When it was time to officially leave Hogwarts after earning high marks on N.E.W.T. level exams and securing a position with the Ministry of Magic that finally paid in big-boy/adult money I needed to find a place to live. I did not really know anyone that could help a brotha' out in referring me somewhere, so I took to Yelp to find me an apartmentlocatorsortofperson. I read through some of the reviews and found someone I wanted to use, but that experience did not go very well and I am not going to give that person any free publicity with this review. So I took to Yelp again and uncovered the hidden gem In the Loop Properties - and they did an incredible job for me. I wanted to find a place quick so I sent my information in over the internet on their form. A few hours later I was given the contact information for the guy that was going to be helping me search. Because I am really impatient I also just went over to the office, because I like dealing with people face to face rather than resorting to the phone. In the Loop is in the strip mall on the left side of the street right next to Rudyard's (Waugh is one way only in this part, north straight to the Heights.) As I walked in I met Ada - very friendly. I dealt with Jorge Bolio (and occasionally his wife Heather) in the search for a place to live. They were both very nice, professional, and valued my time - which was nice to have that kind of reciprocity. Everyone kept in touch with me, they kept me up to date on the search, they kept e-mailing the "info sheets" on properties to read through, Jorge drove me out to look at two of the more promising properties, and finally when I thought Houston had absolutely nothing to offer me in terms of what I was looking for: something great happened and it was wrapped up in a box in 40 minutes. After getting an e-mail one afternoon to the effect of "there is nothing here you really want, but maybe you can live with it?" I received a follow-up e-mail a minute later and a phone call. The perfect place and within my price range had suddenly just become available. I conducted a mad dash to go look at the place, toured the property, and made it all my mine with the stroke of a pen and a bunch of dollar bills. The property had been available a sum total of 40 minutes, and not even hit the internets yet, but Jorge knew about it and since it was a GREAT deal, he knew it would not last long so he was willing to be honest that I should pretty much drop what I am doing and go look at it. If he was not great at what he did, this property would have gone to someone else. He knows what he is doing. Because this is Texas if you are non-traditional in any way as you are looking for a place to live: this company is very open-minded, progressive, and tolerant - confirmed elsewhere and by at least one other person on the internets at http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/1635435 the third comment down - so as you are conducting your due diligence on who you want to do business with, just know you are doing business with good people in this office. Oh, thanks sooooo much for responding 6 months after my initial review. I normally don't respond to the owner's response, but my whole experience with ITLP just makes my blood boil every time I think about it. [stepping onto soapbox]: IMO, a large percentage of your clients/potential clients are those moving from out of town. This was certainly true in my case. I had never even been to Houston prior to moving here for school and knew *nothing* about what the rental market was like here. When I found ITLP, I thought I had struck gold and kind of put my rental search on the back burner since I now had professional assistance. Little did I know that my "professional" assistance was anything but. Shantel claims that I began my rental search too early. Okay, I can see that -- I did start looking in April for a July move in date, but is that really justification for not replying to a single email or phone call? Really, how hard is it to just let me know, "hey, it's too early to start looking -- let's touch base in a month or so." -- Yeah, that took me 4 seconds to type out. This brings me to the conclusion that my potential business wasn't even worth the 4 seconds it would have taken to type out that kind of explanation. Nope, instead you chose to leave me high and dry, alone to navigate a rental market I was completely unfamiliar with. And then when I document my experience as a warning to others in my situation, ITLP responds 6 months later with, "you started your search too early"? REALLY???? (insert Seth and Amy's "really" from "Really?!?! with Seth and Amy" from SNL). I understand that some people have had a great experience with this company -- all I'm saying is that I didn't. Had I trusted ITLP til the end, I would have been royally screwed. Just be careful and if you get assigned Shantel Christian as your locator, sprint, skip, RUN the other direction. read more

