The doner rice bowl was... fine. Nothing special, nothing objectionable, but certainly fine. However, the chocolate waffle bread was a disaster... lifeless, bland, didn't taste the least bit fresh. We saw this new spot in Sugar Land and had to give them a try! Originating in Berlin in 1989, this chain has made its way through the UK, Europe, Middle East, and even having a few locations in the US. They very thinly slice the meats and it comes with three different dipping sauces. Personally, I really like the two white sauces for both the meats and the fries. Not what we expected. My husband is from Berlin so we have spent lots of time eating in the motherland. This meal in Houston just reminded us that we are from Germany. The Döner we got had some spicy salsa on it and not the fresh veggies you get from Germany. You can just look at the photo I took and if you have ever had the real deal you will be disappointed. They had also run out of the bread for "the original" so we had the low kcal bread which was fine. They need to work on putting more fresh veggies and the Döner sauce that is expected. Okay, this new place in Sugar Land was really fun to try. I've been wanted to try German Döner for a while, and it is so convenient that they opened up in Sugar Land town center! For about $10, you get a huge sandwich with really good meat and bread. We tried both the beef and chicken Döner, and I have to say the beef is better. We also ordered one serving of the curry fries, and to be honest I couldn't taste the curry, but the sauce that came with the fries was really yummy. Overall, this is a once in a while spot for me. They have a few sauces to help with that but I had a hard time getting some of the sauces out of the packaging and on to my original style sammy....I got beef. You get plenty and it's kind of pricy. This place has been popping. Sugarland has been quite a buzz about this restaurant, but what is it really about? German Doner Kebab (GDK) is a chain, with locations across the US, and various different countries. I would honestly call it a Mediterranean Fusion Fast Food place. Inside, the fast food place is pretty neat, and very eye appealing. There is seating outside and inside. So, in total transparency, I actually came to this restaurant the first month when they opened. The hype was REAL, this place was insanely packed. We ordered various things off the menu, they took our order, gave us our number, and we sat outside (since it was the only seating available). We waited an HOUR, and never got our food. 40 minutes in, they came outside and gave us free spring rolls, due to the long wait. It was odd. After the hour passed, they told us that they had completely run out of the food. The manager came to apologize, told us that they didn't predict the hype they would get in the area, immediately refunded my food, and gave me a bunch of coupons to return. Since I'm a reasonable person, I completely understood where they were coming from. I had no quarrel with these folks, and last week I decided to give them a second chance (plus I had to put those coupons to use). This time around, the staff was friendly, we ordered a Doner Krunch Burger and a Doner Wrap. Since I had a terrible first visit, they also threw in some complimentary Spring Rolls. The food was descent. The Doner Krunch Burger made us laugh, because it looks like something you would make at your house as a kid. It literally is a sandwich with Doritos crushed into it. The Doner Wrap was great , with plenty of veggies and meat in it. On both visits to this place, the Spring Rolls have been Superb! The sauces they come with are good too, and I'd definitely recommend snagging those. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, and the staff are friendly. Do I feel like this place is overhyped? No doubt! This gets as authentic as it can to a Doner in Germany. Why? Because the meat taste like proper Doner, not the gyro stuff you get from like Halal guys. The bread is a triangle and pressed. The slaw is purple. Is it the best Doner though? Not really, it kinda has this above average mall Doner taste, not the "4am food from heaven/how did I end up in east Berlin" taste. They are definitely not stingy on the meat and the slaw but the sauce were a bit disappointing, there was not enough and not garlicky enough. We decided to drive to Sugar Land Town Center to try this place out. We ordered the Original, the Krunch burger, spring rolls and jalapeño poppers. The Original and Krunch burger were pretty good. They loaded the Original with alot of meat. The spring rolls were extremely greasy and could have used maybe some cabbage for some freshness (?) and there was nothing special about the jalapeno poppers., which were also greasy as well. Overall, I probably wouldn't make the drive out here to try again. If I am in the area, I might come back to try other items on their menu. read more

I've been to Germany many times and I always stop in the airport before I head in or out and get a Döner. It's magical. Well I had to try this place. Was it perfect? No. But it does a very reasonable job of making a Döner. I had the wrap. I wish there was a huge spread of toppings that I could pick from and tell them what to put in it, but that is done behind the scenes here. I was able to make sure I didn't get any nasty lettuce. Cabbage on a Döner, people! They put a couple sauces on it basically a garlic and tzatziki and hot sauce. I just went with it all and it tasted really good. I had some curry fries to finish off my meal and they were tasty also. If you're craving for a Döner and you're not in Germany, this is your spot in Houston. read more

Do yourself a favor and try it. My husband and I both ordered the OG beef sandwich with curry and flaming fries. The beef slices are nothing to write home about, but the combination of vegetables and sauces really help to make the sandwich shine. The bread was good but as you get to the bottom of the sandwich you're left with just a small clump of bread; this is where the sauces come in. The restaurant offers three sauces, a garlic, yogurt, and some sort of spicy sauce. I would recommend dipping the remaining bread or fries into either the garlic or yogurt sauce. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the curry and flaming fries but for the most part they are restaurant standard. The sandwich is HUGE you get a lot of bang for your buck. With that being said I would highly recommend getting the half version unless you want to food coma. The restaurant itself is super cute and the inside is pretty modern. The booth seats are made out or a soft plush material which is nice for longer lunches with friends. Finally Robert was AMAZING! He went above and beyond to give us exceptional service. He recommended sauces to go with each of the fries, gave us sauces to go, and also cleaned up the table and offered to get us refills. When I had sight of an ad for German Döner Kabab near my home. The next day Stacey and I went for dinner and GDK didn't disappoint. My meal-- self serve soda, beef and French fries -- was even better than the sandwiches I had in Germany. Everything in the sandwich was hot, fresh and full of tasty goodness. Be warned, the sandwich is Huge! The service is on par or better than what we normally experience in Town Center. GDK was first introduced to me via Uber Eats and I was amazed. I have now returned several times to eat their original German Doner Kebab. I love how their box is shaped like a triangle and how the interior of the restaurant is lively. You can also see the kitchen staff prepare the food. Really looking forward to trying to this place and was not disappointed! It is different than what is around town for sure. I had the original chicken kebab, flaming fries, and soda. I enjoyed everything, and I can't wait to go back again. Everything was really good, and I want to try all the sauces next time and the curry fries and aryan drink! They have unique sodas available at the soda machine like sprite with vanilla/citrus, etc but of course they have the usual. The soda machine is a touch screen but you push the bottom in order to get the ice/drink. Pushing the touchscreen doesn't let the ice or drink flow down. They also have a machine that you can order by yourself if you dont want to place it at the front. The restaurant itself is clean and staff is very nice.
