Really cool, small space. Very friendly, you can tell it's a staple in the area with staff & customers greeting each other by name. A simple holler breakfast with some biscuits & gravy on the side. Decided to load up early in the day . Tasty, stick to your bones breakfast. So good. Only complaint is the bacon wasn't very crispy but good nonetheless. (Didn't order it crispy so...) Really impressed with the warmth of the place and the people. Recommended getting off the beaten path to check out this gem.

Stopped in today with my momma who lives nearby to look at the cute little decorative gourds inside. We didn't eat but the menu looked good and it's larger with more seating inside than it looks. The staff were really friendly and they had some cool items for sale around the back across from the kitchen like local honey, maple syrup, snacks and drinks, and outdoor-themed goodies like mugs and cups and practical things like scarves and cutlery and matches. It's kinda in the middle of nowhere so if you're here you either live here or you're passing through but it's a small gem off the beaten path for sure.

Our take-out meal before sitting around the campfire on this cool and starry evening. We both opted for this totally loaded BLT and chips. Calling in our order before 7PM was a snap. This quaint little place was busy, friendly and warm. The BLT was packed full with (guess what) - Bacon, Lettuce & Juicy Tomato. With the perfect touch of mayo, salt & pepper. Great little place!

    Italian sub to go

I have wanted to try Gertie's since a friend in Richmond told me about it. I was out hiking in the area this morning and stopped by for a sandwich after the hike. Nice, clean little place run by a young couple who were very nice. There is quite a bit of seating for such a small place, but I imagine this little gem is packed on the weekends especially. People have written notes all over the walls in there. It has that sort of vibe, so if you are going to Vesuvius for fine dining, move on.... I ordered an Italian sub to go so I could take it up on the parkway. They were not busy since it was before noon on Thursday when I showed up. I was offered all the options on my sub so it was a really custom build! Really good sub, good value. Loaded with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, oil and vinegar, some mayo. I will bring a friend or two the next time for a couple beers and a meal. You cannot go wrong with Gertie's, even though it is the only place to eat in the area. I am looking forward to trying it again soon. Great hike, great little restaurant, great trip back to Waynesboro on the Parkway.

Gertie's steak cheese! Delicious! Great stop and wonderful owners!!!!

Great service and steak and cheese was outstanding! Onion rings yummy!!!! Hope to see them again!

We arrived early to get our champagne and walk around the property, which is gorgeous. But beware, you can't add more guests to your party after a certain time so if anything changes with your reservation, let them know ASAP! The wine pairings with each meal were fabulous. I especially liked trying the ice wine at the end with dessert. I also love that they change the menu and are seasonal! Our menu was dreamy! The first course shrimp and grits had us all licking our plates. We even asked the chef at the end how he made the grits. Perfect!! The next round was an interesting goat cheese and corn soup. Loved the pumpkin seeds with it. Then....the filet. YUMMMM! Now they don't ask you how you like it cooked but we all got rare which was fine. The asparagus was nice with it too. The dessert topped it all off, with a perfect peach compote and almond cake that had us all delighted. Or maybe it was all the wine. Not to be missed is the pipping hot French press coffee we all enjoyed after dinner. Again, superior service, cozy atmosphere, and we enjoyed our convo with the chef afterwards. It was certainly a special occasion for the price, but in my party's opinion, very worth it and a night we will not soon forget.

I was already not in the mood for anymore drinking after spending a weekend in a major tournament in Lynchburg. Anyways, for a Saturday evening, this place was pretty packed both inside and outside. They just do them all very slowly or at least they did when I was there. We came here on a Monday evening, and it was somewhat busy but there were visible empty tables and a couple spots at the bar. We went to the bar and waited awhile before the bartender asked what we wanted. I didn't ask for a flight because he seemed too busy. Whatever I wanted they were out of, but I ended up with an Imperial 16-point IPA which was quite tasty. I also got some chicken nachos, but I had to go stand in line to order them. They were adequate but not worth the wait. The place was very disorganized. They had workers always standing by the hostess desk, but the bartender was overwhelmed. Seemed like they should have had more than one, after all it is a brewery. Would have loved to try more beer but we just left and went back into Lexington for another round at another place. I don't know maybe it was just a bad night.

After waiting about 20 minutes our server brought us a roll baked inside of a small crock and served with a tiny serving of cherry butter. The roll was warm but not warm enough to melt the butter. The cherry butter was amazing and something I've never tried; it was the best part of our meal. Our meals finally arrived after another 15 or 20 minutes. The chicken had clearly been grilled to order and was cooked long past done. It was a dry, flavorless morass. The flavorless "stuffing" was unlike any other stuffing I've ever had, but it clearly had been cooked in the past and was just bad. The promised hot honey was MIA. My sweet potato casserole had likely been sitting in the cooler until scooped up, thrown in a serving tray and moved to the oven. If the casserole had been freshly prepared it would have been excellent, but as served it was lukewarm, unattractively presented and tasted like leftover sweet potato casserole that was past its prime. My dining companion tried the corn pudding and thought it wasn't bad but it also looked like it was dredged up from the cooler. Olde Liberty Station's kitchen is in need of an overhaul. We won't be back.
