All in all a walk in the park for any locksmith. Specifically, I needed a W7000 core with a A1045 key way for an American A703 padlock AND an additional A703 lock which normally sells for between 22 and 28 dollars. While attempting to describe my requirements, I was met with obstinance, argument, combativeness and dismissal. My attempts to keeps the discussion productive were not reciprocated. After several outbursts from the owner I resolved to simply purchase the lock and leave quietly. The owner then demanded that I pay 75 dollars plus tax for said lock valued at 27.95 according to his own price tag.. I bid him good day and left. Epic fail. In fairness, I had been warned about the surly disposition of the owner by a neighbouring business owner ten minutes earlier but failed to heed the advise.

The part was only $12.00 however, it was the way he asked for the receipt with a smirk on his face and an insincere tone of his voice knowing that I didn't have it. He left after installation saying that he is not responsible for setting up. So I was doing it myself. But I had trouble calibrating the lock because the hole in the frame was not big enough so the dead bolt keeps getting stuck in it every time I tried to calibrate the lock. The technician should have known that before he left and if not than he is not qualified to do his job. So he left knowing that I am going to have trouble when I try to calibrate the lock after he left. So I called him He came again next day but asked for more money to fix it. He said that he need to do some fabrication on the frame and it will cost me another 50$. At first I disagreed so he left without doing anything. Now I am stuck with a door without a fully functional door lock. I will have to ask someone else to come and finish the job and of course pay him again. I finally agreed to pay the additional amount to get the job done since I was kind of in a hostage situation with a non functional door lock on my front door. They agreed to send a technician but nobody showed up. So I end up with a unfinished job in spite of paying the agreed amount and also willing to pay more five days after the job was started. There are a limited number of locksmiths in the GTA that deal with this brand. Although I had three excellent quotes, I decided to go with Dr Locksmith for several reasons: he had extensive experience, he had thorough knowledge of his product, and his prices were reasonable - not the cheapest, but good value. Moni is the owner of Dr Locksmith. During the quote process, I asked many questions and he replied with thorough and clear answers. In addition, he was aware of the gaps in my knowledge, and even answered questions I should have asked, but did not know enough to ask. That impressed me. For example, I did not know that there were several options for key material - not just the standard plastic key. He normally included the more expensive, all-metal keys in his quotes. When he mentioned this, I was thrilled to have the all-metal option. When he arrived and started working, he offered to have me watch. I was very interested. As he worked, he explained what he was doing and how the key features worked. It was fascinating. He had pride in his work. He was meticulous. His eagerness to share his knowledge was wonderful. At my old house the locks were always stiff in winter. I assumed they would be the same at my new house. But over more than four seasons since installation, my new locks are as easy to turn in winter, as they are in summer. I am thrilled with my new locks and with the service provided by Moni.
