I brought my car in. They had it for almost 7 months total and it runs just as terrible as it did when I brought it in. The last month, it was back and forth to the shop and they still couldn't fix it. They also charged me almost twice the quote so now I've wasted money and time with no improvement on my vehicle. To say that I am unhappy is an understatement. They literally endangered my life and almost caused me to crash the first day that I tried to drive the car after waiting nearly 6 months. It was shocking and irresponsible. I dropped off my Mercedes to diagnose an issue where it would randomly shut off while driving and they diagnosed it to be an Abs related issue and sensor. I thought that was odd as the ABS unit wouldn't cause the vehicle to shut off. Two days later it shut off again after I picked it up from repair after they charged me $1,000. I dropped it back off and they've had it for 6 months and couldn't even diagnose the issue and didn't fix anything. I had to tow back my own vehicle because they couldn't fix it. Don't bother bringing your car here unless you just need a brake change or oil change. They will constantly give you the run around while you wait for your vehicle to be repaired. I've genuinely contacted this place 6-7 times on the status of my car and they would keep postponing it and bullshit me. Take your hard money elsewhere and you'll thank me later read more

I took my older Mercedes in a couple of times starting 2018 because it would stall out randomly, first time the owner (older guy) told me to leave it and they'd call when diagnosed. I called a couple of times and they "hadn't gotten to it yet," then the 3rd time he says "it's ready, come and get it" said it was fine. So I got there and saw the odometer hadn't moved an iota, he didn't deny it but said they can't diagnose unless they see it while driving, meaning they hadn't tried driving it even. So I drove around the block, it stalled out at a stop and I walked to his shop from where his son "Junior" did come to see and got it started, we drove to shop where I left it. (So I believe person who experienced same, a claim it was looked at when it wasn't, but at least I hadn't been charged to diagnose, just lost 3 weeks with no car. The "repair bill" was around 1800.) When I picked it up it drove but a couple mos. later same thing. More work that was hard to figure out from the handwritten invoice, about 1600. This time it stalled again soon, including downshifting downhill and at stop lights, it started up again OK, but I worried each time I'd be stuck even on a highway. Each time he couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong, "maybe spark plugs" that they changed. Or ABS issue. Like with another poster Junior turned off the check engine light but never definite why, along lines of these things go off on older cars. But it was always long enough to pass smog so didn't seem substantive. Maybe it was from oil still leaking. I'd had the major things replaced already so was mystified. They never gave me an estimate upfront, he always said he can't until they start working. Refused to consider parts from eBay or O'Reilly down the street, even when I showed him they had in stock the right parts like motor mounts, only ordered expensive new Bosch which made no sense for my car. Somehow the owner seemed sincere enough and "fatherly," old-school from Europe, yeah I know I sound naive and was. Kept bringing it back for other things too, like transmission jumped and leaked though it had been rebuilt, engine ran high, some things they fixed fine, son "Junior" seemed to know his stuff though did say he hated working on my car (someone else said something similar), but Dad the boss said they don't hate any cars and it was a good car. Yeah because they'll take your money. My last visit Owner advised me to change my wipers which worked fine so I said OK since "it's only $20" but at next rain it got stuck in the sides of window (just one large wiper) and motor burned out. He denied he'd put the blade in wrong so it got stuck, just said it was too long is why - which made no sense, he'd put it in to replace a good wiper blade. I was too worn out to argue but have to replace a wiper motor now. Then the car stopped working, just wouldn't start up this time, had it towed home. Called him and he said bring it in, I said I was burnt out with repair costs when it was still stalling with no explanation, he advised to donate it then. It's now a bona fide classic I've cared for with TLC looks very nice and fetches good money in running condition but rn I'm stuck. After spending so much money. read more

My Porsche Cayenne gave me a message that said "Do not drive, top coolant off" while I was driving to my gym Results Fitness on Walnut in Newhall. After my workout I walked to German Autohaus to see if they could help me. Joe at German Autohaus asked me to drive my car to his shop so he could ck it out. After checking it out, he told me my coolant was low. He topped it off and also told me it appears my thermostat may be bad. He told me to drive it around the block a few times to be sure it wasn't over heating anymore which I did. When I returned to his shop, I told him it was fine now. I asked him how much do I owe, he said NOTHING. I insisted I pay him but he refused. I will definitely be bringing my car back to him when I need service. Thank you Joe! read more

What's worse, not all of the required visual inspections/maintenance ever happened. I know this because the brake fluid cap was covered in dust when I left (e.g. never opened to be changed). Went back last month after the car stalled out a couple times, didn't know why, had it towed in after calling owner, he said the lot was full but can leave on street safely, I said OK. During the week they said they'd tried but were unable to find anything wrong. I picked it up, drove around and it stalled in front of the shop so Joseph started to examine it seriously: they will tell you upfront, they need to experience the problem, if it's intermittent maybe it depends on what kind/ make of car and what's involved to diagnose? Ask. The other German car specialists in SCV generally charge just to diagnose and from talking to them they mostly rely on diagnostic machines not acquired knowledge from years of collective experience like these guys. Work was done with care and thoroughness, Joseph showed me what needed work and then did more later, after calling me to discuss; very fairly priced, Joseph and Jr. are craftsmen, in the "old school" tradition. Sr. is a very Interesting, cultured man who I talked with a bit, sons are super-helpful and know their stuff too. (They're not only the best in SCV but there's only one shop in MBZ-German-car mecca Santa Monica with a similar old-school European owner that I'd compare Joseph to -- plenty of scammers there as well, fleecing the ignorant wealthy.) Thanks to in-house stock, they have parts you can't find anywhere else, maybe only if you order from Germany - if it comes to that they'll do it. Like someone else said, they use original parts, e.g. Bosch for MBZ, no downmarket parts, if you care about your car being restored to its original condition for the best price this is the only place. It did take longer overall but once they take charge you're in the best hands. One-year warranty on parts AND labor so time to test it out. NOTE: SINCE THEN when I took it in for scheduled work they did it on time as promised and I still feel lucky I found them out here in SCV. read more

