This is a dive bar, which honestly are pretty cool places to come to. The beer was nice and cold and the atmosphere was very casual. Unfortunately I've heard absolutely great things about the wings. As a personal preference I didn't think the wings were that great. They had decent flavor but they were the same fried wings you get at the big box restaurants, and they only had one flavor?? Again this is an opinion, but if you want some outstanding wings you have two options. The first would be to go to chicken coop in the Des Moines area. They grill them and have a great selection of sauces, so it is a tad healthier but more importantly, juicy. The second is to get yourself a smoker, (I use electric), and find a good easy recipe online. In about two hours you can have some fantastic wings that were smoked right from home. I would never make a point to come here for the wings, however to have a cold beer this place would be a great place to relax at the bar top. read more

It has been quite a while since i have had worse service. 2 ladies working the bar were openly hostile to anyone but their regulars. Waited over 15 mins to get even acknowledged that we brought a part of 8 in. The youngest person in the group was 42, and she carded the entire group, and asked anyone without their ID to leave, and did it rudely. I don't mind them carding, but if you are over 40, you usually don't get an attitude. Was told we can order things, but only the fryer was on. Again, in rude manner. It was made very clear to us that we were an inconvenience to them and they didn't want us there, but we had already committed to we stayed through. Our friend wanted to take us out to lunch today and said we were going to Gerry's. I have never heard of this tavern so as usual I go to Yelp to see the reviews. I have to say that I was a bit hesitant to go there, but thought I will give them a shot. I was glad that I did! The server Dana was very pleasant and personable. We were not seated long before she came and took our orders. The food was delicious! I had a tenderloin and fries ( half of which I took home), my husband and his friend both had Hot Sausage Sandwiches. The food was tasty, the fries were crispy. The bar was clean, the bathrooms were clean. The other patrons were friendly as well. We will be going back for sure!!!! Worst service ever! Got there around 9:45 and the place was decently busy. Sat at the bar for about 10 min before the "inexperience" bartender came and asked if I needed anything. Ordered a blue moon and while he handed that to me, I ordered there wings to start. Waited about 20 min before going to the bar and asking them to canceled my order. Honestly this place is a dive bar with slightly high prices. The bartenders are rude and short. Unless you are a regular east sider and they know you by name you will undoubtably be mistreated. Don't ever ask what drinks they have or if they have drink list, you will get a look like you're a freak. They lady said we "made her nervous" because we asked for a menu. The wings are overrated. Was served beer that was expired over 2 weeks... Bartender was rude and inexperienced. Bloody marys usually come with olives and pickles if they ask you, but didn't even get asked. No flavor at all. And the last time i was there he complained about his tip while he sat there and drank on the job with a girl. two other guys at the bar had to get his attention multiple times.
