Not all cars can be fixed and I stand by that...sadly no cars can be fixed at Halsey's. My "Frankenstein" Samurai was a nut that couldn't be cracked and I understand and I appreciated their honesty...but the next car was a bone stock Toyota FJ with a check engine light..once again, they didn't fix it...then the big problem..my '56 Chrysler...$11,000 to fix leaks that still leak, fix a transmission they torched and replaced that still doesn't shift into gear and for some reason they messed with the carburetor and now it idles at 40mph...$11,000 and I still have leaks, no heat, won't start, won't shift and when I actually do get it running, it's a runaway train...my wonderful dream car is a POS sitting in the garage...I wasn't going to put Halsey's on blast last year when I told Alan he needed to stop spamming me about "bringing my Chrysler back in for service!"...but they hit me up again..so here we are..they can't fix modified cars, they can't fix stock cars (a Toyota..really?) and they certainly can't fix classics. They did fix my brakes with the NOS parts I brought them but otherwise, my car is in worse shape now than it was before they touched it read more

Finally an honest and good mechanic...! Here is my experience at Halsey's: I had taken in our Sonata to the dealer for notification of recall (one of many this car has had). While there I had some of the scheduled maintenance items taken care of but the dealer said I had an oil leak in part of my engine and quoted me over $1,000 to fix it. I have learned not to just say yes to major repairs so I took it to another business I use but they don't do major work and referred me to Halsey's. When I called in I spoke to Sam and dealt with him the whole time until the work was done. Sam had told me on the phone that where the dealer had said was the cause of the leak was pretty unusual and for me to bring in the car. I brought it in and got the 10% check-in offer from them and Sam gave me a call back later in the day. He said that the where the dealer had said the leak was coming from he could see how they got it wrong, but it was actually two other seals that needed to be replaced. They knew this because they take the time to clean around the leaks and test it, but where the dealer said was leaking wasn't. The $1,000 quote from the dealer for the repair that I could have had done that would NOT have fixed the problem, Halsey's corrected. So with the two other places that had the leaks in the seals, the cost was $455 after the discount. They even took care of a small item gratis for me on the car. We were EXTREMELY happy with the work done at Halsey's and the customer service and work done there is top notch...I am highly recommending them and if I have a problem with my car again will be back. Stopped by at lunch after noticing a strange tapping, rolling metal sound coming from my car repeatedly. The receptionist was very nice and asked me to come back 4:30 same day when her manager was there. A large plate had come loose under my car and they were able to quickly fix it free of charge. I offered a tip and they refused to take it. Super friendly and helpful on a moments notice - really appreciated their kindness and help! read more

It is hard to find good reliable mechanic in SCV, my family and three vehicles have given Halsey Auto a try and have been yet again been disappointed. Don't bother trying to drive in as they won't be able to take your vehicle because they are over booked. You will have to make an appointment and hope whatever your issue is isn't urgent. I dropped of my work truck for a basic oil change at my appointment time of 0813 on a Monday. They close at 1630 and after not receiving a call stopped in just before 1600. My truck wasn't finished and they used an excuse of one vehicle of their 5 or so bays delaying my service. Unable to stay another 30 minutes I had to come back late that evening after dropping off our kids to pick up my work truck with the keys hidden in the gas cap. So $147 by appointment oil change that takes all day.... not what I would call good, reliable or reasonably priced considering the service. Guess the search continues to find a Mechanic to bring our vehicles to. read more

Took my truck to get repaired as the fuel pump had an ongoing issue since 2020. John fixed the truck and fuel lines that the previous owners of halseys did not . However , the customer service was terrible . The truck was in the shop for over 3 weeks and we rarely got a call with an update or status . It was not a free repair . We were Promised call backs and we would have to call a week later after receiving no calls to check on status . Never knew the parts were back ordered until we nagged and called again . They never apologized for the lack of follow through and didn't even acknowledge us when we were there to pick up the truck . Never met John who fixed the truck and only dealt with Alan who needs customer service people training skills . A call , status update or acknowledgement goes a long way . Sadly I won't bring my business there anymore as I felt like the bad guy and not like the well treated consumer. This is my second time here. First time was under different ownership. Since it reopened, I gave it a chance knowing it wasn't the same people in charge. My 2006 Chevy Colorado has been wonky for sometime though it's a great little truck. Couldn't use the A.C. Other issues also. Alan and team took it in, fixed it and actually took care of me from day 1. It was costly but there were a lot of issues with it and the price it cost was what I expected to pay so nothing was out of whack. I know cars enough to know what things cost. They also gave me an honest "not worth fixing" on another car that I have that needs a head gasket. Second place that said that. They could've said "sure" and it would have cost way too much (which I would've passed on anyway) but they were honest. read more