I've used German Hi-Tech before and I have much more confidence in German Autohaus. A bonus is that this facility is also a body repair shop and repaired a dent in my fender at half the cost quoted from Valencia Body Shop. The body repair is perfect (and I am VERY picky when it comes to my car). Would give more stars but it's a no frills shop in a not so fancy location. read more

Got into an accident with a person and recommended 7 Speed Auto which is German Autohaus's neighbor. They share the same address but are separate companies. The person got confused and dropped off the car at German Autohaus and the owner Joseph faxed me the estimate. The person dropped off the car around 8AM and I received the estimate around 9AM. As soon as I saw that it wasn't 7 Speed Auto I called right away and let Joseph know the situation. Simple mistake and we could drive the car over to 7 Speed which is only a couple feet away. Joseph was upset and said he already ordered the parts and that we NEED to pay. It hadn't even been an hour and no one had signed anything or approved of any quote. And he's telling us we have to pay the full amount which was close to $3000. I refused and he started naming all these races saying "you must be Chinese because your cheap." The guy can barely speak English himself. Im not Chinese and not cheap, your just not my mechanic and I want to use my mechanic that I always go to. It was a simple mistake by the driver and he is creating this big ordeal over it. Now he wants us to pay $70 for the estimate which no one was ever told and no one signed for. This guy is completely ridiculous and doesn't know how to run a business properly. read more

I went to these guys twice for routine service on my volvo and they did a reasonably good job. Competitively priced and solid communication. They gave me a good estimate and they were able to get the work done quickly on my car. The two people I dealt with seemed personable and honest, however when I took my car in a couple weeks ago for a routine service and oil change (which was done satisfactorily), they somehow missed an uneven wear (almost like a gash) in one of my tires that was so worn that the metal cable in the tire was showing. That seems like a pretty egregious oversight, and I would expect any routine checkup (especially one that ostensibly checks and replaces brake pads) to catch something this bad. It was a huge cut caused by a misalignment, and the tire was very close to blowing out when I noticed it. So that is frustrating and really makes me doubt that they are doing the thorough check I would expect and hope for on my car. Too bad too, since the location is good for me and the service is convenient. read more

Each time, the owner gave me a rough, verbal estimate... refusing to put any kind of price or estimate down on paper. Each time, the final and accurate price - which was divulged to me only AFTER the work was completed - was much higher than the verbal estimate (and we're talking Porsche here.) My husband and I brought our car in for sparkplug wire replacement. Supposedly the wires were under warranty. About a year later we asked them to change the wires again (under the warranty) The older guy (the owner) responded by saying "How do I know these are the wires I sold to you?". What? Not good business. Used them again to try and diagnose a problem with my car (over heating). Dropped the car off, went by a couple of hours later with a different car, my car was still sitting in the exact same spot. I decided to stay parked for awhile, to see if they were going to work on it. Nope. So I went inside at the end of the day and asked what was wrong with my car, The tall old guy said they looked at it and the cost is $130.00! They never even looked at my car, but now want to charge me for nothing! I told him why are you charging me for not even looking at my car? I told him I drove by and my car was sitting there the whole day. He said sorry, you don't have to pay, give me back my receipt. I will never bring any of my cars, or business to this guy ever again. Years ago I brought 320I in for an engine rebuild. when I went in to pick up my 320I, I walked over to check my car. No engine! My engine was on a on the floor of the property. When I asked what was going on with my car, the soft shoe began. Apparently, they realized the engine they put in was for a 1980 320I....which had a 1.8 litre engine. Mine had the last 2.0 litre engine prior to BMW moving the 320I into into the 318s of the 1980s. Yes as DAVE S stated this is the mechanic you fear. Are they so inept that they couldnt tell the difference between the 320I and the 318?? or Did they try to get the 318 engine in instead of the 320 to maximize profit? Anyway, being captive to this situation, the correct engine was finally put in along with a new dent in the hood. Of course they denied they were responsible. read more

DAS LIAR! THis hack should have recomended totaling my 2009 Jetta TDI instead he took it in and fixed some of the damage. He could not get the alignment within spec and told me that was the best I would get. The body wasnt aligned on the frame, very noticable in the wheel well. The clunking noise it made when turning circles was a bent drive shaft. Joseph refused to tell the insurance agent about the additional work. The paint job is also very thin and scratches easily. Joseph shouldnt be allowed to do business in this country! read more

I had heard so many good things about these guys but I think all their success has made them lazy and unreliable. Their customer service was mediocre but I brought my car in anyways. They quoted me a price that was only minimally better than the dealers, and the owner said he knew exactly was the dealer charged for certain repairs. In any case, he ended up charging me about $300 more than originally estimated, took four days longer, and a week after I got my car back, the lights started up again indicating the same engine trouble. He also said that he could provide pickup and drop off service, but refused pickup after finishing the job. Unbelievable. read more
