I highly suggest that you NOT rent from Gerstone Properties. They rent mostly furnished homes through short-term rental leases and, sadly, cater to cancer patients receiving chemo treatments at MD Anderson Hospital. My husband and I stayed at one of their houses for 4 months while he received chemo. First of all, the location, while being 15 minutes from the TX Medical Center, was in a dodgy area, with run down houses, industrial businesses, strip joints, junked out cars and such nearby. Two highways in close proximity and a business receiving deliveries late at night made it very loud and difficult to sleep. We had a persistent cockroach issue. Most, if not all, of the furnishings, bedding and such were the very cheapest you can buy from Wal-Mart. The sheets were the absolute worst I have ever slept on and I have rented dozens of places through short term rentals. We ended up buying a lot of stuff of our own just to make it livable. Many of the things listed on the website never materialized, such as the gate to the private park was usually locked. The absolute worst part was the attitude of the owner, Van Arnold. He was difficult from the beginning. For example, I put the trash can out by the curb but then left to go home for a few days. He knew we went home but sent me a late night text chastising me for leaving it out. The deposit was high, $1500. They held onto it for almost the full 30 days allowed and then only gave me about half back. Some of the charges were legitimate but many were not. For example, my husband slipped in the tub that had no safety features for chemo patients such as safety bars or grippers, and accidentally pulled out a small portion of the shower liner from the plastic hooks. It wasn't even a shower curtain, just a cheap liner from Wal-Mart. You can replace all of that for less than $10. He charged me $50! We were charged way too much for many things, and when I disputed it, I got a snarky email and an offer to pay me $100. Since my husband is ill, as Van is aware, I agreed to take that, because I don't have time or will to fight him. So, these folks basically make money from overcharging chemo patients.