I am selling my 2017 Ram Promaster City mini van. I bought in 2 years ago with only 20,000 miles. I put 10,000 miles on it and never had any issues but wanted to have a thorough inspection before I sold it. When I called Halsey's, Derek (Service Manager) was great and offered to service it and do a complete inspection. A few hours later the job was complete and I was told that my van is in excellent condition. As a matter of fact one of the technicians was considering buying it. I would give negative stars if I could. Be careful they are CROOKS and STEAL MONEY from customers !!!! We paid for services and car engine part replacements recommended to get the car working . Because it's a classic car and the engine is customized we had to leave it in the shop for some time. After paying ahead of time to get the services done, they never did anything to the car when I checked back. They refused to give the money back or finish the services I paid for . The owner of the company blamed the unfinished work on a manager that doesn't work there anymore . We paid for services they didn't even do nor would the owner give our money back. The owner stated we had to pay money again to get the services done and for the car engine parts we already paid for prior. I hope no one goes through what we had to go through cause we did lose a lot of money and paid for services and car engine parts we never got. read more

I have had much service on my Trailblazer at Halsey's over the years. It has always been a great experience. Most recently I purchased 2 sets of headlight bulbs from another business with their promise to install them. It didn't work out. So I took the sets of bulbs to Halsey's to see if they could help me. I think the owner and office employees are friendly, and said previously, "down to earth". They stand by their work and although reading a review that speaks of cost and cheaper mechanics out there, excluding dealerships, I have come to learn over time myself (this is just my opinion) that a lot of places do not offer more than a one year warranty and that can be difficult and cost you more in the long run! Wow! Halsey's did it again! This is the most trustworthy outfit I know for car repair. I brought my car in for service like I always do, and Terry called to let me know my front struts were leaking. When I told Terry to go ahead and repair the car he told me they might be covered under my factory warranty. Terry contacted the Dealership, and the struts were covered under warranty! Terry handled the minor service I came in to do and sent me to my Dealer for the warranty covered repair. He saved me HUNDREDS of dollars with his knowledge and honesty. Thank you Terry and Brian for always being there for me. My family's cars won't be serviced by any other place. What other repair shop would be as loyal to me as I am to it? I gave them 2 stars only because they were able to see me on a Saturday at the last minute and Sam was very courteous. That's it for the good part of the review. I took in my car for overheating only after I was recommended by the person at G&M auto, seems to be the owner of Halsey's now. Anyway, I asked them specifically for a quote on replacing two radiator hoses and a thermostat on a Kia Sedona 2002. The person at G&M said we should do an inspection because it could be your fans are not started up, makes sense so I ok'd the inspection which costs $70. Well, I dropped it off, they did the inspection and Sam calls me with a quote over $530 for two hoses and a thermostat replacement! When I expressed my sticker shock he realized that he did not take off the inspection cost. I said it was still too high so I denied the service and paid for the inspection only. I drove the car home and of course it was still overheating but I lived close by. The next day, Sunday, I opened the hood to put coolant in the radiator and to my further shock, the radiator cap was missing. I left them a message on Sunday, expected them to be closed, but never received a call back on Monday so I called around 9am, I assumed they opened earlier. I told Sam about the missing radiator cap, and he said he would ask the mechanic. Of course, they couldn't find it. I said to ask the mechanic to keep looking, I don't have the radiator cap. So they did, and they had some other lady call me to tell me they can't find it. So I'm out $10 for the cap and $70 for an inspection and my car is still not fixed. Not good. I will update this review when I do get my car fixed and the actual price I paid and the mechanic shop I sent it to, to compare costs. read more

UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP & MANAGEMENT Purchased 3 lifetime oil change contracts in 2008 for over 200.00 each. 2 of my cars only had 3 oil changes each using those contracts. Now since there is a new owner, they do not want to honor the contracts and will only offer a 36.99 credit towards their $76 oil change. I can get oil changes from the dealerships for half that price. I met the new owner the first day that they reopened and spoke with him about the contracts I also spoke with the manager in regards to the contracts and they made an agreement with me that they would honor the contract on one of my cars as long as I had my other service's done with them. Now they do not even want to honor that agreement. To Johns reply. I have haven't had any of the recomended services dservices done as of yet because the car had under 50k miles on it. I drove to NEW York in June and now back. That was why I was calling about a service and was told that my contracted is no longer honored and I had to talk to the manager about this spoke to him on the phone now when I go to speak with John he's not available but he was able to respond to this Yelp almost immediately read more

I called to find out how much it would be to get the A/C compressor changed and my A/C system recharged on my 98 Honda Accord. Mr. Halsey answered the phone and after giving him the details on what I needed, he said he would give me a call back with the pricing. My husband and I (and our dog) were headed back to home (Las Vegas) after a visiting family in California. As we are driving we notice our AC flow is slowing down and it starts getting warm. It's around 3pm and very hot outside so I quickly Google AC auto repair near me. I see Halsey's is 6 minutes out from our location so we head there. We pulled in and Brian checked our AC. He thinks it's the carbon filter. The technician takes the filter out and shows it to us. It was filthy. Brian made a phone call and the replacement came in about 30 minutes. The price was reasonable and the service was great. Brian was kind and the work was quick. We were back on the road with a comfortable AC once again.
