber & I don't understand the false advertisement . The car I rent was an 2020 but the door was dented & made noise upon opening the door . This company is very bad for business. I install the Getaround app on my car on Tuesday . On Wednesday it was OK. Thursday, Friday I cannot use my car. I got up to start my car and my car won't start. That was Thursday and Friday was the same thing they told me that it was the battery .a jumpstart my battery and still nothing. I've been getting the runaround for two days now today they told me they can tow my car back to the shop but I would have to pay the $200 towing fee, I have lost money for two days and even had to put my kids on Uber back and forth to school. I'M NOT USING GETAROUND EVER AGAIN If you see my previous review you can see about the issue I had with the first rental. Well that is not the end of the story. On my second rental, which was made at the last minute on Christmas' Eve because the owner of the car from my first rental had canceled my rental also at the last minute (a few hours before I was supposed to pick up the car), the car had many issues. First off, the owner had published on the car profile page in Getaround that I could use my own EZPass to pay for tolls; which I did. When the trip ended I was charged by Auto Toll service from Getaround for the same tolls that my EZPass had paid. Thankfully, Getaround customer service refunded me for that; because it wasn't my fault that the owner of the rental had encouraged to use one's own EZPass. Moreover, the car was dirty, and the headlights were not working!!! Can you believe that? The headlights were not working and I had to travel 240 miles from NJ to MD at night during heavy rain and heavy fog. Plus the wipers were in terrible condition!! I was using only high beams, visibility was very poor and blurry. The next day Getaround customer service suggested that I return the car immediately to have it removed from listing. So I explained that I wasn't going to cancel my family's Christmas trip for this problem caused by both owners. Apparently Getaround contacted the owner, because I received a text from him right after, asking if I could go to Autozone to replace the headlights. Can you imagine that? I was running chores that belonged to the owner of the vehicle, not me! Nevertheless, I had to comply because I did not want to run the risk of getting pulled over by state police for using high beams on my way back which was going to be on a day with clear weather. Getaround and the owner did provice a full refund for the first canceled vehicle, the tolling and the headlights. CONS: 3 severely bad experiences that could be resolved with simple fixes. 1. Searching for the vehicle - When I got to the Newport Mall, I had issues finding the car. the GPS on the app was showing the car parked outside the mall. Would have been good if the app showed the parking level and aisle where the car was parked - they already have designated areas in the parking garage. That would have saved me 20 minutes of searching for the car. 2- Getting out of the garage - I put in the parking ticket into the machine and it tells me that I have a $185 charge! WHAT!? I had to get on the phone AGAIN and this time it took me 30 minutes to resolve . I had to charge my personal credit card $185, take a picture of the receipt and email the rep, the receipts to just get out of the garage. 3. Returning the car - APP issues again. After I return the car, the app refuses to update the car's location and refuses to let me end the trip. I had to call the rep for the third time and take pictures of the vehicle and email them to make sure the trip ended properly. read more

I rented a car and it was covered in bird poop. On top of that, the interior was dirty, reeked of cigarettes, filled with garbage, and dirt marks everywhere. Upon coming back to the rental spot, I was then charged $56 in tolls. I don't know how this is possible when I literally just ended the trip. I also used my own toll pass. I was then told that they autocharge this, even if I brought my pass. The team's response was "too bad, it says in terms and conditions this car does that." It's not made clear in the site or app. Team just makes you feel stupid for not seeing the fine print in the 20 pages of rules. I told them they need to give riders the option to use their own toll pass because $2.50 PER TOLL PROCESSED is ridiculous. They gave me some insensitive answer that there are cars that give that option. I live in New York. Every car of theirs I'm finding out has automatic tolling. I received no refunds for bird poop car and insensitive customer service. I got $20 in driving credit after fighting with them for an hour, but that doesn't make up for the truly unempathetic customer service. The person who hit me took full responsibility, but by the Getaround contract, I had to pay. The insurance companies took care of it, but 4 months later, I have not been reimbursed by Getaround, so I am out nearly $1000. Getaround says the insurance adjuster will pay me, and the adjuster says Getaround should be paying. It is maddening. The biggest frustration is not being able to reach anyone by phone. The vehicles are NEVER in the