How have I not written this review sooner? I have been shopping at Gems for years. Nestled inside…read morethe 5th Street Arcades, Gems Boutique is a beautiful store. The owner, Mary, is a wonderful woman who curates an amazing selection of price points on vintage and newer items. When I worked in downtown Cleveland, I would stop in here on a regular basis to browse (vintage hunting is my happy place). I can get lost for a while opening the drawers, perusing the racks and sorting through the intricate and super cool tables of elaborate jewelry, decor, clothes, accessories and odd but special trinkets. Once Mary gets to know you, she'll keep an eye out for things you might like. She once gave me first dibs on a beautiful Louis Vuitton Pochette I had been looking for. I've purchased several gorgeous fur coats from Mary that are favorites in my collections, and she sometimes will call me if she has a new piece she senses may be my style. That type of personalized attention rarely exists anymore. I also have a Celtic-inspired citrine ring and other accessories that became easy favorites. I love stopping through Gems to either treat myself, or, during the holidays, find one-of-a-kind gifts for friends and family. If you see someone walking down Euclid Avenue under a pile of bags and heavy coats, its likely me. Stop into Mary's boutique, you're going to love it!

Most crystal shops tend to be located out in the suburbs or farther out. The Rock Shop is located inside the same building as The Studio Cleveland and metered street parking is available outside. Given the nature of this less busy street, it's actually not super difficult to find a street spot, especially if you come during a non-peak time (think not Saturday afternoon in the city). The inside is a gorgeous, thoughtfully curated emporium of absolutely beautiful stones, jewelry, home decor, apparel, books and more. The minute you walk in, you are overcome with feelings of beauty and relaxation. If you're new to the metaphysical world, particularly crystals, know that there are a lot of fake products out there or unethically sourced items. Owner Sara takes so much pride in ensuring the quality and origins of her items and she (as well as her staff) are extremely knowledgeable about everything they sell. Inside is incredible, two storefronts and a full basement full of an eclectic assortment all scattered about with only a vague kind of organization. Among the broad categories of items were artwork, books, clothing, cowboy boots, decor and just about anything else you could imagine. I was looking for wooden masks since I have a large collection; of course I really didn't want to find anything to buy, I was just shopping. Scattered about the store were quite a few different masks and other carvings. I finally noticed two masks hanging on the wall behind the main counter, a very detailed Balinese mask and a smaller Japanese Tengu Mask. The owner seemed knowledgeable about the masks, which was welcome and a bit surprising. The Tengu Mask just talked to me and the price was affordable, plus it was small enough that I didn't have to do a major redistribution of my collection. After a short negotiation we came to a reasonable price and the Tengu mask is now hanging in my home. A great cool spot to just browse around and see what hits your interest. There are surprises scattered all over, prices seemed reasonable. The owners were friendly and helpful. Stop in and see what happens.

Nice selection of fabric in the store. After I chose my fabric, took a few minutes to browse. Spotted my favorite brand of threads; Weeks Dye Works. Saw colors I hadn't seen before. While I didn't have much time to look at patterns, there seemed to be a very nice selection at the Crafty Ewe. All the staff members were friendly and helpful. Felt a sense of welcome as if I was family. Upon check-out the loyalty program was explained. I could tell that I was appreciated as a customer. Plan on visiting here again!

If you're quality and service is better than other places, then you shouldn't need to trash talk other places, it should show for itself. The staff is hit or miss on the friendly scale - sometimes they are more involved in taking care of their dogs than the clientele. It's nice to have dogs in the store (unless you're allergic), but the customers should come first.
