Ben Martinez was really great and helpful with getting me in quickly and Kenny who worked with performing the service was great. I've never had a car appointment be so quick, efficient, and straightforward. I had the light come on telling me to add a quart of oil when I really needed a full oil change. They gave me a number to text with the car information so all the materials could be ready and they even noticed the air pressure in my tires was off and fixed that. These are not people who upcharge or try to take advantage of someone who doesn't know much about cars. This review was an issue that happened years ago. I had my father bring in my 2007 BMW 328xi years ago. I wanted to them to evaluate if there was an issue with the shifting since I was a bit OCD on how it felt. They charged to diagnose. Next thing I know my father gets a call stating that the transfer case is shot and is on a lift ready to be replaced for $5,000 and they were pressuring my father to move forward. I know the issue I wanted them to look at had nothing to do with the transfer case. I told my father to pay for their phony diagnosis charges and pull the car out away from them. I ended up taking it to a more trusty German mechanic a block away called Kirberg Motors. They told me there was absolutely nothing wrong. I recommend you go to Kirberg Motors. Update to Response: Hi Jeannine. I wouldn't mind working with you to figure who was involved in providing a false diagnosis for a $5,000 job that it didn't need to prevent this from happening again. There was never a problem with it to begin with and the transfer case has been working perfectly for 5 years without issues. If a mechanic states something is "shot" it means it's no longer functional. After a second opinion, it was clear it was no where clear to being "shot". I understand diagnosis has a fee, but it is the fact I was charged for a false diagnosis I'd like to highlight here. Charging for a false diagnosis is called a scam as well as charging for parts and work that is not needed. My primary concern is that I see this as a situation like this as a reflection of other possible falsely diagnosed issues with other customers. Thank you for offering a free oil change but I think it would be common sense not to trust this establishment with my cars after this incident. read more

My review is a personal encounter I had with the owner of GAK. I pass up GAK everyday going to and from work. Today my tire blew right before the stoplight at Harbor and Old County. I pulled over immediately when I heard the tire blow in front of the GAK parking lot. I got out of the truck and went into their office. I was greeted by a nice woman to whom I explained my tire blew and if it's ok where I was at while I call my husband to change it. The woman politely said it was ok but to reverse so that Im not blocking the drive through. I said thank you, walked out towards my truck to reverse it and get it out of the way. While walking there my husband calls to confirm my location. As im trying to tell him my location and walk towards the truck there is a car trying to make a left turn into the GAK parking lot. I get into my truck to reverse it out of the way and I guess I wasn't moving fast enough for him so he turns left and now the front of his car is directly to my driver's side door. If I opened my door I would've hit his front hood. Honking his horn at me and I turn to look at him and he utters out the word "bitch" Well I flip him off and reverse. This man pulls into the parking lot, I get out of my truck and continue to explain to my husband where I was in Belmont not paying him any attention. The man comes up to me on the street and says "listen here you little bitch if you ever put your middle finger up at me again......." Of course Im not going to let ANYONE threaten me. While going back and forth with him I learned he was the owner of GAK. He started saying "you people and your Obama care...." WOWWWWWWWWWWWW! What a racist bigot?! The audacity of this man. He's in the business of servicing vehicles yet he had no type of empathy for what just happened to me. All he thought about was that I was blocking his parking lot and for me to hurry up and MOVE!! German Auto Kraft has been working on my 2014 Audi S5 since the very first time I experienced issues. Last year I experienced a battery issue which I haven't experienced again. Most recently I took it in for a 65k mile service, and they found I needed to replace the radiator and lower control arms. I absolutely love how the car drives now. I take extreme care of my car and I am scared at times to take it places where I don't know how it will be treated, as I want it done at the level of care that I would do it myself. First of all they did not follow CA posted rules of providing a written quote of the repairs in writing or send by email. They were requested to speak with my trusted mechanic, which they did not before doing the work. That did not and said the job was already in progress. They used Mercedes parts at list price and a labor cost without specifying the hourly labor rate or documenting the time spent. The time to put in a battery and alternator was excessive and when questioned said "labor costs vary". I can't say they did a good or bad job just yet, other then to say they do not operate properly under state law and were not transparent as to how their charges are calculated. If you want to be ripped off, they are the place to go. read more

