Years ago I ate at a Wienerschnitzel in Visalia and it was not a good experience so I was hesitant to try again but always want to give places a chance especially when they are new to town. First note is that the entry to the drive-through is at the very front of the building and you need to turn into it as soon as you turn off of Olive street into the lot. Today someone was at the gas station next-door and was trying to back out and was blocking entry for myself and another car so it can get a bit tricky as far as traffic if that area gets blocked. Now I am a big user of apps and know that Wienerschnitzel does have an app however Porterville is not yet listed as a location so you cannot order through the app at this time I do not know when and if they will update it to add this location. The menu was pretty straightforward. I had wanted to try a chili dog and was kind of sad to see that there was not a combo that offered a chili dog fries and a drink their number one combo is two chili dogs fries and a drink and that's just too much for what I wanted. I did order a chili dog and had them add raw onions. I also ordered small fries and a small Dr Pepper. The drink was a good size, it was closer to a medium at other places so that was nice. It is a bit of a drive home so the food was not super hot by the time we got home but it wasn't bad. Fries were very pale but salted nicely and had a good flavor. I am unsure about the chili dog. It wasn't bad but the hotdog itself was probably the low point. It was very skinny and did not taste like a quality dog. Once I got home I looked in the app and noticed that they offer an upgrade to a "premium" dog which was interesting... based on my receipt it looks like I got that standard hotdog which was fine but if you are able to spend a few more dollars to get a better dog I might try this again with that option. They do offer different varieties of hotdogs as well; the Chicago dog looked interesting but I will have to wait until another time to try that. Looks like they have burgers, hotdogs, fries, drinks, a Polish dog sandwich, and ice cream desserts. I didn't get a chance to take a photo of the menu as the line was moving very quickly. I did not have to wait at all for my food. The young lady at the window was very nice. They have outdoor dining area that's covered. That might be nice during the summertime. All in all I would guess that this was probably not something I will crave but again I will go back and try a different variety of hotdog and see about the upgrade to the premium dog and see if that makes a difference in the flavor. If you are looking for a change from burgers at a reasonable price this may be just the spot.

I usually get the $10 Gotta Habit meal, which comes with half of a Santa Barbara, five piece chicken bites, and your choice of a garden salad, fries, or tempura green beans, and a drink. The salads are always fresh and packed; the tempura green beans are always light and crisp, and the fries are decent. Their new garlic, parmesan cheese fries are good with a funky flavor. When they had their tempura avocado wedges, it became my habit, they were perfectly fried, crisp on the outside and warm and creamy on the inside with a hint of citrus. Their dragonfruit limeade is also my favorite, but it's seasonal. The staff are always nice and friendly. I order ahead to beat the wait. It's usually chill inside even when it's busy. Yes the heat is maddening…read morebut finding a good burger in a new town is just as hard as tracking down a great auto mechanic. I have reviewed another burger joint here in Porterville and have given it top stars but I found J's on my way home after I spotted cars in the drive thru and a big J on the building. Good sign. So my dog and I turned into the shopping center and drove into the lane for ordering. I was driving. She was shotgun. I spotted a cheeseburger for $8.99 and had promised myself not to buy French fries and stick to eating healthy with the lettuce, tomato and protein from the cheeseburger. Wink. So when the mesmerizing and enticing drive thru voice asked me if I wanted french fries with my order, I immediately said no thank you. HOWEVER, I then spotted the SPECIALS sign which had cheeseburger, french fries and drink for the same price. I'd like to say at this time that it was J's fault for having that combo special on their menu that forced me to eat their fantastic fries. It also comes with a drink which I couldn't believe so I truly made the drive thru staff completely confused when I kept changing my order. IN ANY CASE, I was home within minutes and even had time to take pictures before I dove into drive thru deliciousness. Yum yum yum. I'm looking so forward to trying their recommended chicken tenders special. There is a special place in San Diego that has the best chicken tenders I've ever had (Lefty's pizzeria on 30th). I've even reviewed it. Let's see how Porterville holds up to the chicken tender taste test. Can't wait.

The chicken strips and mozzarella sticks were good. Great cheese pull. They could have used a little seasoning though. Now the ranch was very strange, it tasted like ice cream and I'm not sure why. So we didn't get to try our salads yet. Horchata was good, my son said his banana split was good. The bread was good but it could use a little garlic butter. Over all ok experience. Probably won't eat here again though.