same condition as advertised, and usually have some sort of extensive damage which is not mentioned or photographed during booking process. I have had THREE bookings to date, where I found drugs/paraphanelia in the car. one vehicle had a crack pipe sitting on the shifter, another car stunk of weed so bad, that I could not bypass it, and had to spend time searching all over the car to find it, and this happened on a different vehicle. each time this happened, I had to use my time (which I am paying for), and effort to find the drugs which I know are in the car, because if I drive off and get pulled over, I'm the one who's going to be responsible for it. inconvenient, and negligent to say the least. Many or All vehicles advertise the cleaning standards which are in place, and ensure you that the vehicles are disinfected. LOL. I have had over 40 bookings, and I can only think of one trip where I arrived to pickup a car, and things went smoothly, the car was clean, had gas, and no issues. the other 39, I usually wind up sitting in the driver seat frustrated for a good hour or so (at my expense), trying to figure out where the damn key is, where to begin cleaning, because even if only for a day or two, I CANNOT sit in a filthy stinky car. Call me extra, but I like to turn a wheel that don't have boogers stuck all over it. Issues with the app itself: several vehicles which I've rented are (keyless) meaning - the owner has opted to solely rely on the getaround app for the customer to start/stop, enter/exit vehicle. is it a cool feature, sure, it's very smart and a good way to initially enter the vehicle, and use as a backup. But having a physical key is comforting. I have a Samsung, and shocker, it has battery issues. the number of times where I had to find a place to charge my phone up, just so I can get into the car / get going, is unacceptable, not to mention it's dangerous! *** please fix this getaround, cars should always have a physical key, in my opinion.... One evening, I was in rental with one of these "keyless" cars. I had stopped off in NYC in HK at around 3AM or so. If your familiar with the area, then you already know that it's not a place to linger around at this time. My intention was simple, pull over, get a few items from the bodega, and leave. It was a VERY cold night, so instead of shutting the car off, I left the car running, and locked the doors while I was inside store (something which I have already done prior to this, and is a feature of the app). doors locked. came back about 3 minutes later, and doors will not unlock, at all. to add to this, I left the jacket in the car because in my mind, I was just running in/out. LOL. I call getaround, explain my situation and frustration with the lack of a key, etc. did some troubleshooting, and nothing. got passed around to what I'd imagine is every department getaround has to offer, just to get this car unlocked. i was beyond frustrated, and after being transfered between accounting, and fleet sales departments, I was fed up and tired of explaining the issue to departments that were completely irrelevant. all in, it took 1 hour and 15 minutes before I heard the click of the doors unlocking.. I was so annoyed. not to mention the car (which clearly needed a tune up) used over a quarter tank of gas just idling. I asked the rep from getaround if they intend to do anything for me due to this, and I was reimbursed the 1hour and 15 minutes which I was standing outside. cool, but like, what about reimbursement for disrupting my trip, the fuel which burned, the compromising position I was put in at 3am, freezing my ass off on the sidewalk while Getaround's real estate team (lol) was looking into my issue? never got anything from this. So if you book a car that says keyless this is just something to keep in mind.. fuel recordings at end of each trip are never accurate, &getaround is quick to charge you for the difference. fun observation, many times I had picked up a car at 1/8 tank full. and upon returning, car had 1/2 tank full (example) - there is no mention of the surplus of fuel which you have provided. Nada. However, if you pickup the car with 1/8 tank, and return with 1/10th of a tank, you get the bill almost immediately after ending trip, and it's very inflated. not fair at all, especially considering the fact that this function has been faulty many times in the past. when you wish to dispute, getaround requests you send them a pic of the fuel level. I have done this 3x, and all 3x my claim was rejected. I'd hear something back like, "yeah.... looks like your camera angle is slightly off centered". one evening I was rushing to return my rental due at 11pm. I arrived at exactly 11pm on the dot. ended trip, got my bill. I was charged a late return $50 fee. I called up and was told, yeah we see your GPS data shows you made it at 10:59, but you didn't hit the "end trip" button before it turned 11:00, so..... it's late....... read more

I love getaround. i get great cars at great rates right in my neighborhood. The app is super user friendly, every little detail is thought ahead ( submitting dirt or scratches in photos) you can unlock a car through the app so easy. Best part is the customer service!