We now have Mini Cooper that we bring in for regular maintenance. They have always been very thorough and have communication. I've now visiting this repair shop three times. My first time there I was just getting an inspection/oil change maintenance for my 2005 VW Beetle. I was really happy with my experience so I suggested my fiance bring in his Mini Coop. He was having a lot of issues and after visiting the Mini dealership they wanted $1000+ for all the repairs. We brought it here for a second opinion. Jeannine was amazing. She not only gave the diagnosis but also took the time to research his warranty. Turns out EVERYTHING was covered by the warranty. She called Mini and gave us a detailed write up of who she spoke to and what we should be paying. We were totally blown away that she would go through all this trouble considering she did not even charge us. Sure enough we took it back to Mini and everything worked out. I got an email from German Auto Kraft saying it was time for another oil change so I brought it again last month. Jeannine asked me to bring any previous maintenance receipts so she could be sure that everything was up to date. Turns out my previous mechanic was quite lazy. I ended up needed $3000+ in repairs. When I went in to pick up my car she showed me all the parts that were replaced. There was a VERY OLD and filthy air filter, as well as a rats nest and other not well maintained pieces. Because there was so much work to be done she did discount the labour for me, which was a nice surprise. All in all this place is as good as it gets. Honest, hard working people. Let me give them some credit. They've developed new and creative ways to generate revenue. Standard practice for auto repair is to charge you to diagnose your issue, but refund or credit the charge if you have the repair done at their shop. Not German Auto Kraft. They charge you for the diagnosis AND the repair. I'm surprised we weren't charged for printing the receipt , talking to the cashier, or parking while on the ramps at the shop. CROOKS!! My seat was stuck in the recline position, so I took it to them because I figured they would cost less than the dealer and I told them to change the oil while they were at it. They told me the frame was broken and needed to be replaced and quoted me $700 for it. No thank you! I could buy a new pair of seats for not much more. Then the bill came and $405. WTF!!!??!! How does an oil change and an estimate cost that much? I tried arguing. I tried compromising. I was pissed but I paid it because I just wanted my car back. Two days later I took it to the dealership to check the seat because I didn't trust this German Auto Kraft place at all. 20 mins later my seat was fixed and it cost me eighty bucks. Turns out the frame wasn't broken after all. If I went to the dealership in the first place it would have cost me less than $200 for the seat to be fixed and the oil change. Even without an appointment they have made time to help me when I think I have an emergency, and when I do have an appointment are kind enough to take me to work. I brought in my 300CD about a week ago, as I was having some issues on the road. I don't live in Belmont, but I was on 101 when I checked my blackberry for local shops. I for one am very skeptical about people trying to rip me off, to the point that I think everyone is. I certainly didn't feel like this was the case. I was shocked when not only was my repair taken care of in only two days but they even detailed my car afterwords! I've never experienced this type of service in similar types of import repair shops, especially Mercedes. Small shops are always pricey, thats because they're small shops. I support small businesses, which is why I chose a non-corporate repair shop nor a dealership. I would recommend this shop to anyone. But don't expect to pay dirt prices. There would be no "family owned" or "locally owned" businesses if everything were to cost nothing, like so many people these days expect. read more

My husband has been a customer for over a year with his Audi and I finally brought my VW in yesterday for its 40k mile service. It was a completely pleasant and stress-free experience. I called in Saturday for an estimate and the lady on the phone was helpful. Called me back ASAP with an accurate estimate based on my car and was able to book me for Monday morning. The facility was clean and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They completed the service quickly and efficiently - including updating the computer so the annoying "service now" light went off. The alternator going south was like a lobster in hot water... pretty obvious something went wrong. The water pump ready to go would be the cold water analogy, one of those gradual changes that I'd just acclimated to. Had you not brought it to my attention I could be left stranded on the side of the road somewhere. With my kid. In the rain. At night. With a dead cell phone. Needing a bathroom. You get the idea. The timing of a big repair right before my kid's birthday and Christmas: not so awesome. Possible alternative: far worse. Happy holidays to my favorite shop. I first found this place back in the early 1990's. I had an Audi when I moved close to them, which they worked on until it got totalled, and then they kept the aged grouchy Audi 5000 on the road long after its expiration date. That car had more wrong with it than any car should - a previous owner had used superglue to repair the ATF reservoir. They have always been honest with me - and when I told them I'd been approved for a new car loan, they told me to go for it, even though the car would not be one they would work on, and they could have made a small fortune in keeping the Audi on the road. As a result, since 1997 I have not used them - so I was *really* glad when I saw that they work on Smart cars. I still have to use the dealer (which is a pain given how far away they are) for annual service - but for all the rest of the work I need, you can be sure I will be on their doorstep!
