    Miss Fiesta contestants 1954

Let me start by saying that Dolores, docent at the Museum, is a truly beautiful person and went above and beyond to help me in my search of pictures of my mother. My mother was the first Fiesta Queen back in 1954, Teresa Benavidez. It was mind blowing to see her name and picture from a news clipping displayed! Even more special, while my mom and I were checking things out Dolores was going through a binder of photos from that year, more treasures were found. Although my journey to the museum was of a personal nature, I highly recommend any one that enjoys history and nostalgia from a bygone era to visit. This museum is an absolute gem.

I was staying two nights here at the hot mineral springs. I was having such a lovely relaxed time I decided to walk around the neighborhood and I found this museum. It was veterans weekend and I was surprised that there were not a lot of visitors in this town. The greeter was a native American named Harold who told me he was 77 years old. Somehow I believe it might not have been his real name. It probably was just easier to pronounce. I took quite a bit of time touring all the rooms. It really gives you the history of the area and especially this town. I spent quite a bit of time talking with Harold who happened to be a veteran. I even saw an actual dinosaur head up close and personal. It was too cool. Don't let the obvious smell of decades of artifacts deter you. It's not about glitz and glamor. I'm afraid this history will be gone if someone like Harold is not there to take care of it.

Admission price $6/adult is kind of steep for the experience. The best exhibits were the Indian pottery, arrowheads and tools. The rest of the museum was a mish mash. The while museum is probably less than 2000sf Don't park in front of the vape store because you will be asked to move.

This museum is small but pack with artifacts and character. Every nook and cranny has something historically relevant to the city and the area. The musuem store is filled nice thing and many interesting books.

Well worth the admission. Small building jam packed with local history. Native Americans, Hot springs, miners, cowboys and Game show host. Collections of pottery, minerals, saddles, hats and local Fiesta Queens.

This is a small town museum done oh-so-right. I'll give you the highlights. There are a bunch of rooms, and each room has a collection of stuff along with lots of explanations about some aspect of history in the town of Truth or Consequences. For example, there are fossils and minerals, LOTS of Native American pottery (all organized), stories and pictures from the Apache Wars (accounts given from all types of people involved), basics of cowboy life, a rebuilt authentic log cabin, then on to WWII-era memorabilia, and so on. The gift shop also has a plethora of cool stuff, as long as you're willing to look through it and pay a bit of money. The collection of books has everything from cooking with chiles to Native American histories. And there are even stacks of topographic maps for the careful hiker in the area. (Then of course there's the typical t-shirts, shot glasses, etc.) The lady running the place is a real sweetie (although she seems a little spacey), and she's happy to talk with you about any old thing. Stop by here! It's only five bucks, and you won't regret it!

One of the best small town museums I have ever been to. It feels like a loving tribute. The displays are really nice and they have some amazing things to see like the mastadon head and trading beads. It is bigger than in looks from outside. I spent 2 hours here. We especially enjoyed touring the log cabin. Staff is really friendly and welcoming. Nice activity room where kids can make crafts and try on old time clothes.

I wasn't sure why anyone would ever stop in Truth or Consequences, much less go to this seemingly rinkydink museum, but that I suppose is exactly why museums exist. So you can learn a lil' suntin' suntin'. Here you'll get the history of how the city abandoned its "Hot Springs" name for the the much more memorable T or C thanks a to a game show host and a nationwide contest. You'll find plenty of local history, from Geronimo and other notable Apaches to the frontiersman and conquistadores that made their way through here and the surrounding area. There is a lot to read and a lot items that seem to have been haphazardly assembled after some wealthy donor passed them off, but many of these are interesting to look at. The one staff member present was happy to talk about T or C and encourage our group to check out the local hot springs, which I did not know existed until this visit. I guess that name change kind of backfired. One qualm about this place was the $6 entry, which seemed a bit steep although as I write this, it seems less offensive. Oh well.

Gernimo Trail National Scenic Byway Visitors Center - Excellent information about the "Jornado Del Muerto"!

Much to my surprise, this fine albeit small branch is located within a very good visitors center, which also includes a museum/information on "Spaceport America", most closely identified with Sir Richard Branson & space tourism. Both the library and the visitors center were very capably handled by two extremely knowledgeable women, each dedicated to bringing the best information & services to any curious individuals who enter. Besides a plethora of printed documents in all forms from newspapers to postcards to maps to fliers, she answered all my queries pertaining to this area, notably "Why would any traveler a hundred years and more before venture away from the reliable freshwater source of the exotic Rio Grande/Rio Bravo by veering Northeast through the forbidding/water-less "Jornada Del Mureto" ("Journey of Death")? [To avoid the inevitable/agonizing pre-(motor)vehicle route over a very rough but relatively "flat" route.] My wife & I walked further inside, to the "Spaceport America" information/museum, stopping briefly to observe an appealing hands-on display/command module for children. Far more interesting were hands-on displays concerning gyroscope effects and keeping your balance/center-of-gravity, both very challenging for astronauts, much less for us non-astronauts!