When I accepted a job in Houston, I knew absolutely nothing about this city and as I'm sure you're aware -- Houston is HUGE, y'all. I didn't even know where to begin looking for apartments, and the no-zoning threw me a bit when I was looking at listings -- sure, an apartment looked gorgeous, but for all I knew it was sandwiched between a Taco Bell and a strip club. Although I love lap dances and chalupas as much as the next gal, I really needed someone who knew their stuff to help me out. Shannon Chapman at In The Loop Properties was phenomenal. She wasn't afraid to tell me unsavory details about neighborhoods and management companies, and she was totally committed to making sure I didn't end up in a crack den. Shannon was efficient, professional and incredibly nice -- she knew every neighborhood inside and out, and she helped me find an absolutely gorgeous apartment. I had a lot of anxieties about moving cross country and starting over on my own, but Shannon made the process as smooth and pleasant as possible. I had like less than a week to find a place to make a move to the Houston area that was close to Rice Univ, Close to work near the Galleria, and was in a decent area. I saw Drew's Listing on www.har.com and decided to give him a call since he said he specializes in residental leases. I made the call Wednesday, he took me around Thursday and i saw some things that not only fit the budget but were pretty close to the criteria I needed. Even tho I had to fly out on Friday, he made a point to keep the place I was interested in and also if something similar came about to help me get that one too. Well I got the place I liked in a nice area, and it jus made a 1500 mile transition that much easier. This past Sunday, Shantel Christian was scheduled to meet me and my fiancee at a house In the Loop had listed. We arrived at the house at 5pm, just as planned, put Shantel did not ever show up. Nor did she respond to email. Or phone calls. The worst part was that we had left my parent's house (where we had been enjoying a weekend visit) early on Sunday morning in order to meet Shantel. It's clear to me that this company does not really want our business, so we have been forced to look elsewhere. Save yourself the time and frustration before considering In the Loop. read more

I was going crazy in our small condo and had to escape as soon as our lease was up. I wanted to find a realtor that knew leasable places inside the loop really well and all the other yelp reviews pointed me here! I sent an email via the web site and was assigned Heather. When we got closer to the time of moving she would send us a list of place about every 3 days. She did a great job showing us lots of different options in our price range and the area we wanted. Its just that they were stolen from me before I could go see them! Such a crazy real estate time! But we did find one eventually and with plenty of time to get the lease finalized and warn my landlord that we were moving. My only complaint was how disorganized the paper work was done. There were many mistakes made on the typed up lease and we had to fill out the same paperwork multiple times. We were also asked to move back our move in date which we didn't have a problem with, but a few days before time to move in we noticed that date had never been changed in the lease! I know, that is partially my fault but with all the other errors if assumed that this would have been fixed at a later date. Luckily our new landlord didn't mind pushing back the move in date as we had already scheduled movers for a specific date. I would be much less hesitant to recommend In the loop if my paperwork had gone much smoother. But they were great at knowing where the new properties were which is useful these days with properties getting leased in less than a week. read more

I kind of love these guys. I didn't work with them on trying to find a place; I happened to respond to an ad and snagged the apartment the next day. So maybe it is a little more difficult to work with them when you have a specific budget or need. These guys have been pretty cool since I signed the lease papers. They e-mail notices, they don't show up in the apartment unannounced, they take care of the grounds however small it may be, the one maintenance issue I've encountered was resolved within two days. I lived at 1901 Whitney place for a little over a year . Me and my 2 fur babies loved it! Great neighborhood. Walking distance or a quick Uber ride to local bars and restaurants and a 10-15 min drive to the galleria . All of my neighbors were super friendly. I made some friends and met a lot of great people . I moved from cleveland Ohio and had 2 friends when I arrived . The maintenance is on point. They have all repairs made super fast (next day if not the same day ) . It was cute cozy . Perfect for an out of state transplant or single guy or gal . If you're looking for an affordable and safe place to live inside the inner loop these are your people ! read more

I've tried to work with In the Loop a couple of times already. The fact of the matter is, if you don't want to pay $1,300 for a property inside the loop, then they're not going to bother to help you. They will tell you this is a busy rental season or everybody wants a property with the same list of things in that price range. I get it though. Inner Loop properties are pretty hot. They go rather quickly on the HAR.com website. Speaking of which, you'd have better luck with HAR and calling realtors on your own then you would with In the Loop Properties. But, if you're from out of town, don't know any better, and want to pay tons of money for an apartment (because the landlord knows somebody will), then this is a great service for you and the best of luck with your search. read more

I was contacted by Jorge when I requested to tour one of the properties he had on HAR. It became clear very soon into the tour that the property was not right for me. He asked me several questions about what I was looking for and said he could make several suggestions based upon what was important to me and the current market fluctuations. Shortly afterwards, he sent me a list of 10 properties to review with his recommendation on which one would fit me. I was very skeptical of his top pick but after touring it and seeing all the amenities and location benefits, I agreed. I am not moved in and so happy I let him take control of my apartment search. This company must have no idea that they are actually a business. It took me an e-mail, and two phone calls to even reach someone. When I finally did, the guy I reached seemed hardly above apathetic. I told him what I was looking form the range of rent I was willing to pay. His reply was a mixture of excuses, involved no questions or 'getting a feel' for possibilities I may be open to exploring, and lastly, that he would get back to me. It has been two weeks of nothing. I have had friends rent on or through properties they oversee. I have almost 20 years living inside loop 610 and I KNOW what is possible. I thought I would give this company a try to save myself some effort this time around. They are as useless as a screen door on a submarine. My advice, just take the time to drive around neighborhoods you like, Facebook for assistance from friends, or try any given number of smaller property companies, Craigslist, or HAR (Houston Association of Realtors). I used one of the agents at this realty for an apartment rental. He told me that I needed to give 2 months rent, 2 months security, plus the non refundable cleaning deposits. After i moved in I was given a form to fill out with the problems with the unit. After filling them out, I asked if he took care of talking with the property managers. Well it turned out i only had to give 1st months rent, and a small security deposit. After many calls and begging he swore he sent in my maintanence problems. I kept asking the property manager and she swore she never received them. I kept asking for a copy of my lease. Needless to say nothing ever was done since they didnt receive the paperwork until 4 months after I moved in. Never did I receive a copy of my lease, and the work, which included carpeting bunching, which I wound up tripping over the hump, shattering my ankle and causing sepsis. Am recovering from the break, almost 1 million dollar hospital bill and a lot of physical therapy visits, am doing well. I wouldn't use this realty for all the tea in China. read more

I was expecting the same inattentiveness and un-professionalism when calling this place, but I was sorely mistaken! Michele Bolling went above and beyond my expectations. She was amiable, quick to respond and even welcomed me to Houston! Though I am only in the initial processes right now, if the relationship continues as-is, she will be who we buy a house from next year. This has been a long time coming. My husband and I used In The Loop to relocate from San Francisco to Houston in 2011. As you can imagine...it was the biggest culture shock possible from CA to TX....but because of Jorge... it was a very pleasant transition. Jorge Bolio helped us find a rental, and spent tons of time just showing us around town. It was such a wonderful experience, that we plan to use him when we decide to buy a house in the area. I can't say enough about how wonderful he was. He really was more concerned about our needs than what a homeowner/renter needed. IS THIS COMPANY EVEN LEGIT?? I have seen some hard times fall on many companies but I think this one takes the cake. Not only do they slam their competition (very unprofessional) but they will steal your application fee and never return your calls. My personal experience with this company consists of me filling out their online questioner, waiting waiting and waiting with no response AT ALL from anyone at this company. I decide to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe their website wasnt working properly so after 3 days I called....no answer.....so I called back again the next day and reached a lady by the name of Ada who although seemed nice enough she was completely flying with her head in the clouds and unable to answer any of my questions about the neighborhood. When I asked her if it was possible to find a place within my budget of $1000 she warned me that it would be very tough and that it might take more time than she would like to spend. Although the service of in the loop properties is supposed to be free I was lead to feel like I needed to offer her some money for gas and her time involved. It made me feel very awkward!! Despite my first impression of this company I was lost and desperately needed their assistance in finding a place to live so I proceeded forward with Ada and managed to find a place that was suitable for my needs, I even paid her some gas money which she gladly accepted from me (I was shocked)! When I submitted my application and application fee of $35 thats when it all went down hill. I did not hear back from her for 4 days, I left several messages and she did not return my calls, when I finally reached her by calling from my friends cell phone she abruptly informed me that the landlord when with another applicant. I asked if I could get my application fee back and she said "its non refundable and you signed the disclaimer agreeing to that". I didnt recall signing anything stating that but admittedly I never thought I would be scammed out of 35 bucks....Pitiful!! No worries folks, this story does have a happy ending after all! After being scammed by in the loop properties I attempted my own online search for an apartment and it was there that I stumbled across an ad on Craiglists for an apartment for lease. The Realtor that I spoke with bent over backwards to help me find the perfect place to rent and even gave me $35 back after I leased the apartment to make up for what in the loop properties had done. In The Loop provided a pleasant alternative to the traditional cookie-cutter complex-to-complex hop. Eric Bradley showed me a nice range of places and was clearly ready and able to answer questions about the surrounding neighborhoods. At no time did I feel I was being hurried or hustled. My only complaint was that I would have preferred to have seen a more comprehensive list of available properties immediately prior to my visit (I was coming from Brooklyn and only was in town for a day and a half). However, I do realize how quickly the listings turn over, especially since I was looking mid-summer, and so, I do not fault Eric for this--I'm sure he made the best of what was available at the time. All in all, I expect that once I tire of complex life I shall again seek out Eric and In The Loop Properties. Of course, next time I'll be able to adopt a more leisurely pace and thereby be better able to take advantage of what In The Loop and great agents like Eric can offer. read more
